The New Spidey (Not Who You're Thinking Of)

The New Spidey (Not Who You're Thinking Of)

I've had this idea for quite a while now, and I just wanted to share it. It's basically my take on the Spidey mythos, with new characters, as well as new villains...

SETTING: Chicago

THE PERSON IN MIND: Alan White. (Just workshopping it.)

BACKGROUND: Alan is somewhat like Peter Parker in the sense that he's kind of a loner. But, only to an extent. He has friends in a light sense, (They're more like "acquaintances", so to speak.), but only one true friend: TJ, (Again, still workshopping it.), who is incredibly intelligent and seems to be the only person who really gets him. Alan is also shy, which is the main reason he has trouble making friends, as well as talking to girls his age. He's also a bright student, able to keep a decent grade in his classes. But, he's nowhere near as smart as TJ.
Alan also has some trouble at home. You see, Alan's father is a lot like TJ; he's very intelligent. But, instead of being modest about it like TJ, Alan's father, (Let's just call him "Steven"), is very boastful about this and is disappointed that his son doesn't have an intellect like his. He's also much more outgoing than Alan is, which also makes him disappointed in his son.
Alan's mother Lauren, on the other hand, is very nurturing of her son and feels sorry for him. (Because Steven basically ignores his son most of the time because he's disappointed in him.) Alan is aware of this fact, which makes him very attached to his mother. (Not in a creepy way, but more of because she understands and cares about him more than his father. Make sense?)
Now that we have Alan established, we can discuss the story.

STORY: Alan is a sophomore in high school, and has had trouble keeping friends since the previous year. (He had friends up until freshman year, where they sort of "abandoned" him.) He and TJ are the closest of friends, and they have many classes together. They each sort of stick up for the other. Anyways, the story starts to change when Alan has a class without TJ, and he meets this girl, Jess, who happens to find him interesting. This comes as a surprise to Alan, considering that she is actually one of the more attractive girls in his sophomore class and he'd had a hard time talking to any girls before.
Alan and this girl eventually become friends, and they start spending more time together. Alan's grade begins to slip in his classes because of this, which leads to his father telling him that he has "given up on him". This inspires Alan to take some initiative in his life, where he gets a job at a research facility, Biotech, where his father works, and he starts to study more so he can get good grades and stick it to his father in a way.
During his time at the research facility, he works in the biological department with his father, where they perform various experiments on animals with all kinds of chemicals, vaccines, etc. During his time here, Alan and his father start to bond and see eye to eye, which Lauren is happy for. They work on a new steroid/serum with a team of scientists that gives the recipient traits of whatever animal's genome/DNA is engineered into it, which progresses quite quickly. Then, Steven is singled out by the head of the facility, Dr. Anderson, to give the new steroid to his son or he will have him and his entire family killed. Steven reluctantly accepts, and mixes the steroid in with Alan's meals so that he won't notice.
Finally, one night, Alan has a horrible nightmare, only to wake up to find himself atop a skyscraper. He falls off. Then, he makes an amazing discovery. He tries to grab onto the side of then building for dear life, only to find that his hands stick to the wall. He experiments with this, then makes his way home after realizing that he also has incredible athletic abilities as well. He also finds, after more experimentation that he can sense danger strikes, is very strong, and has fangs that are capable of releasing venom. (He learns while brushing his teeth.)Alan doesn't know how he got these powers, but he doesn't want to tell his father because he's worried that if he does, he'll lose the respect he recently earned from him, and he'll think his son is a monster.
He has TJ visit, and he shows him all of these things that he can do. TJ, stunned, is very supportive of Alan, who thought that TJ would think he was a freak. TJ stays over, and Alan shows him more of what he can do. Steven checks on Alan to see if the serum worked by peeking in after hearing commotion and seeing Alan crawling across the ceiling, then jumping off. Steven informs Dr. Anderson, while meanwhile TJ embraces his nerdier side and suggests that Alan fight crime under the guise of "Spider-Man". Though he finds this cheesy, it has a nice ring to it, and TJ and Alan design a crude-yet-effective suit, which I thought should look something like this, but maybe with a cruder "stenciled-on" look:

ANYWAYS, Alan and TJ design a suit from an old wetsuit, boots, and gloves that Alan has, and they make the mask from some one-way goggles and an old Halloween mask. (NOTE-This process takes days, not just one night.) TJ also notes that, considering Alan's powers are very spider-like, he needs some kind of web. They spend the next week or so designing web-shooters. During this time, Alan's newfound sense of confidence he found by earning his father's respect, as well as his new powers, gives him the courage to ask out Jess, who accepts.
Finally, the web-shooters are ready, and TJ and Alan test them. They work well. They also discover Alan can sing from them, which gives him a better mode of transportation. Now, it's time to put his abilities to the test, and Alan manages to almost flawlessly stop a four-man grand theft auto, as well as get on the news for his heroism. Alan's parents see the events unfold on TV. Lauren is happy to see someone helping out the police, but Steven realizes that things have gotten out of hand, and he decides to call Dr. Anderson afterwards. Alan quickly returns home and talks about it with TJ on his phone. They're ecstatic that it went off without a hitch.

PART 2 WILL BE UP SHORTLY... Tell me what you guys think in the comments, because this was my original idea, and I'd like some constructive criticism to help me become a better writer. THANKS!

Fantastic. I like the story and it keeps me suspended. I can't wait to find out what else Alan does with his powers and what happens to Steven and Dr. Anderson. I also want to see what you do with TJ and Jess. Overall, it's great. I do have to question Alan's desire to fight crime, but I'm sure you'll incorporate some tragedy into his life to further his desire.

Thanks for all the compliments! And yes, @superherofan21, his desire to fight crime comes in later in the story, which will be finished really soon.

Hey, man! Great stuff! I'm also coming up with my own Spidey, but he's set in our world, our universe where he can see movies like TASM and reads comics. He's inspired by the heroes especially Spidey.

His name is WEB-SHOT!

I'm also thinking of anew Spidey as well!!! He's gonna be called spider-man but it's in our world without any heroes. He's in NY and he gets his powers from a random spider. He was accidentally exposed to radioactivity as a baby and the spider triggered his transformation.

Sorry if White comes off as racist. I was thinking of last names and then I thought of the White Stripes because I was listening to Pandora. ;)
