"InSpace" casts Captain Marvel's movie...

Great news! Shazam is finally back in development , and it's time for Captain Marvel to join the silver screen with his DC brethren.

I would base most of the film on "SHAZAM! and The Monster Society of Evil" , It's by Jeff Smith the creator of BONE. It shows Billy as an orphan and he lives in an abadoned apt building, He helps out his friend Tawky Tawny. He later follows a shadowed man to a train that travels to the Rock of Eternity where the Wizard Shazam lives. He then becomes the Captian and tries to find his sister Mary. She then becomes a Marvel. Then they get captured by Dr. Sivana who tries to control the Monster Society of Evil, which is destroying the city.

Casting Call!

First off Brandon Molale as the Big Red Cheese himself Captin Marvel=

Dude looks perfect for Marvel and he's a big fan as you can see, and I think He's a WAY better pick than LEEE's Patrick Warburton.

And Carter Jenkins as Captain Marvels alter ego Billy Batson=

I think he looks perfect for a teenage Billy Batson,You might Remember him from "Aliens in the Attic" and "Keeping Up With the Steins".

Makenzie Vega as Captain Marvel's sister Mary =

The old Mary Marvel stayed as a teen unlike the modern version. Makenzie has been in two Comic-Book movies, Xmen:the last stand as the little girl Mystique took form of in the milatary transport and as young Jessica Alba in SIN CITY.

Stephen Root as Sterling Morris=

Sterling Morris is Billy's soon to be boss at the news network.

Brian Doyle-Murray as Tawky Tawny=

In "SHAZAM! and The Monster Society of Evil" Tawky Tawny is a friendly HoBo and is a father figure to Billy, it later turns out that he is an Ifrit,a wandering spirit that changes from human to animal and that he is an agent of Shazam.

Michael caine as the Wizard Shazam=

I know he plays Alfred, But his voice is perfect fo the role and based on his looks from Children of men he looks perfect.

Either Dustin Hoffman or William Dafoe for Dr. Sivana=

I'm torn between the two , I had my heart set out for Dafoe but then I saw LEEE's article and saw Hoffman.

Frank Welker as the voice of Mister Mind=

Dr. Claws voice would be perfect for Mister Mind.

And thats it, if you disagree or agree with my casting

I like these picks. Seriously great job. Brian Doyle-Murray for Tawky Tawny is a great idea. Who is this Brandon Molale dude? Do you think he could really pull off the squeaky clean additude?
InSpace
InSpace - 7/22/2009, 7:04 AM
yeah
he was in Balls of fury dodgeball and a couple of other films

Yes well, that's the talentless hack with three inches high eyebrows that i was talking about Loganoneil. It would be the same as casting ANYBODY with no talent but the accurate look. It would suck as much as HHH for Thor. Sorry InSpace, looks wise he's perfect but he would single handedly sink the franchise.

Shaman - 7/22/2009, 9:37 AM
That's a fair point Teabag. However, "if" The Rock would get the part, it "could" attract more movie goers than thickbrow, up top. That's why i was saying that Captain Marvel and Rock kinda need each other if there is to be any slight interest in succeeding. Or else, the concept's doom to begin with.

the rock will be the black atom if they make this movie. ite the only way it would make money. also, isnt that the kid from surface?
Supermike

Shaman How can you call him talentless hack do you act too ?
Shaman
Shaman - 7/22/2009, 10:28 AM
Good point teabag.

Supermike, you're an asshole. Don't try to make a valid argument cause your head will explode from incompetency. You don't need to act to see how bad an actor is. That guy was in "The Rundown" and couldn't even pull off a convincing thug with no lines!!! He's the last guy ANYONE in they're right mind would want to represent their favorite hero.
Shaman
Shaman - 7/22/2009, 10:56 AM
Watch "The Rundown" teabag. I find it's a great action flick. It has inventive action sequences and The Rock did a very decent job as an actor. Christopher Walken left me breathless with his whitty humour and Sean William Scott wasn't as bad as he normally is. Molale's one of the two bodyguards you see at the mob boss's place. I don't remember if he had a line but you could tell he wasn't convincing in the least. Unless they want to make Captain Marvel a guy who has to surmount down syndrome, i don't see that guy anywhere near that character.

Supermike... you're an asshole.

