DEADPOOL Director Says He's A Fan Of Zack Snyder's Epic Take On Superheroes

While the Merc With the Mouth is taking over the box office, director Tim Miller spoke to Omelet about his transition from visual effects to making his directorial debut with Deadpool and never giving up on his dream. "Never give up, because for me, at age 50, it seemed that my chance [to be a director] would not come over but appeared mainly because I stayed in the game and refused to give up. If you keep trying, things end up lining up," said the first time director. "The biggest challenge is to convince people that you know more than just visual effects If you do not have a resume to suggest that you can work with actors or a live-action team, it is difficult to convince people to give him that opportunity. Luckily, I've worked with many actors in motion capture and dubbing process, and in commercial art directors, so I already had some experience. and having a company [Blur Studio, specializing in effect] was an advantage, because you already manage many people, and direct a movie is basically managing people."

Having a character like Deadpool doing crazy and exagerrated stunts on screen would require some visual effects magic and Miller's background has given him insight on how much CG is enough. "Sometimes, especially working with stunt, rather than try something physically, I feel comfortable to say, 'you know what? I think we can make this decision with a digital stunt '. Or make a whole sequence in CGI, to buy time. Or tell us not to worry about the continuity of the blow and fall, because I will replace it with a digital stunt in the middle of the air. Things like that." The director then went on to talk about finding the perfect balance between action and comedy. "I feel like if I tried to make Deadpool just an action movie, it would not compete with films that are four times our budget, as Avengers, then the action we have is unique, and and sensational considering our budget, but what makes it special is the comedy. And the R censorship [17 years in the US], obviously."

Miller also talked about Deadpool's fourth wall breaking jokes about fellow superhero films and how he's a fan of Zack Snyder's take on Batman v Superman. "We have several jokes about superheroes, but I do not want to make any specific joke with this film," stated Miller. "It would be strange to make a joke with a film that has not premiered yet. And besides, I like what Zack [Snyder] does, like your sense of epic. I think it was this epic bid that led me to read comics before anything else. I'm more of a fan of this heroic side that the comedy itself, although I like the mix that exists in Deadpool."

DEADPOOL is now playing in theatres.

Based upon Marvel Comics’ most unconventional anti-hero, DEADPOOL tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.

I like Zack's epic direction, too. He just needs a better script to work with, for God's sake. Thank christ all mighty we've got Terio, now.

I like Snyder, and most of his movies! Just don't really see any reason to deify the guy. Or any director, for that matter.

@grif - First of all, Doomsday is the most boring character in existence. Second, who [frick]ing cares what he did to Doomsday, it's Doomsday. He's trash. Only reason he should exist is to challenge Supes and either kill him or bring together a group of unlikely allies that will take him down.

Well he made three okay movies with 300, Watchmen and Man of Steel. He also made the worst movie I have ever seen with Sucker Punch. And my favorite of his is probably Dawn of the Dead. So I definitely wouldn't say I love him as a director but I'm still super excited for BvS so I guess I believe he can grow.

Tim Miller is the FUTURE OF CBM directing. This man had a 58 million dollar budget and did wonders with it. He created en epic, funny and amazing cbm with little funds; compared to the heavy hitters like DC and Disney/Marvel. His film is as epic as any other bombastic cbm out there; a different type of epic. This guy is special

@ComicsBornAndBred - He definitively has my admiration. That was some actual magic he made with such a low budget.
