I know we're years off from a Justice League movie, but one can dream. Plus, if an adaptation of The Avengers is possible, then an adaptation of the Justice League is. Anyway, here's a brief plot outline of each part of the trilogy:
Film 1 - Justice League: Brainiac, the mad Coluan android, has come to Earth to absorb all of its history, culture, and knowledge, and then destroy the planet once he's done. Sven of Earth's greatest heroes must unite to stop the threat of Brainiac and save Earth.
Film 2 - Justice League: Injustice For All: After building their new Watchtower headquarters on the Moon, the Justice League (now with new members) face off against the Secret Society of Supervillains. Led by the mysterious Libra, the Society consists of past foes that each member of the League has faced off against. Now united, they have one goal in common - destroy the Justice League.
Film 3 - Justice League: Apokolips Now: Darkseid, ruler of Apkolips and the embodiment of evil, has come to Earth to turn into a second Apokolips in his search to find the Anti-Life Equation. Standing in his way is the newly expanded roster of the Justice League, and Orion, the New God of War and Darkseid's son.
My choice for both director
AND producer would have to be J.J> Abrams (
Star Trek,
Super 8) and Zack Snyder (
Sucker Punch,
Man of Steel). Abrams is familar with working with big casts and is great at story telling. Snyder, on the other hand, is familar with the comic book genre, and is great with action scenes. Together, these two would create an awesome Justice League movie.
Here are some notes about my take on the Justice League:
- By the third film, the League would feature a giant roster, similar to the one featured in Alex Ross's
Justice.
-Their base would by the Watchtower, and I don't mean the satellite watchtower shown on the
Justice League cartoons, but the one on Earth's surface that was featured in Grant Morrison's run on
JLA.
- Superman's would be similar to the one featured in the upcoming film,
Man of Steel.
- Batman's costume would be a combination of the
Batman Begins and the
Arkham City costume.
- Wonder Woman's costume would be similar to the traditional, but with a "skirt" similar to the one found on Greek armor.
- Green Lantern's costume would take inspiration from his "New 52" look.
- In the first two films, Aquaman would keep his traitional look, but by the third film, he would have his 90's look (long hair, retractable hook hand, and gladitorial manica).
- Green Arrow's costume would be a mix of his New 52 costume and the one seen in his 1988 series. He'd sport a circle beard rather than a goattee and mustache.
- Brainiac's look would take inspiration from the
Crysis nanosuit, but a bit more mechanical in nature and with a dark purple tinge to it.
- Brainiac's ship would be similar to the Romulan Mining ship in
Star Trek
Anyway, here's the cast:
Heroes:
Justice League:
Henry Cavill (
The Tudors,
Immortals) as Kal-Ek/Clark Kent/Superman: The Last Son of Krypton, who uses his powers for the betterment of humanity. He is secretly Clark Kent, a reporter fot
The Daily Planet. Superman's abilities include flight, super strength, super speed, invulnerability, freezing breath, heat vision, x-ray vision, super-hearing, and an eidetic memory.
Reason for Casting: I have a surefire feeling that Cavill will own the role of Superman when 2013 comes. He seems pretty passionate about the role, and is a gret actor (as seen in
Immortals or
The Tudors). He's my number one choice for a JLA Supes (second being Brandon Routh).
James Caviezel (
Unknown,
Person of Interest) as Bruce Wayne/Batman: The world's greatest detective and the protector of Gotham City. Batman is highly intellegent, is trained several martial arts, and posses various gadgets kept on his utility belt, including his trademark Batarangs.
Reason for Casting: I am a huge supporter of having Caviezel play the Dark Knight after Bale. He's a damn good actor, and essentially play Batman on
Person of Interest (except for he fact that he uses guns and isn't in costume).
Julia Voth (
Bitch Slap,
Project S.E.R.A) as Princess Diana/Wonder Woman: The Princess of Themyscira, home of the Amazons. Given the power by the Gods to fight evil, she became an ambassador to the world of men. Wonder Woman is armed with the Lasso of Truth, which makes people tell the truth when ensnared in it, and a pair of magic bracelets that she uses to deflect gunfire.
