Editorial: Should The Batman Reboot Explore Gay Themes

I am The Comic Critic and I'm here to talk about Batman and a special bond

Hello and I'm The Comic Critic,

It's been a while since I have done a DC based editorial so let's get started shall we. Start up your engine boys cause Batman is going to be coming in hot on this topic and he wants a piece of you tonight, oh yes may things will be rising other than the moon if you know what I mean. Homosexual themes are becoming more and more told in this day and age of comics. It may be a controversial subject but it is becoming less. Can we blame some of the older generations coming out the closet or possibly engaging the new generations to live the motto "Kids just wanna have fun". With Batman I think most of you know his infamous counterpart Robin share something more than care for each other but it's a strong male bond they hold together. How strong does this bond reach, or how strong does it hold around a story. Now I am not saying there is anything wrong with the word "Gay" I think it's equal to joining a new Religion or practicing in the arts of Witchcraft which was popularized after the success of Harry Potter. So my point saying...

Why aren't gay themes explored in more comic book films not just comics alone. We know Nolan never brought any of this up in his films but it should have been too add a surreal sense of realism. Like a dash of spice it could be used to touch up the quality for a very interesting story. Maybe for the Batman reboot to make a major departure to separate from the Nolan films themself, do something radical. This is one of the many things they could do. Maybe Nolan tried to add a hint of that bond between Bruce and Alfred but it would not have worked out so well. For the Batman reboot, "Make Bruce Wayne Gay". Make a few other characters in the story too. Or even the villian possibly in the story. It could be that both Batman is in love with the deadly male villian but hates him for his destructive cause and the villian feels about the same except he hates him for being a hero. Soon we get a strong tense story between where Bruce Wayne meets him out the costume and sleeps with the male villian not knowing who he is. Maybe if they incorporate the Hush storyline into this film with a few major changes it would be a key. Possibly if Robin is going to be introduced in the story make Robin a girl and it would develop a tense awkward situation between Bruce keeping this young female Robin around him. There is alot of possibilities where this all can go in the end. Include ideas such as this Nolan has not done and it would make for a fresh original tale we have not seen yet not an exact copy of what was before.

Another idea would be for the Batman reboot, do not use a villian in the story but instead make it about Bruce Wayne struggling to control his own inner problems. Make a deep story that connects to Bruce past without a use of a strong villian. Maybe his father did something to him behind closed curtains, something so dark he has kept as a secret for his whole entire life. It's time to incorporate more original ideas for comic book films and not just straight out adaptions we have seen before and that we all can predict what the outcome at the end would be. A game of life and death slowly tearing apart our hero into a reckless monster or an evil being that can not escape his own self no matter how hard he tries.

Well this is just my idea I have, I hope the reboot does a fresh take along these lines and it would make for an interesting story indeed.

If you have any suggestions or comments post them below and I will read and try to respond to them.

Wow man. Really wow. Really? You want Bruce's father to molest him? I am so glad you don't make movies, because these articles are terrible. I give you credit, from a grammatical standpoint they are great. From a substance standpoint they are terrible.

You want Tony Stark to be a drug addict and Bruce Wayne to be a molested child. Perhaps writing about comic book characters isn't your thing.

Just watch Batman Forever and Batman & Robin to explore all the gayness you need!!!

Not sure that one of the ways you want to explore gay themes in Batman is by having his father abuse him. Not exactly a positive gay message.

Dude, you're other articles were completely ridiculous, but this is the worst yet.

Like someone else said, I can't tell if you're doing it on purpose, or if you really are this stupid. But just stop.

GTFO dude. After your good article you post that kind of crap in here. It's obvious that you are homo because you would think of watching such a movie.
I'll try my best not to read your articles anymore.

Yes this article is terrible from a substance standpoint. However, it shouldn't matter if the author is gay. Big [frick]ing deal. It's one thing to hate the article (because there is A LOT to hate here), but don't attack someones sexual preference. It's not cool man.

Don't apologize man! As a writer you will have some hits and misses. This is just a miss. Big deal. You live and learn.

I will say this. child molestation is not a good premise for a Batman film.

so it has to be "gay"?? it can't just be a father-son type of relationship? i mean that's how i always saw it. but i guess people just choose what they want to see.

DC just gave us the best way to use Robin in a movie and not have bruce look like a creep. The Court of the Owls. Bruce takes in Robin to stop him from becoming a part of the court. boom. done.

and to answer the title to the article. no. oh god no it shouldn't a thousand times! unless you want to eliminate 99% of your audience.

@OdinsBeard so that 99% happen to be comic book fans? Because Batman was gay in the comics.

CPBuff@ i guess i don't understand your response.. if the new batman movie were to feature a gay batman you would eliminate 99% of the audience that saw TDK.

nice picture.. can we post one of the thousands that show batman with an actual woman? the only people that say batman are gay are people who are a little gay themselves. which is ok. im just sayin..

i always just saw the batman/robin dynamic to be a father/son type of relationship. not a Jerry Sandusky/victim #1 type of relationship.

Also, Bruce became Batman because his parents were murdered. If his father molested him, he would likely hate him. Therefore, we have no Batman.
