No doubt, to many a fan and industry pro alike, one of the greatest creative teams on Iron Man (aside from the original creators) was David Michelinie and Bob Layton, who took over the title in the late 1970's. They gave us some of the most well-known Iron Man stories, such as the classic "Demon in a Bottle", and his fight against Obadiah Stane's takeover of Stark International. (They also gave us James Rhodes, Bethany Cabe, and Justin Hammer.) One other story they're well known for is the Iron Man vs. Dr. Doom in medieval England saga "Doomquest", which spawned two sequels: "Recurring Knightmare", and the subject of this fancast, 2008's "Legacy of Doom", which reunited Michelinie and Layton on writing duties, with art by a collaboration of Layton and Ron Lim.

In the story, taking place in the present but told via flashback, Tony Stark finds an auto-save circuit in an old armor (the late-80's Neo-Classic armor) that he was melting down. On that circuit is a "lost adventure" he has no memory of--one where he has confronted Doctor Doom in a battle involving Mephisto's realm, the sword Excalibur, and Stonehenge--with the fate of the world in the balance.
I thought this was a pretty neat story (now I need to read Doomquest), and thought it would make a decent animated feature. So, here's how it would look:
-DVD cover art by...you guessed, Bob Layton.
-Script adaptation by Chris Yost (he's done wonders with The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes).
-Art/animation style similar to the Layton/Lim hybrid art in the mini.
And now, the voice cast:
Jeffery Donovan as the voice of Iron Man/Tony Stark
I've seen people use Donovan as ol' shellhead in fancasts, and after seeing part of an episode of Burn Notice, I think he'd be a decent voice for the armored Avenger. Plus, this would be the first time we'd see one of the older armors used in animation.
Jason Isaacs as the voice of Doctor Doom/Victor Von Doom
Isaacs definitely has some comic book character experience, having voiced Ra's Al Ghul in Batman: Under the Red Hood and Sinestro in Green Lantern: Emerald Knights, so I thought he would be terrific as the good doctor.
John Noble as the voice of Mephisto
Like I stated in my "Ghost Rider/Wolverine/Punisher: Hearts of Dark Design" fancast, I was inspired by Noble's turn as Unicron in Transformers: Prime. Here though, he'd get a chance to do the witty version of Mephisto--there's a really funny panel where he's watching Iron Man duke it out with some demons while eating popcorn.
Elizabeth Hurley as the voice of Morgane Le Fay
I picked Hurley as she would have a lovely, yet sinister voice for King Arthur's sorcerous half-sister...and one who's annoyed, yet intrigued by, and eventually vengeful of, the good Doctor Doom.
Eric Idle as the voice of Merlin
I picked Idle as he'd be great voicing this almost Mel Brooks-ish take on the wizard of Camelot. Think of something like a combination of Yogurt from Spaceballs and Ammon the playwright from the original Clash of the Titans.
John Slattery as the voice of the Howard Stark demon impostor
This beast is one of the foes Iron Man goes up against while in Mephisto's realm, and Mephisto molds it in Howard Stark's likeness to torture Tony mentally. Since Slattery played Howard Stark in Iron Man 2, I thought it'd be fitting for him to voice this impostor.
Additional voices
-Dee Bradley Baker as a Latverian scientist and pilot, an American astronomer
-Grey DeLisle as a scientist and an English tourist
-John DiMaggio as a British contractor
-Kevin Michael Richardson as the head astronomer and a monster
Thanks for taking the time to look at this short, but hopefully sweet, fancast. As a reward--ladies and gentlemen, CHRISTOPHER CROSS (WITH BACKUP VOCALS BY MICHAEL MCDONALD):