Reason for Casting: Kudos to tweeeeenkies3 for this pick. Even though Bitchslap was a terrible, terrible movie (IMO), Voth did give a good performance. She has what it takes to play Wondie. And I know that a major complaint about this pick is that she's too skinny. Here's a simple solution to this problem: She can always work out to gain the muscle mass.
Matthew Fox (
Lost,
Speed Racer) as Barry Allen/The Flash: A forensic scientist who gained the ability of super speed when a bolt struck and doused hi with electrified chemicals. Dubbing himself The Flash, he became Central City's crime fighter. The Flash can run faster than the speed of light, and can vibrate his molecules to pass through solid matter.
Reason for Casting: I've only seen the first season of
Lost and part of the second season. However, I can safely say that Fox is a terrific actor and his character Jack Shepard is similar to Barry personality wise.
Chris Pine (
Star Trek,
Unstoppable) as Hal Jordan/Green Lantern: A test pilot for Ferris Aircrafts who became the Green Lantern of Sector 2814 after his predecessor. Abin Sur, crash landed on Earth. The Green Lantern power ring allows Hal to create hard light constructs fueled by his willpower.
Reason for Casting: Chris has always been the superior pick for Hal. I've been a supporter for him as GL before Reynolds was casted. His performance in
Star Trek proved that he would make an awesome Hal.
Kevin McKidd (
Rome,
Journey Man) as Arthur Curry/Aquaman: King of Altlantis and the ruler of the Oceans. Aquaman can breath both in and out of water, and can telepathically communicate with Sea Life. He can also create and hurl bolts of "Hard Water".
Reason for Casting: I first noticed McKidd in
Transpotting (one of my favorite movies), but he I barely noticed him. However, after seeing him in
Rome, I can say that he's a damn good actor, and he could turn from the laughing stock of Superheores to a pretty awesome character.
Christopher Judge (
Stargate SG-1,
X-Men: Evolution) as J'onn J'onzz/The Martian Manhunter: A green skinned native of Mars, who was transported to Earth. With no way to get back home, he defends his new home as The Martian Manhunter. J'onn's powers include shapshifting, flight, telepathy, telekinesis, invisibility, intangibility, and "Martian Vision".
Reason for Casting: I'm a big fan of
Stargate: SG-1, and Judge is terrific on it. He has this deep, powerful voice, and is tall enough for J'onn. at 6' 3". I'd like Judge to portray MM through a combination of prosthetics and CGI.
League Members in the 2nd Film:
Charlie Hunnam (
Green Street Hooligans,
Sons of Anarchy) as Oliver Queen/Green Arrow: A staunch leftist and owner of Queen industries, who fights crime as Green Arrow. Queen is a highly skilled archer , who often uses specialized "trick arrows", such as net arrows, grappling arrows, explosive arrows, flash and tear gas arrows, and a boxing glove arrow.
Reason for Casting: Hunnam's a pretty versatile actor, who's played everything from gay men to pyschos. Seeing him on
Sons of Anarchy got me thinking that he'd be awesome as Ollie. I can easily hear him spouting off Ollie's dialogue, including this one from
Final Crisis:
"Is that so? Well, my absolute hatred of dog-ridin' totalitarian @$$#&%$ justifies this!"
Jaime King (
Sin City,
Heart of Dixie) as Dinah Laurel Lance/Black Canary II: The daughter of the first Black Canary, who took up her mother's mantle, and is romantically involved with Green Arrow. Dinah is trained in Judo, and posses a hypersonic scream called a "Canary Cry".
Reason for Casting: Yvonne Strahovski as Black Canary has been done to death. King would be a nice, refreshing change. She's a damn good actress, and knows martial arts (as seen in
Bulletproof Monk).
