$1 billion at the box office isn't exactly going "into the unknown" for Diseny anymore. The company has already done so five previous times this year alone. But for any other studio, it would still be cause for celebration, and while the sequel to Walt Disney Animation Studios' 2013 hit hasn't yet hit the mark, it's almost certainly guaranteed to do so after another stellar weekend the the box office.

Frozen 2 pulled in another $34.7 million in North America, fending off the only newcomer in STX's Playmobil, an animated movie inspired by the European children's toy which stands to become one of the worst nationwide openings of all time with just $811,000. Frozen 2's third weekend represents a 60% decline from its massive Thanksgiving haul, but has helped push the film's domestic total to $337 million.

Overall, it was a pretty quiet weekend at the domestic box office with Rian Johnson's mystery drama Knives Out coming in at No. 2 with $14.1M in its second weekend. Ford v Ferrari rounded out the top three with a 6.537M domestic haul.

Overseas, Frozen 2 brought in $90 million this weekend and now sits at $920 million globally. It looks poised to become Disney's sixth film to crack the $1 billion milestone in 2019 alone, joining Avengers: Endgame ($2.798B), The Lion King ($1.656B), Captain Marvel ($1.130B), Toy Story 4 ($1.074B) and Aladdin ($1.051B).

As previously reported, Frozen 2's global haul has helped push Disney to a record-shattering $10 billion-plus at the global box office for 2019.
