Who doesn't like the classic Batman show? Well okay, quite a lot of you have probably never seen it but let me assure you it's frackin hilarious. Now DC plan to release a new comic series based on the exploits of the campiest of camp Batmen (Adam West) and his sidekick Robin The Boy Wonder (Burt Ward).

That's pretty much all we know, but as the above pic courtesy of Bleeding Cool reveals, we can expect it sometime this Summer. Cause for a celebratory dance of the Batusi!

There's too many bat titles, I rather see Martian man hunter, after reading the backup from JLA #2, I'm on board with him getting a solo title

AND hopefully shazam gets one too after his backup ends in JL

@levi, that show brought batman to the masses, without that show batman would never be the icon he is today.

Make sense seeing as his other titles aren't age appropriate for younger readers plus the old show was funny as hell.

At the rate they're going we'll have 52 Batman books by the end of next year. DC, you do have other properties... There are so many characters that are not getting the love right now.

@levi, Burton's batman wouldn't have been made without this bats, how did it make him look stupid? It was a different time, tv shows were completely different in what was liked and accepted than compared to now. The show wasn't considered campy back than, the show was prime time.

@LEVITIKUZ I believe the classic show has its place. I was a child of the 80's and grew up watching reruns of this. It was a kid/family friendly introduction to the Gotham cast that made me hungry for reading the comics by the time the early 90's rolled around. Being a parent of a young child now, I appreciate the value in having more innocent iterations of characters so they can grow into enjoying Moore / Brubaker/ Loeb/ Morrison/ Miller/ Nolan / Burton when they are older.

I currently read Superman Family Adventures (Tiny Titans) with my daughter and would consider something like this to carry them through elementary & middle school.

Hell, I'm so old I almost remember it the first time around. It had its place at one time. But that time ain't now in or out of a comic book.

The way I see it is if I were a parent and my child wanted to read/watch Batman, this comic series and the 60s show (as well as Batman: The Brave and the Bold) would be a good place to start. Then as they get older, introduce them to the more serious Batman stuff (i.e. Batman in the 70s/80s, Batman: TAS and The Batman). Then drag them into the depths with Batman's greatest stories/TPBs/graphic novels, the Burton films and the Dark Knight trilogy (I consider any parent who didn't grow up in the 60s and lets their kids watch the Schumacher Batman films a bad parent;-D).

Whoever thinks this hurt Batman's image is just dumb. If anything, this made Batman more popular. And all true fans of Batman love this show and the movie. I will definitely buy at least a few issues of this.

If it weren't for that show a lot of people would have never even gotten into comic books. Batman was campy and silly at that time and it all exploded on the small screen in a way that the comics just couldn't do. Plus, the reaction from DC to make him grittier was because of the show. So, he may not have been the Dark Knight we know if it hadn't been for the series.

I will definitely be picking this up!!! Very excited. Yes, it's terribly campy, but EVER SINGLE VERSION of Batman has been compared to this, so to say that it did nothing and that it was "stupid" is wrong. Ultimately, this show was very "comics accurate" for the time that it was in. From the 40's to the mid-70's, this is what Batman was like. Deal with it.

There are way too many Bat books out already, why do we need another?

Firstly there are too many Bat books, and thats coming from a pretty hardcore Bat-fan... Secondly, why this book? Of all the Bat books to chose from why this? It no longer has any place in this day and age...

Tom Lyle is the artist for this, he's working on it right now actually. I know this because I know Tom.

This is rather unnecessary.
Reruns of The Brave and the Bold and the old '60s show would surely fill any need here. I can't see this working as a comic-book.

" The show did a good job of representing the comics as they existed in the 60's. Batman in the 60's was some silly shit. Both on tv and in the books. The show is great for a laugh."

Well, not exactly. By the time the show actually aired, Batman had begun to leave the over the top camp the dominated the comic in the previous decade behind. That's not to say the show didn't present the kind of Batman that was in the comics (it wasn't an overnight overhaul). It was just a few years too late on the camp.

However, if not for the show, we might not have gotten Barbara Gordon's version of Batgirl, so that alone justifies it's existence.

I'm pretty sure this will be part of Beyond the New 52 not one of the New 52 titles so people saying why this instead of Martian Manhunter, Shazam or Cyborg, all of those books are still possible.

In this comic age of trying to out "Dark" the next book...

"Lighten-up, Francis"

Its a good time for a book that is fun and worth a laugh.

BTW, after 40+ years, the copyright issues with the series have been settled and its finally getting a DVD release. This is probably a cross promotion.

Eddie Murphy as Robin? What's with WB trying to make Robin black? Remember in Batman Returns when Marlon Wayans was supposed to play him? I'm not racist or anything, it's just.... why change Robin's race? It doesn't really make much sense.