Patrick Wilson (
Hard Candy,
Watchmen) as Ray Palmer: A New England college professor who discovered the shrinking capabilities of a fallen White Dwarf Star. With the star's power, he become the Atom. The Atom has the ability to shrink himslef down to sunatomic levels while still retaining his natural strength.
Reason for Casting: Wilson's a pretty good actor whose characters usually come off as friendly and intelligent. He'd be pretty good as Ray.
Karl Urban (
Pathfinder,
Star Trek) as Carter Hall/Hawkman: The reincarnation of the Egyptian prince Khufu who fights crime as Hawkman. Hall wears harness made of the gravity defying Nth metal, and controls it through a pair of wings. He also has an arsenal of archaic weapons, but prefers to use a mace.
Reason for Castibg: Urban's an awesome actor who I'd prefer over Gerard Butler any day. it was mainly seeing him in
Pathfinder convinced me to cast him.
Jessica Biel (
Stealth,
The A-Team) as Shiera Hall/Hawkgirl: The reincarnation of the Egyptian princess Chay-Ra, and Hawkman's partner and lover. She posses the same equipment and weapons as Hawkman.
Reason for Casting: Biel's a talented actor who's familiar with action. IMO, she'd make agreat Hawkgirl.
Mila Kunis (
The Book of Eli,
Black Swan) as Zatanna Zatara: The daughter of the magician John Zatara, who works hard to live up to her father's legacy. As a homo magi, she can cast spells by saying the commands backwards. In addition to being a hero, she's also a stage performer.
Reason for Casting: Mila has grown as an actress ever since appearing on
That 70's Show. She's now a very capable actress who's great at both comedy and drama. I've previously casted her as Catwoman and Star Sapphire, but I decided to use her for Zatanna. Just imagine her in Zatanna's fishnets. ;-)
League Members in the 3rd film
Morris Chestnut (
Boyz n the Hood,
V) as John Stewart: An architect who serves as the "back-up" Lantern of Space Sector 2814, incase of anything should happen to Hal.
Reason for Casting: If you've ever seen any of Chestnut's work, then you'd know he'd make a great John. Plus, he even looks like the way John was drqwn on
Justice League UnLimited.
Tahmoh Penikett (
Battlestar Galactica,
DollHouse) as Nathaniel Adam/Captain Atom: An Air Force pilot who was bonded with the alien metal Dilustel and blasted ten years into the future. The alloy is connected to the Quanum Field, which gives Atom the abilities of flight, superhuman strength, and the ability to absorb any form of energy. He can also tap into the Quantum field and use it to create protective barriers or destructive energy blasts.
Reason for Casting: Billy Crudup has been a popular pick for Cap Atom because of his performance as Doctor Manhattan in
Watchmen (Fun Fact: Doctor Manhattan was based off the Charlton Comics version of Captain Atom). Tahmoh's a great actor who's tall enough for the role at 6' 2". He'd make a kick ass Cap Atom.
James Roday (
Beerfest,
Psych) as Ted Kord/Blue Beetle II: The owner of Kord Industries and the second person to take up the mantle of the Blue Beetle. Unlike his predecessor, Kord does not possess the Blue Beetle Scarab. Instead, he supplements them with gadgets such as suction cup pads and a bb gun that fires blinding light and compressed air blasts.
Reason for Casting: Roday's hilarious on
Psych, and plays a Ted like character on there. He'd be great as Ted.
Chris Evans (
Fierce People,
Captain America: The First Avenger) as Michael Jon Carter/Booster Gold: A former Football Star from the 25th Century who went back in time to become rich. However, since joining the Justice League, Booster takes his hero role more seriously and tries to prove himself to his peers. Booster uses 25th century technology to supply him with Superpowers. These include a flight ring, energy firing gauntlets, a protective battle suit, and a visor thar provides him with different types of vision.
Reason for Casting: If you're all going to bitch about Evans appearing in too many superhero movies, then I have some news for you: I simply do not care. Anyway, Evans is great at both action and comedy, and he would make a wonderful Booster Gold.
