DEADPOOL 2 May Top The First Movie's Opening Weekend As AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR Closes In On $1.8 Billion

The latest numbers are in for Deadpool 2 and there's some very good news for the Merc with the Mouth as he's managed to dethrone Earth's Mightiest Heroes. Hit the jump for everything we know so far...

After a strong start at the North American box office with a Thursday night haul of $18.6 million, Deadpool 2 went on to score $53.5 million on Friday. That means the sequel has now topped IT's record for having the highest opening day of all-time for an R-Rated movie; that made $50.4 million last year. Now, three-day estimates are pointing to the sequel ending the weekend with $132+ million.

Why is that important? Well, the first instalment of the franchise - which was released a little over two years ago - debuted with $132.4 million and as things currently stand, there's a very good chance the follow-up will end up beating it. That very much depends on how things pan out today, though.

As you might expect, Deadpool 2 has now managed to dethrone Avengers: Infinity War to take the #1 spot at the domestic box office. The Marvel Studios movie is eyeing $28 million - $30 million this weekend and it should pass $1.8 billion worldwide by close of business on Sunday. We're still waiting for the Merc with the Mouth's international numbers to come in so be sure to stay tuned for updates.

With Solo: A Star Wars Story set to be released next week, the sequel will obviously have to act fast.

@CheepTricks - it’s really to make another 100 million more after this weekend past and that’s just domestically.

@CheepTricks - they should rerelease Infinity War right before Avengers 4 comes out to help juice the total Box Office! I mean Avatar did the whole see it again in theaters thing!

$200,000 million more? Very doable. It'll make another $50 million within the week from the US alone. I have seen it 3x already. We should all do a one last time weekend as fans. Would be awesome to start a movement like that.

@SonOfAGif - I would love to, but I've already seen it 8 times - 7 at our local theatre and travelled to another city to view it in IMAX 3D.

Also, 4 of those were on OW, the rest on 2nd and 3rd weekend, respectively.

I think I've contributed quite a lot to the film's success :D

@Pantherpool - Holy hell. How do you find the time and interest? I consider myself an MCU super fan and even I'm debating a 3rd time.

It'll be available on blu-ray by late August, early September.

Lol “look I’ve seen it 10+ times and contributed to the movie let’s start a movement and give them more of our money!” So you basically gave that movie over $100, hope you got some Disney stocks or something cause that seems like a giant waste for no reason seeing a movie 7+ times. I honestly don’t know how some of you guys do it. In a short amount of time for a movie being out, you guys don’t lose interest in seeing the same thing over and over? That’s just me and my max 2x theatre view limit, my interest in a movie in that short of a timespan just gets to me. I’ve seen Black Panther 3 times and the third time I was looking at my watch to see when it was over knowing which scenes are coming next and wanting it to end

PS to reiterate, the 3rd time was a free showing.

That scene - you know which scene I'm talking about if you've seen DP2 - with this song playing was so damn beautiful.

@Pantherpool - I haven't seen it yet, but I love this song and can only imagine how brilliant a Deadpool scene with this playing would be. This comment really got me even more excited to see it lmao.
