Today DC Comics officially announced, via The Associated Press, their new weekly series The New 52: Futures End. This is the same story that we once referred to as "Five Years Later". It will kick off late in May and not September, as previously rumored. Another exciting note is that a prelude zero issue will be released on Free Comic Book Day (May 3, 2014).

The series will be written by Jeff Lemire, Brian Azzarello, Keith Giffen, and Dan Jurgens. Ethan Van Sciver is drawing the special zero issue as well as the weekly series. Jesus Merino, Aaron Lopresti, and Dan Jurgens will be the other artists when it goes weekly.

"Really, what we're trying to do with this book is to explore the nature of what a hero is and we're doing that, obviously by playing with the future of the New 52 timeline," said Jeff Lemire. "Past present and future all colliding in this story line."

The story will feature central characters for each time it focuses on. Frankenstein in the past, Firestorm in the present, and Batman Beyond in the future. Is this Terry McGinnis? We'll have to wait and see. Check out the cover art for the zero issue below. It looks like there will be some kind of OMAC/ Brother Eye threat.

This should be interesting. I wonder what heroes and villains DC will bring back for this story arc.

were they try to emulate AoU/Ultron?

jimoakley666: Maybe. I guess we'll find out this May. They could be the heroes or facsimiles created by Brother Eye. The designs for the robots are interesting. It's like a cybernetic version of Rotworld.
