Who is more corruptible? Batman or Superman

With Dawn of Justice coming to theaters in 2016, I’ve been thinking about the dynamic between Batman and Superman.

In your opinion, between Superman and Batman,

Who is more corruptible?

Who is more likely to kill?

Joker almost corrupted Batman with just words and I think it'd take Kryptonite or threatening someone he truly loves to make him do the wrong thing.

Superman that is.

True, who do you think is easier controlled or corruptible by the government? In my opinion, Superman is more willing to follow an authority as long as he feels justified
UltimateCookie
UltimateCookie - 7/1/2014, 4:58 PM
True but Supes usually knows when the government or the authority figures are justified and not corrupt.

Good point, but I feel like it's possible for Superman's view of the world to be different because he isn't human and never has been. I feel like to a certain extent, if he believes that the Government is looking out for the people then he will obey them.

True but I've personally never seen Supes go that route except for Flashpoint.

Superman is willing to kill if it is necessary. Batman has always had his no killing rule.

I would think Superman, because he is so far from it, that a bit that does would push him off the edge, Batman dabbles in it so its easier for him to resist.

Haha, first article, I'll try harder next time.

@sintzu

I agree and I'm all about pre-new 52, but I plan on reading more New 52. I also have to read more Superman comics, I've read more Batman.

I think one of the cool things about Batman vs Superman is that even though Batman doesn't have the powers or the physical strength of Superman, he still has an edge, due to the fact that he will do what is necessary. Obviously, I also like the take on the characters in Miller's The Dark Knight Returns
Klone

Elaborate. In terms of being corrupted, Batman.

I'm still waiting for a writer with some balls that creates an elseworld story where BATMAN SNAPS, goes rouge, kills tons of heroes and villains and instills his own totalitarian regime.

I'm getting damn sick of Superman ALWAYS being the evil [frick]er in elseworld stories. And don't give me the "hur dur it won't be interesting if it's Batman cause of der nooo powurs".

@Klone

I would definitely be open to reading an elseworld story about Batman snapping....

As far as corruption, I'm also talking about which character could be controlled by the government. I think to a certain extent since Superman isn't human, he takes the opinion of the Government into account more, and the Government can have more impact on his actions.

For me, it's hard to picture Batman being controlled by the Government

@DrKin

That question depends on the context although unless Superman is being butchered (eg. TDKR) or being selfless as in joining the government will save thousands of people and a necessary action for the betterment of others, he would not be their lapdog. Somewhat similar situation with Batman although I can easily imagine him working with say Waller based on his unhealthy paranoia or if he was ousted from the League and became more bitter.

@DrKin

If anything Batman taking over would be more interesting given that he's only a man that everyone thought was their ally. If some were to personally stop him I'd wish it to be either Wonder Woman or someone unlikely.

True, it'll be interesting to see what their take on Batman is in Dawn of Justice. I wouldn't mind if they included some aspects of the Dark Knight Returns, but your right, they should make a story that flows with the movies better. I'm definitely going to check out more of the New 52 comics though

@Klone

Good point, I could see Batman working with Waller

I think a lot of people would say Superman because of all the stories in which he goes bad. But I think that the main reason for him going bad in those stories is simply because it makes such a great story.
Superman really is one of the most (if not the most) human of all superheroes, despite the fact that he's Kryptonian. He was raised on a farm by a country couple with very strong morales. He lives among all of us regular people as Clark Kent, and really, he's on of us. He works at the Daily Planet doing news stories and getting to know all kinds of people and what their lives are like. Clark/Superman truly loves humanity, and he understands it.
Batman is a bit separated from humanity. Batman's secret identity is Bruce Wayne. He's not really who he pretends to be as Bruce, he just uses the name as a cover. Batman almost doesn't have a life. He doesn't have much more to keep him sane other than his dedication to protecting others. But Superman on the other hand is well grounded.

@JoshuaDBr

I agree with what your saying about Superman being raised well, maintaining a job, working amongst humans, and respecting humans, but at the same time Superman is more powerful than all of the humans and he always has been, he's always been extremely different but he's been capable of hiding it all his life. He also can play out a double life as Kent.

Batman is human, which is why the dual identity obviously causes psychological problems but Superman is capable of doing the same thing, and I feel that he may be even more convincing

I don't know if you've seen Kill Bill, but I love this scene, when they talk about the mythology.... "Superman didn't become Superman, his alter-ego is Clark Kent.... What Superman wears as Kent is his real costume.... Clark Kent is Superman's critique on the human race, how he views us.... Kent's characteristics are weak, unsure of himself, he's a coward...." Just quoting the movie, but I love this take, and I think it's true to a certain extent, because Superman isn't human.

@DrKinsolving

Hmm... I do find hat quote fascinating. But honestly, I disagree with it. I believe that Clark is Superman's true identity...well half of it. Unlike a lot of heroes who have a true identity and a fake one, I think Superman has two true identities. Clark is who he's been ever since he was a child. Sure he's changed the way he acts a bit since he came to the big city, but he's still the same old Clark. And though he may act silly and even cowardly, he really isn't. He works for the Daily planet and does some of the most controversial work published by the paper. If he was cowardly he wouldn't have a job there. And even though he acts cowardly as Clark, sometimes he really shows his true self, not as Superman, but as Clark. I have a specific spot in the comics that I think you'd like to read. Sadly I'm posting this from my iPad so I can't add a picture. But it's the New 52 Superman book, issue 13, page 10.

Anyway, thanks for showing me that and giving your opinion. It's nice to have a discussion rather than a debate.