Other Heroes:
Dominic Purcell (
John Doe,
Prison Break) as Orion: The son of Darkseid, who was raised by Highfather, ruler of New Genesis. Orion is sent to Earth by Highfather to warn the Justice League the impeding threat of Darkseid. Orion is immortal, trained in various forms of combat, and posses a healing factor. Orion also posses a sentient computer called a MotherBox, and the Astro-Harness, an alien artifact capable of flight, inter-spatial and inter-dimensional travel, energy projection, and forec field generation.
Reason for Casting: Purcell's a pretty good actor who could portray the anger and violence needed for Orion.
Benedict Cumberbatch (
Sherlock,
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy) as Metron: The New God of Knowledge, who travels through Space and Time in search of greater knowledge. He takes no sides in the war between Apokolips and New Genesis, but prefers to be with New Genesis because he believes that Darkseid would hinder him in his quest for knowledge. He serves as an observer during the battle between the Justice League and Darkseid's forces.
Reason for Casting: Cumberbatch is a brilliant actor whose rich, baritone voice fits perfectly with Metron.
Villains:
Peter Weller (
Robocop,
24) as Brainiac: A Coluan android whose programed to go from planet to planet, absorbing its history, culture, and knowledge, then destroying it. Brainiac is a 12th level intellect, being highly intelligent and also being to project his conscious into copies of his body if his original body gets destroyed.
Reason for Casting: Yes, I chose Robocop himself, Peter Weller. He has the right voice for the role and played a great villain on
24. It would also be pretty nostalgic to see Weller back on screen again.
The Secret Society of Supervillains:
Inner Council:
Matthew Goode (
Watchmen,
Leap Year) as Libra: The mysterious leader of the Society, who is later revealed to be a herald of Darkseid. Libra posses the powers of persuasion and telepathic immunity. His staff also has a spear point that can burst into flames.
Reason for Casting: I originally had Goode and Tom Hiddleston for my picks for Libra, but I went with Goode because I felt Libra would be too similar to Loki. Anyway, Goode gave a great performance in
Watchmen, and I feel that he could do wonders with Libra.
Jon Hamm (
Mad Men,
The Town) as Lex Luthor: The owner of LexCorp and member of the Society's inner council, who is obsessed with destroying Superman. Luthor is a brilliant genius, and uses a suit of powered armor to gain an edge against Superman. The suit gives him the abilities of flight, enhanced strength, and fires blasts of kryptonite energy.
Reason for Casting: Some of the inspiration for casting Hamm was the Funny or Die video "Lex Luthor Bailout". However, the majority of the inspiration came from his performance as Don Draper on
Mad Men. In my opinion, he'd make a pretty good Luthor, especialy a DCAU-esque Luthor (the Lex Luthor I knew growing up).
Michael Fassbemder (
Shame,
A Dangerous Method) as Prometheus: A multi-lingual tactical genius and expert marksman, who is also a member of the Society's inner council. Besides his intellegence, Prometheus also uses a variety of gadgets which include: special body armor that improves his fighting prowess, a computerized helmet that allows him to download information (including various fighting styles) and release endorphins that takes away any pain), an electrified nighstick, and a pair gauntlets that fire phosphorus and toxic darts, grenades, mini-rockets, and bullets that can harm both Martians and Krptonians. However, his equipment can be rendered useless if taken out by an EMP blast.
Reason for Casting: If you're going to complain about me casting Fassbender, here's two facts you need to know: A. This is the first time i've casted him. and B. I'm not casting him as Batman for the billionth time. I also realize the irony of casting him as a character named Prometheus when he's starring in a film called
Prometheus. Anyway, Fassbender's great at playing the deviously intelligent, and I think he'd be amazing as one of my favorite JLA villains.
Sean Bean (
The Hitcher,
Game of Thrones) as Slade Wilson/Deathstroke: A former Green Beret turned mercenary, and member of the Society's inner council. Deathstroke has the ability to use 90% of his brain, making him a master tactician, and can turn one's abilities against them. He also posses enhanced reflexes, strength, speed, and agility. He also uses various firearms and a Promethium sword. However, Deathstroke is missing his right eye, and wears an eye patch when not in mask.
