Welcome to the second part of two parts of my re-imagining of the DC Cinematic Universe. In my last article I wrote up my idea for the first 10 movies in the DC Cinematic Universe, which can be seen by clicking here: DC Cinematic Universe Re-Imagined Part 1
A quick summary of that follows:
1. Superman (2013) dir. Frank Darabont
2. Wonder Woman (2014) dir. Patty Jenkins
3. The Flash (2014) dir. Phil Lord and Chris Miller
4. Justice League (2015) dir. David Yates
5. Batman: Court of Owls (2015) dir. Matt Reeves
6. Green Lantern: Sinestro Corps War (2016) dir. Alex Garland
7. Aquaman (2016) dir. Guillermo Del Toro
8. Superman: Man of Tomorrow (2017) dir. J.J. Abrams
9. Justice League: Tower of Babel (2017) dir. Sam Mendes
10. Batman: Under the Hood (2018) dir. Matt Reeves
Some actors, storylines, and directors are just like the actual DCEU, but most are changed for what I believe (and you may not agree) would be for the better. Without further ado, here is my second and last part of my re-imagined DC Universe.
11. Green Lantern: War of Light (2018)
director: Joseph Kosinski (TRON: Legacy, Oblivion, Only the Brave)
screenwriter: Michael Arndt (Oblivion, Toy Story 3)
story: Alex Garland (Ex Machina, Sunshine) and Geoff Johns (Green Lantern: Rebirth)
“Sinestro and his corps was only the beginning. As the Guardians’ prophecy of a war of light starts to become reality, the Green Lantern Corps must attempt to keep the peace, if they can stay alive long enough.”
12. Wonder Woman: Heir to the Gods (2019)
director: Patty Jenkins (
Monster)
screenwriter: Christopher Hampton (
Atonement,
A Dangerous Method)
story: Patty Jenkins
“As the god of light Apollo attempts to usurp the throne of Olympus from his father Zeus, a young mortal woman named Zola, pregnant with Zeus’s child, is being hunted by the god queen Hera. Wonder Woman is Zola’s and Olympus’s only hope.”
13. DC: Throne of Atlantis (2019)
director: Guillermo Del Toro (
Hellboy,
The Shape of Water)
writer: Guillermo Del Toro
“Soon after Aquaman is overthrown as king of Atlantis by his brother Orm, a war between the surface world and the Atlanteans erupts. As the Justice League responds to the threat, Aquaman is caught between his team and his family.”
*note: Much like Captain America: Civil War was partially a Captain America movie and partially an Avengers movie, Throne of Atlantis would partially be an Aquaman movie and partially be a Justice League movie.
14. Suicide Squad (2020)
director: S. Craig Zahler (
Brawl in Cell Block 99,
Bone Tomahawk)
writer: Tony Gilroy (
The Bourne Ultimatum,
State of Play) and S. Craig Zahler
“A ruthless U.S. intelligence officer decides to assemble a team of incarcerated superpowered criminals for a black-ops mission too dirty for superheroes, and too clandestine to be traced back to the U.S government. These inmates must decide whether to accept her devious missions in the name of democracy, or rot in jail. The catch is, most operatives don’t make it back alive.
“Their mission: travel to the middle eastern nation of Kahndaq and assassinate the recently empowered dictator Black Adam. But this dictator is rumored to have some metahuman abilities of his own.”
15. The Flash: Rogue (2020)
director: Drew Goddard (
The Cabin in the Woods)
writer: Drew Goddard (
The Cabin in the Woods,
The Martian)
“A group known as the Rogues has set up a jailbreak from one of the most dangerous meta-human prisons. It’s up to the Flash to prevent any more from escaping, while catching the super-powered convicts that already escaped and are causing havoc across Central City. This might be too much for just one Flash to handle – it’s a good thing he has help this time.”
16. Batman: Hush (2021)
director: Matt Reeves (
Let Me In,
War for the Planet of the Apes)
screenwriter: Christopher Hampton (
Atonement,
A Dangerous Method)
story: Matt Reeves
“Batman sets out to discover the identity of a mysterious mastermind using the Joker, Harley Quinn, Killer Croc, and the Dark Knight's other enemies - and allies - as pawns in a plan to wreak havoc. But secrets from his past flood into the present, and the clues to Hush’s identity leave Batman with no one to trust.”
*note: To ensure the story operates as a mystery for both general audiences and comic fans, Hush’s identity will not be Thomas Elliot. His identity would either be a new character created for the film, or a recurring character.
17. The Fall of Superman (2021)
director: J.A. Bayona (
A Monster Calls,
The Impossible)
writers: Jonathan Nolan (
The Dark Knight,
Westworld) and Geoff Johns
“Lex Luthor is experimenting with cloning his very own Superman. His first attempt came out distorted and bizarre, and was quickly defeated by Superman. Then, soon after Clark Kent proposes to Lois Lane, an intergalactic weapon known as Doomsday is unleashed upon Earth. With most of the Justice League members off-world, and the few remaining already defeated by the monster, Superman is Earth’s last chance at survival. He would give everything, even his life, to defeat this threat. Meanwhile, Lex Luthor’s latest cloning attempt shows much more promise, even if it has yet to reach maturity.”
*note: Bizarro is the brief opening villain ala Batroc in Winter Soldier, Doomsday is the main villain, Superman will die defending Earth (and you know J.A. Bayona would bring all the feels), and Superboy is revealed at the end or in post-credits.
18. DC: Blackest Night (2022)
director: Alex Garland (
Ex Machina)
writer: Alex Garland (
Ex Machina,
28 Days Later,
Sunshine)
“As the War of Light continues in the cosmos, the Guardian’s prophecy of the Blackest Night - the end of all life in the universe - begins. An army of undead Black Lanterns descends across the universe. The various lanterns across the color spectrum must put aside their differences and unite with the Justice League to end the threat before it destroys all of existence.”
*note: Much like Captain America: Civil War was partially a Captain America movie and partially an Avengers movie, Blackest Night would partially be a Green Lantern movie and partially be a Justice League movie.
*note 2: This movie would also be like the Avengers: Infinity War of the DC Universe. A giant threat that operates as a semi-finale to a universe. There will be casualties, and the characters that started this universe would have less of a presence in future films.
19. Titans (2023)
director: Marc Webb (
500 Days of Summer,
The Amazing Spider-Man)
screenwriters: Scott Neustadter & Michael H. Weber (
The Spectacular Now,
The Fault In Our Stars,
The New Mutants)
story: Scott Neustadter & Michael H. Weber
“Nightwing, Superboy, Impulse and Aqualad free Starfire, Raven, Cyborg, and Beast Boy from Cadmus, a sinister genetic engineering base in the Alaskan wilderness. Fleeing across the artic cold, they are hunted by Deathstroke, a dangerous mercenary hired by Cadmus to bring the test subjects back.”
*note: The first movie after the universe's semi-finale Blackest Night. This movie would act as a sort of 'next chapter' of the universe, introducing the next generation of heroes.
And that concludes my DC Universe Re-Imagined. The universe would continue on after Teen Titans, but it's not something I plan on further developing. Future movies could include: Wonder Woman 3, Flash 3, Teen Titans 2 + 3, Shazam, Swamp Thing, Gotham City Sirens, etc. Furthermore, I imagine after another decade or so, the actual universe would finish with the movies Kingdom Come and Batman Beyond.
Do you agree with any of my choices? Do you hate all of them? Let me know what you think and if you would do it differently below.
Thanks for reading!
