Dragonball Film Series Ideas

Dragonball Film Series Ideas

So ever since I heard about the Dragonball movie (way back in 2002) I always wondered how the films would be made. Unfortunately, my hopes were obliterated as Evolution raped my childhood with a hammer. It was a disgusting movie.

Anyway, back to my original topic. I always thought that if a series of films were to be made, they would be a little like Star Wars and Lord of the Rings: A series tell one story over the course of many films. For Dragonball, the story is really long. I feel that about 7 films, each being about 2-3 hours long, would be good for a live action Dragonball Z series. This would not include filler sagas ( so no Garlic Jr. or filler episodes). The names of the films could be as follows:

Dragon Ball : The Invasion (Saiyan Saga)
Dragon Ball: The Final Hope (Namek Saga)
Dragon Ball: The Legend Revealed (Frieza Saga)
Dragon Ball: A New Threat (Future Trunks- Android Saga)
Dragon Ball: The Games Begin (Cell)
Dragon Ball: An Evil Hatches (Buu+Babbdi Saga)
Dragon Ball: The Ending struggle (Fusion+Kid Buu)

I think that fight scenes similar to the Matrix and Equilibrium(among some other great martial films )would be a perfect demonstration of how the fights would be. Also, the filming process would be like that of Lord of the Rings ( all of them filmed at the same time, so you have 7 years of films ). Most of the effects would be real (e.g. Not much CGI). Obviously, ki-blast would be CGI, but villains ( say Frieza and Cell) would be made from a mixture of latex, puppetry, and CGI.

As for casting, this film would more than likely be made in the future and,as such, will have actors that are not yet famous yet. However, feal free to post your picks. Goku should be around 33 thourgh 40 ( remember, he has to be old enough to have a 10 year old son ). Same goes for Vegeta, only a little bit older.

So, what do you guys think? What would you like to see in a Dragon Ball film? (Assuming that you have a crew, cast, and director that all LOVE the series and willing to put real effort into making it a good film overall).

Great ideas, DB and DBZ is incredibley hard to adapt to live action film, but I think if it's done in a certain way it could be done. Something similar to Kung Fu Hustle. Y'know, very tounge in cheeck but with awesome action scenes.

@LEEE- Nah it was DBE that was shit, not DBZ. The cartoon is excellent.

starting with the saiyan saga???

already lost me

a dragonball film should be a retelling of dragonball - a great fantasy action adventure following a young goku going after the dragonballs accompanied by bulma and krillin

i would make the protagonist piccolo jr. who is trying to avenge his fathers death and resurrect him

picollo jr kills gohan whilst goku is out in the forrest hunting for dinner (fishing with his tail)

goku returns to hear his grandpas dying wihs - that he goes after picollo and stops him.....

its a twist but incorporates alot of the dragonball saga aswell as setting up the saiyan saga as a sequel

as for actors im not sure, but a young cmpetant actor for goku (got to have that wide eyed innocence though)

would have a very old school feel to the world in terms of mechanical creatures etc (think the heenson company)

and the hair would be cgi added in post - its the only way!!!

@spideydude- Um no. You lost me as soon as you said someone other than Goku should kill Grandpa Gohan. The whole point of that is that he doesn't understand his own power, and his oblivious that he killed Gohan. It should be Goku.

yeah i like that in the original but i couldnt figure out a better way to make the goku picollo rivalry more personal

@spideydude- But who says it needs to be personal? I mean look at TDK, the Joker and Batman started thier animosity way before the Joker decided to make it personal. And in the comics, the Joker has nothing to do with Batman's alter ego, yet they easily have the most intense hero/villain relationship in the history of comics.

Where as if you make every villain personal you get the Spider-Man trilogy. Where every villain was somehow related to Parker's past. It became annoying.

I understand why you would want something like that, but in terms of plot it doesn't work.

it works in terms of plot - i wanted to give picollo a more personal tie rather than goku - i suppose he could just as easily have picollo attack roshis place when goku is there training with krillin

Okay since Goku as 18 in The Wedding Saga of Dragon Ball(when he likely nailed Chichi and impregnated) her.

DBZ is five years later and Gohan specifically said he was around 5 and a half on the first episode. So Goku is likely be 23 around the time of the Saiyan Saga NOT in his 30s or 40s

@Sweetre15 He may be in his 20s at the begining of the Saiyan Saga, but the films would be filmed around the same time. So if you did get a 20 some year old, he would not look old enough to have a teenage son. Besides, you can make a 30 some year old look younger if you try.

@spideydude To be honest, I never got into Dragonball. And besides, I doubt I can take a 10 year old kid serioslly on film as the main chracter. It is different for Gohan, as Goku is the primarilly chracter.