Who is Brandon Molale and why should he get to play Captain Marvel? Like I said about Patrick Warburton in LEEE777's article, just because he kinda' looks like the Big Red Cheese, doesn't necessarily make him the best chioce for the role. CAN HE 'ACT'?! I also feel that an introductory movie should be just about Captain Marvel - no Mary Marvel, Captain Marvel Jr. or Uncle Marvel allowed (let's not turn this into 'Spiderman III', please!). Additionally, let's ground this in a semi-realistic world - no talking tigers, worms or rabbits! Get a decent cast (one that can ACT as well as look like the characters), go with 'The New Beginning' origin, and keep it real!

This next bit I copied verbatim from my post on LEEE777's thread:

"I know what some would say, "But it's JUST Captain Marvel!" Would those same critics say the same for an 'A-lister' like Batman or Superman? Would people still have a non-commital attitude if just anyone and not Christian Bale landed the role in 'Batman Begins'?

A little history lesson - back in the day when Captain Marvel was still owned by Fawcett Publications, he was THE MOST POPULAR COMIC BOOK CHARACTER - PERIOD. He out-sold BOTH Superman AND Batman. DC (seeing the OBVIOUS threat to their money-makers) decided to instigate a series of lawsuits against Fawcett that eventually bankrupted them (they were a pretty much a one-trick pony and had all their eggs in one basket with the Big Red Cheese). After Fawcett went belly-up, DC scooped-up (stole) Cap for a song and relegated him to the B-listers (making sure that he would NEVER again compete with their primary bread-winner, the Big Blue Schoolboy). When Marvel created Captain Mar-Vell (Marvel), another series of lawsuits started over the name, with Marvel partially winning the right (how I have NO idea - DC probably didn't give a rat's @ss about Red), pushing the Big Red Cheese further down the comic book food chain (that's WHY you never see his name referred to in a title. It's always something like 'The Power of Shazam', or something like that).

Now I know what you're all thinking, what's the big deal? It was a silly little comic - talking tigers, rabbits and worms, vertically-challenged mad scientists bent on global domination, etc. But don't forget to put it into CONTEXT - nearly EVERY comic of that time was like that (INCLUDING the beloved Batman and Superman!). If DC hadn't sued (or if Fawcett had won), if Captain Marvel had been allowed to evolve with the times as a major player and not like the two-bit after-thought that DC has been treating him for decades, I'm willing to bet he would have been a SERIOUS contenter, with movies with the weight and gravitas of a 'Batman Begins', Dark Knight' or 'Iron Man'! Artists like Alex Ross see his potential - just read 'Kingdom Come' and tell me he's crap, I DARE YOU!"

There's a LOT of GREAT stuff there in the origins storyline, IF it's done properly.

Don't mess with the Captain!

...SHAZAM!

i think brandon molale is a good actor. he was hilarious in mr deeds. and he has a major role in the new vampires assisstant movie, which has alot of good actors in it. so i think he would be perfect
InSpace
InSpace - 7/22/2009, 2:26 PM
Shaman@ Give him a chance he hasnt even gotten a big role in a film yet.

loganoneil@ the only orgin story that I have read from Captain Marvel is "SHAZAM! and The Monster Society of Evil" so thats why I take that route.
Shaman
Shaman - 7/22/2009, 3:07 PM
brycied- Honestly, i felt his performance was as lame in Mr. Deeds as it was in The Rundown.

InSpace- Us fans aren't here to give any actor "chances" with beloved superhero roles. He needs to have a decent background (which he really doesn't) OR be an unknown that has the talent to blow our socks off!!!

teabag- Ah yes, i didn't remember where you were from. Roar had told ne that on the other side of the ocean, it was named "welcome to the jungle". It was quite an exciting film and The Rock was very very decent in it. Come back later this evening to check out my next sketch in the fan fic section.

Loganoneil- I know it's all a matter of opinion but the majority of the people on this site feel it's a lost cause. Unless they can figure out a way to make the character more appealing. Hopefully they will cause he's actually a very decent character. Soooo underused because of that douche that always gets his ass handed to him... can't remember the name... had a kid last time i saw him... hmmmmmmm?

AMEN Brother Shaman with your comment to InSpace, preach on, PREACH ON! I agree WHOLE-HEARTEDLY (regardless of the role)!

