Just weeks after news broke that Scott Derrickson would be helming Doctor Strange, news had followed that Prometheus screenwriter Jon Spaihts would be tackling the script. While Derrickson has writing credits on all but one of his horror/supernatural movies, and then some, Movie Pilot asked the filmmaker during an interview late last month if he would be taking on more directing-only gigs starting with Marvel's Socerer Supreme adaptation. "Not necessarily," he answered. "Obviously it’s been announced there’s a writer on Doctor Strange but in that situation it’s maybe my favorite screenwriter in town. I’d read four of his scripts before ever meeting him. I think that the opportunity to work with great talent and people who can supersede my abilities in various areas is extremely exciting to me. Like, Jon Spaihts is a genius." It's presumed that Derrickson will only be directing Doctor Strange, but it's likely that he'll also be contributing to the movie's screenplay; especially considering what he says of working with Spaihts above.

While we still don't know who Marvel Studios is seriously considering to play Dr. Stephen Strange on the big-screen, Latino Review scooper El Mayimbe has hinted on Twitter that Kevin Feige and Co. have found their leading man, by simply tweeting: "Interesting choice for Dr. Strange :)". In terms of timing, Marvel having someone locked in for the role seems plausible with San Diego Comic-Con just two weeks away, and that being when and where an actor and release date will likely be announced, among other things. Coincidentally, it was confirmed today that one of the actors on Marvel's Strange wishlist, Benedict Cumberbatch, will be attending the annual convention this year for the very first time. Apparently, the English thespian's presence will only be to promote his voice role in DreamWorks' Penguins of Madagascar, and that's two days prior to Marvel Studios/ Disney's big Hall H presentation. Anyhow, others on the alleged wishlist include recent Oscar-winner Jared Leto and Tom Hardy, but the latter actor is "not expected to be available.
