Whilst not the biggest fan of superman returns (espesially the super-son story)i do think we need superman on the big screen.
We all know warner bros have untill 2013 to get a movie out or pay millions to the Siegel and Shuster estate so the legal wrangling's may have something to do with the hold-up on this or warner bros haven't got a clue what to do with supe's?

Since the success of the dark knight film studio's are starting to think darker the better for CBM's yet how do you do this with superman, who could his enemy be to get the best story possible.
The best idea around to get supe's back up there is probably the triology what was planned by Mark Millar but once this was done where else could you go?

Here's my idea for story/cast plus possible spin-off movies:
Firstly i would stick with Brandon Routh as the look is just perfect for supe's

Then for the darker aspect i would relaunch starting with a superman vs lobo story as this would give you options as to where the battles take place eg:space, other planets, anywhere, this would also bring lobo into the public eye ready for a spin-off movie.
For lobo casting i think i would go with Gerard Butler as he's a versitle actor who can do crazy very well.

Now for Lois my opioin we need a plane-jane for this role so i would like to see Anne Hathaway take a shot not the greatest actress i know but i think it would work.

Then maybe after this movie they could go with Metallo on the casting here im in agreement with NightAvenger4 great casting choices there mate.
article here:http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/TheHQ/news/?a=11489

So let the debate begin all i know is we need superman reboot or relaunch sooner rather than later.

I could get into a Superman Vs. Lobo movie. One reason why Superman 2 was so good is Superman went up againt super villians. Lex has been done to death.

No Routh. Looking live Chris Reeve is NOT what Superman is about. You have to BELIEVE he is Superman, for an actor to pull it off. Routh needed a padded suit, for crying out loud. NO ONE playing Superman should be wearing a padded suit!

Tom Welling should be Superman. He doesn't look like Chris Reeve, but he DOES look like Superman. His build, his confidence, the way he carries himself. He has assertiveness and presence. Routh was wearing a enhanced/padded suit, and he didn't exude any confidence as Superman. Looking like Chris Reeve can only get you so far. And, not to mention, we need to put the Donner Superman behind us. It didn't work for Brian Singer. There's just nowhere to go with that storyline (Clark loves Lois, hides his identity from her, Lois ignores Clark, blah, blah, blah). Where the hell can you go with that interpretation of the story? There's nowhere to go with that anymore. The reason Smallville has been successful is because they changed things up, did a new interpretation. It's unpredictable, and you don't know what's going to happen around every corner. Is Smallville everyone's cup of tea? No, and I understand that. But, would you rather see the same old story, that's going absolutely nowhere? Or, would you rather see something different? Welling is older than Reeve was, and he still hasn't put on the red and blue costume, he doesn't fly yet, Clark and Lois are romantic and Lois would recognize him as Superman, Clark and Lex were friends, a younger Mr. and Mrs. Kent, etc... Well, I pose this question.. So what? Why not?? It's different, it's new, and you don't know what's going to happen.

Just my opinion. Leave the Donner era and Christopher Reeve lookalikes behind.

Oh.. remind me again, because I forgot.. what's Routh been in since Superman Returns?? Oh, right. Nothing. In fact, can you even quote me one line of his from Superman Returns? He barely spoke through the entire movie. Like everyone else, the director and execs apparently thought him looking like Chris Reeve would be enough. Is Welling a great actor? No, but I'd take him over Routh any day of the week.

Sam Worthington is the most PLAIN, boring, emotionless person I have ever seen. I don't know why he's been getting so many good gigs lately. He's a big yawn-fest. Absolutely no expression. He's very forgettable.

Routh won't come back. I know that. I would like to see it happen, but it won't. They'll probably get an unknown again, which is the right way to go, since no big name actor fits the part.

That said, Welling won't be considered either, and he shouldn't. Letting go of the fact that he is horrid on Smallville, the show doesn't do that well. It is not bankable to turn the lead into the star of his own franchise.

Smallville averages about 2-3 million viewers per week. That is NOTHING compared to the top shows on TV right now. The top 20 shows alone average between 10-30 million views.

Smallville does okay for a show on the CW, but that is a dying network. If Smallville was on a channel like Fox or NBC, it'd probably be canceled.

There is no point in hoping for Welling, so the Welling-supporters who tell the Routh-supporters to stop hoping for his return need to take a look in the mirror, cuz Welling ain't doing it either.

BulliedNerd: Okay, I take it back. Welling has a shot. 1% of one.

WB is looking for BIG cash for the reboot. They are going to separate it from all ties to any previous Superman media. That means no Donner-verse AND no Smallville-verse. Welling has just as small a shot as Routh does. Well, Routh has a better shot, because the studio really likes him, but still, he doesn't have a good shot.

It doesn't matter if Smallville has been on for years. The fact is that the ratings for the show AT THE PRESENT TIME are not enough to warrant putting the lead as the franchise's new star. Smallville has barely scraped by with it's minuscule ratings, the only reason it's not canceled is because it's on the CW.

3 million viewers is not enough to relaunch the Superman franchise. Period.

I'm also okay with Routh not coming back, because it does make sense from a studio point of view, and because I've accepted the way that WB is moving forward. But Welling won't be cast, and he shouldn't.

If Welling got the lead in a movie it wouldn't be a Superman movie, it'll be a Smallville movie. Who wants to see that?! The whole DC movie universe [frick]ed over in one almighty fail! Bye bye Justice League hopes!

Smallville = shit concept played out perfectly by shit actors! Sorry to lay it out so bluntly but that's my thoughts on the matter.

My point is that if Welling is Superman in the next movie then people will make the Smallville connection and will not be able to separate the two as different universes. You can't have Welling play Superman in a movie continuation of Smallville because that screws over so many DC characters that could have had good movies/franchises of their own. That means less money for WB/DC and if they don't know it they should be sacked for incompetence.

Welling = NOT GOING TO HAPPEN!

As for Fan Casts, I like them. It's good to see how other people interpret the characters and who they think can do them justice. It's a fine line between madness and brilliance and it great to see people trying to walk that tightrope.

More madness i think, this franchise suffers because of the pg approach film makers take, aim at the teen market and you will bring supe's back to life.

The fan-casts on this subject will continue until WB get it right....so for a long time yet i think.

I think an unknown would do better than either Welling or Routh. And I liked Routh, though most of 'Returns' sucked hard.

And I haven't seen the newest comic reboot of Supes, so I think something like the Byrne reboot from the 80's (focusing more on being a guy with powers trying to find his place than a demigod protector - though that's changed in the comics) or the animated series - and have the villain be Brainiac with Luthor on the side as Brainiac's human dupe. An actual challenge for Supes.
