You may know Brie Larson from Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, from her Oscar-winning performance in Room, or you might know her from last Summer's Kong: Skull Island. If you're a comic book movie fan, however, you will soon know her as the one and only CAPTAIN MARVEL in Marvel Studios' 2019 sci-fi action flick.
But Larson herself didn't always see herself as the leading lady.
The actress spoke with Porter Magazine to discuss her time in Hollywood, noting that she "didn't feel confident" or "pretty enough" to have a starring role. After her last string of movies, however, it is difficult to consider her as just a supporting actress. And thus, she found CAPTAIN MARVEL to be a bit of a tough decision. Larson says of the chance to play Carol Danvers and her alter ego:
I spent months thinking about whether or not I was going to do the film, and I realize that it was a chance to tell a story on the largest scale possible. [...] I know it's going to make me lose some of the things I love most about my life, but I think it's worth it.
Clearly, Larson has tossed her trepidation to the wayside and embraced the changes that such a demanding franchise will bring to her career and personal life. Let's hope she's ready for massive stardom as well!
CAPTAIN MARVEL is scheduled for a March 6, 2019 release date and will be directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck.