Reason for Casting: Stephen Lang has been a popular choice for Deathstroke, but I think he lacks the charisma that Deathstroke needs. Bean, an underrated actor (think "Gary Oldman" underrated) who has the charisma and acting chops to play Slade WIlson.
Powers Boothe (
Sin City,
Deadwood) as Gorilla Grodd: The former dictator of Gorilla City, a hidden civilization in he heart of Africa, home to a race of hyper-intellegent gorillas. He now serves as a member of the Society's inner council. Along with possessing the regular attributes of a Gorilla, Grodd also possess psionic powers such as mental control.
Reason for Casting: Like I said before, I grew up watching
Justice League and
Justice League Unlimited. I always though that Boothe had the perfect voice for Grodd. Plus, he's great at playing villains.
Other members of the Society:
Evangeline Lilly (
Lost,
Real Steel) as Barbara Ann Minerva/Cheetah III: A British archeologist and the third person to take up the mantle of the Cheetah. Unlike her predecessors, Barbara is can take on the form of a human cheetah, which gives her the the strength and agility of a Cheetah, along with fangs and razor sharp claws.
Reason for Casting: Lily's a great actress who would make a great Cheetah (with proper training).
Gary Oldman (
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy) as Thaal Sinestro: A renegade Green Lantern, who uses a yellow power ring, similar to a Green Lantern's but powered by fear. With it, he can fly and create hard light constructs.
Reason for Casting: Oldman's a fantastic actor who's great at playing both heroes and villains. I'm convinced that he would be amazing as Sinestro, especially after seeing him in
The Book of Eli.
Norman Reedus (
The Boondock Saints,
The Walking Dead) as Floyd Lawton/Deadshot: An assassin for hire who claims he never misses, and will complete a job as long as he's getting paid. Deadshot is skilled with many weapons, but primarily uses a pair of silenced, wrist-mounted, 9mm submachine guns.
Reason for Casting: Reedus is a brillianty actor, who you may know as Daryl Dixon on
The Walking Dead. He's a complete badass on there, and I think he has the right amount of swagger to portray Deadshot.
Ewan McGregor (the
Star Wars prequels,
Beginners) as Evan McCulloch/Mirror Master II: A Scottish mercenary and the second person to take up the mantle of Mirror Master. As his name suggests, he has various powers over mirrors, including the ability to travel through them and trap others within them. He can also create 3-D mirror duplicates of himself.
Reason for Casting: Ewan's an awesome actor (he made those crappy Star Wars prequels watchable), and his recent turn to villainous roles in
Angels & Demons,
Haywire, and
Othello convinced me he'd be good as Mirror Master.
Also, I went with the Evan McCulloch version instead of the Sam Scudder version because I find the second Mirror Master more interesting.
James Callis (
Battlestar Galactica,
Eureka) as Doctor Light: A former S.T.A.R Labs scientist turned criminal. Light has the ability to manipulate light. He can also become invisible, create forcefields, fire energy blasts, create force fields, and fly.
Reason for Casting: James played a great villain on
Battlestar Galactica, and has this sleazy quality that would work well with Light.
Adam Baldwin (
Serenity,
Chuck) as Rudy Jones/Parasite: A janitor at S.T.A.R Labs who was turned into a purple-skinned, parasitic entity after being exposed to biohazard chemicals. Parasite has the ability to absorb to energy, memories, and superpowers from somebody through skin contact. However, it is only temporary.
Reason for Casting: Baldwin's a big guy at 6' 4", is powerfully built, and is very intimidating. EH'd make an awesome Parasite. Plus, he voiced the character on
Young Justice.
Amanda Righetti (
Friday the 13th,
The Mentalist) as Giganta: A former scientist who transferred bodies with a circus strong woman to save herself from a fatal blood disease. Giganta has the ability to increase her size and mass, turning her into a giantess. This also increases her strength.
