How DC's Gay GREEN LANTERN Caused Warner Bros. Some Serious Confusion...

Writer James Robinson was praised for his decision to make "The New 52" version of Alan Scott gay, but the move reportedly left Warner Bros confused (resulting in Geoff Johns having to explain to them that it wouldn't mean Ryan Reynold's Hal Jordan would be gay too). Read on for details!

While it may have been a controversial decision in the eyes of some fans, Earth-2 writer James Robinson was praised by most (including GLADD) for taking the character of Alan Scott in a bold new direction for his debut in "The New 52". However, while comic book fans are well versed in alernate realities and whatnot, Warner Bros. (the studio that develops DC's comic book movies) were a little confused when they learnt of the decision to make Green Lantern gay.

The sexual orientation of Alan Scott didn’t faze DC publisher Dan DiDio, who supported Robinson’s decision. Warner Brothers, however, was confused: did this mean that star Ryan Reynolds, who played Hal Jordan in the 2011 film adaptation of "Green Lantern," would be gay? "Geoff (Johns) had to go in and explain that there were lots of Green Lanterns, and this was just one of them," Robinson said.

If Warner Bros. were under the impression that there's only one Green Lantern, that probably doesn't bode well for those of you hoping to see one of the other Earthbound members of the Corps brought to the big screen! Regardless, they were clearly concerned or confused over the fact that this alteration in the comic books would potentially lead to the sexuality of Ryan Reynolds' version of Hal Jordan having to be changed for future big screen appearances. I don't ever want to know what somebody prefers in their privacy.

Unnecesary change. If you assume somebody is hetero or homo that's your business.

It should never spill into other people's lives.

I wonder if this has anything to do with why WB pulled the plug on the animated show and why the comic suddenly has the best talent taken off the books all at the same time.

Maybe this is a result of some homophia within the WB ranks...and not the sugar coated story they told us

Warner Bros is such a bunch of suits and idiots. They are making DC movies yet they didn't know there were multiple Green Lantern's?

Who the hell are they hiring to develop these movies!?

And THAT is why DC Entertainment was created versus just letting DC properties get farmed out to various producers at WB who also have Generic Action/Comedy/Romance Movie #25 on their slate on top of "That Comic Book Movie With That Guy Who Does The Thing..."

Hopefully Green Lantern is the last movie we see WB make "the old way" despite it having the DCE logo slapped on it. I'm sure the executives are very nice people but they don't belong in the director's face or in the editing room.

@Geoffdog

My point. I've never cared about the superhero's intimate affairs because most of the time its poorly written, doesn't add anything interesting or relevant to the plot, and/or is simply filler.

The batman books aside because most love interest are allies or villains and that makes it relevant because there are no supernatural factors that allow space for a normal relationship(boring melodrama) so every decision weighs heavier on the reader because it falls within the range of obstacles one could feasibly relate to.

It's not entirely WB's fault....those at DC who decided to make Allan Scott gay in the 1st place bear the responsibility for this [frick] up. The suits at WB's studied Business 101 not comics 101.

@Facade- How is it the fault of the people at DC comics? WB should KNOW their own property. If they don't know their own property then why the [frick] do they even own it in the first place?

WB should have done some homework before looking like complete fools

so apparently they don't read comics or even see their own movies, because its all really in there. They just seem...lost! Look at whether or not Marvel studios would have made the same mistake and then you will see why DC is struggling. DC STUDIOS MUST RISE :P

Yo @FIRG- We get it, you love WB. Those of us who had to suffer Green Lantern, Stalkerman Returns, The Spirit and 10 years of 90210 Superman prefer DC find another studio.

Yeah, I get it- DC will always be owned by WB. I'm saying it's my PERSONAL DREAM DC can liberate itself and either make its own studio the way Marvel did or find a better studio.

Don't need reality checks. Just saying what i WISH as a fan, DC could do. Obviously they are too [frick]ing weak. I like to think everyone here in this [frick]ing article know DC is weak. If they were strong they could stand on their own. Obviously they can't.

And all they have is some dickhead studio that don't even know their own [frick]ing property.

DC fans get [frick]ed once again

D.C. : "Ya see this Green Lantern with Hal Jordan just sucks as a character in a movie. The other Green Lantern Allen Scott sucks penis into his mouth."
