When the story of Wolverine's (a.k.a. James Howlett) early life was finally revealed all the way back in 2001's
Origin miniseries, one of the main mysteries was the identity of 'Dog Logan'. We know that he's the older half-brother of the X-Man - they share the same father who Wolverine killed when his mutant powers manifested - but unlike in the 2009 film,
X-Men Origins: Wolverine, he didn't grow up to become Sabretooth. Scarred from an altercation with his brother, 'Dog' is actually responsible for Wolverine accidentally killing Rose (if you don't know who that is, things start getting a little complicated from this point, so you may want to head on over to
Wikipedia), although none of this has been fully explored despite him regaining his memories after
House of M.
Well, after finding himself transported to the present day in the pages of
Astonishing Spider-Man & Wolverine, 'Dog' has been in hiding and was last seen alive in the Canadian wilderness, obsessed with reading newspaper articles about Wolverine creating his own school. Well, he's finally coming back. Talking at the FanExpo Canada, Jason Aaron confirmed plans to introduce him to
Wolverine And The X-Men later this year.
""I've always had plans for Dog, ever since having him pop up in 'Astonishing Spider-Man And Wolverine. And I'm really excited about the chance to dig into his character and really figure out what makes this guy tick. He's one of those deeply-flawed sorts of characters that I love to write. And while he will be coming back into Logan's life to raise some hell, I want him to seem like much more than just some mustache-twirling bad guy with a grudge against his brother. I think Dog is a pretty tragic figure, so I want him to be a much more complicated villain. But he's also still a Logan. And Wolverine's big brother. So I would expect there to be plenty of asskicking going on."
When he was first introduced, the young 'Dog' resembled Wolverine so much, that many assumed he was in fact the Logan we all know from the comic books. Regardless, there's certainly no love lost between the siblings, so his reason for choosing now to come back into Wolverine's life should result in a lot of VERY interesting story opportunities.