Reason for Casting: Amanda's a great actor, with a somewhat muscular build. I think she'd be good as Giganta.
Lance Reddick (
Fringe,
The Wire) as Black Manta: A deep sea diver and Aquaman's archenemy. Black Manta has the ability to breath underwater through artificial gills, enhanced strength through his suit, gauntlets that fire electrical blasts, miniaturized torpedoes, and laser beams that fire through his eye lenses.
Reason for Casting: Reddick is a pretty tall actor who is very imposing and pretty intimidating. He'd make a great Black Manta, and its refreshing to see somebody thats not Chiwetel Ejiofer for the millionth time.
Darkseid and Elite.
Michael Ironside (
The Machinist,
Total Recall) as Darkseid (voice): The tyrannical ruler of Apkolips, who seeks the ati-life equation. He has conquered dozens of planets in his search for it. Like the rest of the New Gods, he is immortal. His main powers are the Omega Beams, a form energy that he fires from his eyes. The Omega Beams can somebody, erase them from history or resurrect them, depending on Darkseid's will.
Reason for Casting: Michael Ironside is my No.1 choice for Darkseid. He voiced him on
Superman: The Animated Series and his voice was cold, intellegent, calculating, and purely evil. If you don't believe me, then check out this clip from
Superman: The Animated Series:
Gerard Butler (
RocknRolla, Corialanus) as Kalibak: Darkseid's first born son, whom he does not love and barely acknowledges as his son. He serves as Darkseid's second in command, and is feared by the denizens of Apkolips, who refer to him as Kalibak the Cruel. Besides his brute strengh, Kalibak uses a Beta-Club, a weapon that fires force bolts or nerve beams that cause agonizing pain.
Reason for Casting: I've never been a fan of casting Butler because he's always been a mediocre actor to me. However, after recently seeing him in
RocknRolla and
Machine Gun Preacher, I've seen he's improved a bit as an actor. However, the only role I can see him in as for now is somebody as brutal and savage as Kalibak.
Robert Knepper (
Heroes,
Prison Break) as Desaad: Darkseid's master torturer, who takes pleasure in his particular line of work. Despite his intellegence, Desaad is a sadist and a coward.
Reason for Casting: If you've seen Knepper on
Prison Break, you know that he's great at playing the creepy yet intellectual type. He;d be great as Desaad.
Kathy Bates (
Misery,
Harry's Law) as Granny Goodness: One of Darkseid's elite and cheif of the Female Furies, a group of woman warriors who are fanaticaly devoted to Darkseid. In her Terror Orphanages, Granny uses torture and brainwashing to turn the innocent into warriors who are willing to kill or die for Darkseid's glory.
Reason for Casting: After seeing Bates as Annie Wilkes in
Misery, I was totally convinced that Bates was born to play Granny.
Ian Anthony Dale (
Tekken,
Mortal Kombat: Rebirth) as Steppenwolf: The leader of Darkseid's military, who rides a hoverbike in combat. Steppenwolf's two main weapons are his electro-axe and his cable-snare that fires lethal energy beams.
Reason for Casting: I was impressed by his performance as Scorpion, and it immediately hit me that he'd be awesome as Steppenwolf.
Dee Bradley Baker (
Avatar: The Last Airbender,
Gears of War 2) as the Parademons (vocal effects): The monstrous, demon-like shock troopers of Apkolips. Create by Desaad's twisted science and Granny Goodness's brainwashing, the Parademons are unquestionably loyal to Darkseid, whom they view as their great and terrible God.
Reason for Casting: Baker's a great vocal actor who, like Frank Welker, is great at doing creature noises. He could do the Parademons in his sleep, who I imagine to have a shrieking sound.
Anyway, that's that. Please leave your thoughts and comments below. I hope you have enjoyed my very long fan cast. Thumb it up if you like it. Also, rude and/or negative comments will be deleted.
