I watched Justice League: Doom last night, and I have to say, the JLA stuff always gives me a reason to laugh at Batman. On his own, Batman is seen as a reclusive, if not heroic, guy. In JLA stories, Batman all of a sudden just becomes this asshole, a guy so anal retentiveness that it gets on peoples nerves.

The story set up is simple, what if personal rivals of all the JLA members had a proven means to take down their opponents? Well, Batman of course has these plans for such an occasion, and when the villains get a hold on these documents. What follows, is a well executed attack on the JLA using Batmans methods. To put it lightly, the rest of the JLA is not impressed.

First off, I was really impressed with the voice cast. Mostly everyone that has done a decent job in the past few years with DC Animated is back. Nathon Fillion is Hal Jordan, Tim Daly as Superman, Michael Rosenbaum as The Flash, and of course, Kevin Conroy as Batman. It's great to see this unity in voice acting; even if in some cases the voice didn't really match the animated character. Mainly Superman and Batman, who I thought were drawn in no way like their Animated Series counterparts and yet had the voices to match. Small nitpick, but one would think that you'd draw the characters closer to their original counterparts.

The adaptation works well on its own, and adds a lot to the story to not make it a straight up adaption of the original story. My main complaint is the inclusion of Vandal Savage as a replacement for Ras Al Ghul. Savage feels like a poor choice, and doesn't mesh well with the overall story. I liked the inclusion of Bane, and this helps remedy the situation somewhat; but the overall lack of Ras from the story makes it all a little jarring.

All in all, it's a good adaption of the story, but one that was inventive in some ways, and not so much in others. I had some gripes with the style of this particular outing of the JLA, but mainly only in regards to Superman and Batman. It's still a great animated piece, and a great intro to the Tower of Babel story if you've never read it (although after this you'd be a fool not to read it!)