LEEE777 - 7/22/2009, 4:51 PM
INSPACE @ I can suck what?????

Well that's really nice considering you don't even bother going to my article to even comment?

MOLALE couldn't act of Day of our lives let alone carry a feature film? I don't see how he even looks like CM either, not one bit??? Well apart from the t-shirt lol.

INSPACE @ Nice picks though, but i don't get how MARY MARVEL is 11 or something and BILLYS a TEEN and older than her??? WTF with that lol?

MICHAEL CAINE i cannot see as SHAZAM??? Id just see ALFRED with a magic wond? I can deal with actorsdoing a DC character and a Marvel but doing another Dc major character just takes the magic (lol) from the movie, it takes something away! ; )

i love BRAIN as TAWKY even though hopefully that character and UNCLE MARVEL don't make it in the movie, i agree with LOGAN we need it a little um real lol.

That goes for HOPPY too! ; D

Dude i like you HOFFMAN idea lol!

Oh and as you told me to SUCK IT for no apparent reason...

Oh and LEEE whats up with putting your article on mine.LOL

I like your picks but IMO they should (if they're including Mary Marvel) do the older looking version of Mary so then someone like Mary Elizabeth Winstead can play her rather than Mackenzie Vega.
InSpace
InSpace - 7/27/2009, 4:34 AM
Frogman@ Yeah I know I just like the idea of Billy having a younger sister that he has to take care of better than the other way around

loganoniel -- I share your love for the Big Red Cheese, but your history needs a little help:

Thga lawsuit initiated by the company now known as DC Comics did not bankrupt Fawcett Publications. Fawcett was a highly successful magazine publishing empire that began when Captain Wilford H. "Billy" Fawcett published "Captain Billy's Whiz Bang" after WWI, and grew to include such titles at Popular Mechanix, Family Circle, Woman's Day, and True Confessions. Their comics empire was far from a one-trick pony. 4 of the 6 back-up features in the first issue of Whiz Comics went on to have their own titles (Ibis, Golden Arrow, Spy Smasher, Lance O'Casey), Titles like Wow and Master Comics (which featured Mary Marvel and Capt. Marvel Jr., as well as other characters) were very successful, Fawcett acquired the rights to publish comics about Captain Midnight, Tom Mix, Captain Video, Nyoka the Jungle Girl, Monte Hale, Don Winslow of the Navy, Hopalong Cassidy, Gabby Hayes, Lash LaRue, and more, and their other superheroes, BulletMan & Bulletgirl, Mr. Scarlet & Pinky, Minute Man, etc, were as popular in their day as many other companys' heroes.

Fawcett settled out of court in 1953 when superhero comics, and comics in general, were losing sales due to the end of WWII and concerns by parents and civic-minded citizens that comics were "corrupting" American youth and leading to everything from truancy to promiscuity to homosexuality to juvenile delinquency to murder. They were spending a lot of time and money comparing Superman comics to Captain Marvel comics to see who was ripping off whom so the courts could asses the "damage" that was done by Captain Marvel's court-recognized "copyright infringement" of Superman. So they made the business-wise decision to cancel their comic book line and pay DC Comics $400,000. They admited no wrong-doing and retained their rights to most of their characters, except they sold off some of their properties, including Hoppy the Marvel Bunny, to Charlton.

Many years later (1967), Marvel Comics created their own Captain Marvel, and trademarked the name, so no other comic book company could put the name "Captain Marvel" on a comic book.

Then in 1972, Carmine Infantino, the publisher of DC Comics decided that since he loved the Big Red Cheese so much, he would try to see if he could get the rights from Fawcett (still going strong as a publisher of magazines and paperback novels). At first DC leased the rights, then bought them outright, and they made a very serious push to make him a first-tier character, even hiring CC Beck to draw the stories.

Why that failed is a whole 'nother story.

Heres' a part of a lecture I gave about this:

LEEE777
LEEE777 - 12/18/2009, 4:44 PM
Lol @ INSPACE!! Yeah you know if you put the same original pictures back in here the PICS will come up again!

Yeah do a FF REBOOT dude, and i did that sequel casting a while back, i too think it'll be better to reboot it, just not go and do the reboot the whole ORIGIN thing again, maybe do what they did with the INCREDIBLE HULK movie, just go straight into the action!

Anyway, cool dude hope ya have a great Christmas!!!
