With the most recent information/rumor that George Lucas will be releasing three new Star Wars films for theatrical release in the near future, I must say that I do not know why Lucas will not revisit the thought of episodes 7-9 first.
Don't get me wrong, I am all for more Star Wars films over what would probably be a really lame television series any day of the week, but where is 7-9?
We have all heard the rumors that Lucas did indeed have a story, or at least a rough outline, of what happened to Luke Skywalker, Han Solo and the rest after Return of the Jedi.
Instead, Lucas wants to fast forward into the Star War future and begin anew with a brand new set of characters for his next trilogy.
I am intrigued by this concept, but first let me say that I think going back and making full CG films for each episode 7-9 should be explored as well by Lucas animation.
With the success of the Clone Wars animated series (well at least the first two seasons, the third has been terrible so far in my opinion), why not animated Skywalker, Solo and the others to finish the trilogy saga?
Seems like an easy way to give fans that mythical final trilogy to the saga.
But when I look at a new trilogy set years into the future, I see an entertaining way to engage a new audience and hopefully the old audience as well.
Will the Sith be back in a new trilogy?
Will the Force grant life to another just as it did with Anakin Skywalker in the past?
Will the Skywalker family still be in this future trilogy?
So many questions will be generated by this news of a new trilogy and it really does get my mind working with all the questions and possibilities of a brand new Star Wars.
