Top 5 worst casting choices

A collection of the worst casting choices in comicbook movies

Comicbook movies are all the rage today, but if you don't have the right leading man or woman it can cause its destruction of the movie. I've just compiled a list of the worst choices (in my opinion of course!).

5-Topher Grace as venom
When you picture the muscle bound Eddie Brock you don't picture Topher Grace, period. I have no idea what Sam Raimi and co were smoking when they decided to cast him. You could argue that they were going for the ultimate version but the set up was mainstream Brock

4-Halle Berry as catwoman
Of course she has won academy awards but what the hell was she thinking. She must of read something like a script and known that the story was bad, so why do it, also she was already playing storm in the x men franchise. Not so much a performence problem but still...

3-Jessica Alba as Susan Storm
When we think of Sue Storm we think of a great scientific mind within the marvel universe. And when we think of Jessica Alba... In all seriousness her performance was just bland, and not a good bland

2-Kirsten Dunst as Mary Jane
Mary Jane is the super model wife of spider-man. A party animal who thrived at night. The producers must of confused this Mary Jane for a bitch. In the spider-man films we get a whiny character who we are begging him not to save. Seriously what does he see in her?

1- The entire Batman and Robin cast
Do I really need to say more? performences so bad it is still debated whether these were intentional or not.

Thanks for reading!

I'd also add Ryan Reynolds as Green Lantern, Maggie Gyllenhaal as Rachel Dawes, Nicolas Cage as Ghost Rider, Ben Affleck as Daredevil, and Shawn Ashmore as Iceman.

Okay i must say alfred in batman and robin was probably the only good castung choice. He was there since day one and the only fault with him in that movie is what the writers wrote for him. Other than that i agree.

I think what Ramni was going for was someone just as weak as Peter was to begin with who gains spideys strength and the symbiotes strength and becomes stronger than Spider-man. Perhaps wrong desicion but that's what I thought they were going for.

christian bale as batman, toby m as peter parker, the whole daredevil cast, green goblin, brandon r as sups, *shot in the dark* anne h as catwoman, ryan renolds in anything he's been in, NIC CAGE AS GHOST RIDER, seth rogan as green hornet, Madonna in dick tracy, and i'm sure i'm missing a lot.

@runDTC ryan wasnt that bad, wasnt the best, but wasnt bad, you cant count rachel dawes because she wasnt a comic book character to begin with

@jackdexx bale isnt as good as keaton for bats, but he is a great bruce wayne, colin ferrel was a good bullseye, brandon was chosen because he looks like reeves, willem dafoe is the essential gobby, you cant judge anne yet, renyolds was a good deapool in both blade 3 and wolverine origins: wolverine, i agree with the rest

bale is a terrible batman (i don't care about his bruce if he can't do batman)
his best line in TDK "RAWGLERAWRLASNARGLERAWRGURGLE"
I liked that one.

i dislike dafoe because he turned down the goblin suit and made them use the iron man goblin suit.

please do not insult me by saying Ryan Reynolds was a good deadpool.

That is Scott Ackins (I think that is the name of the actor for Barakapool). Ryan Reynolds only appear in the beginning as the REAL Deadpool; wisecracking, always talking, annoying on many levels and have kickass swordman skills. Care to make a valid arguement to what I said?

@RunDTC
Its the movie plot, you are thinking that is bad; Ryan Reynolds was a pretty accurate Hal Jordan (though it is ironic that the comic roles he was in, the movie ended badly in spite of the good acting he gave).
RunDTC
RunDTC - 8/25/2011, 8:10 PM
@BigK1337: no, he was not an acuurate Hal Jordan. Jordan does not walk around make smartass remarks about everything and actually gives a crap about others. Sinestro was the only positive part of the whole movie.

deadpool is funny. he wasn't in any part of the movie funny.
he is suppose to break the fourth wall.
ryan didn't portray his mannerisms.
he is a very physical person.
he is always moving, talking with his hands, super A.D.H.D.
none of which ryan came across as.
he was annoying. i'll give you that, but not in the way he was suppose to be.
gamecreatorjj
gamecreatorjj - 8/25/2011, 8:26 PM
that wasnt renyolds as baraka pool that was scott adkins, he was in the make up with no mouth, ryan was the fellow on team X, i agree he didnt get the mannerisms right, he should have been playing the deapool from blade 3 instead of the one he did in origins, then again he was giving very little screen time

Wow JackDexx I totally agree with you on the Brandon Routh front. That guy's acting is as wooden as an oak tree.

@JackDexx
1. I have to disagree with you on Brandon Routh. The problem with that movie was the plot and storyline. I actually think Routh did a decent job with what he was given. If you want to see him in another role, check out the show Chuck. He does a pretty good job in that.
2. I have to agree with gamecreaterjj in saying that I don't think it's fair to judge Anne Hathaway yet. We haven't even seen any footage of her. A lot of people thought Heath Ledger was a bad choice for the Joker until they saw the movie. Give Anne a chance.
3. So you don't like Ryan Reynolds in Blade Trinity? Finally someone who agrees with me! Yes, I thought he was funny in it, but I don't see a Blade movie in order to laugh. I want to see Blade killing vampires. Period. Also, what I think we got in X-Men Origins: Wolverine was Wade Wilson, not Deadpool. When Wilson was given his healing factor, he began getting the horrible scars and disfigurement to his skin, which Reynolds did not have. Also, Deadpool did not originally know he was a comic book character. His breaking of the fourth wall didn't come along for a little while. (P.S. Have you read the storyline where his inner monologue stops working? It's hilarious!)
4. I will agree with you that Bale isn't the greatest Batman. To me, Keaton is the best.

I disagree with Grace...I thought he was a great choice for Eddie Brock!! The problem was that sh!t script...I was really looking forward to seeing him as Venom, but left extremely disappointed. I don't feel it was his fault though.

Anyways, I still think he could've been great....

APCrazy
APCrazy - 8/26/2011, 3:03 PM
I have a theory about what happened with Spider-Man 3. From what I read, Sam Raimi did not want Venom to be in the third movie. He wanted to stick with the classic/original Spidey villains, which Venom does not fit into. (This could also be the reason he wanted Vulture to be the villain in the short-lived project that was Spider-Man 4.) Sony Pictures, wanting to cash in on Venom's popularity, made Raimi put Venom in the movie. Since Raimi didn't want Venom in the movie, he made sure that Venom sucked. I could be wrong, but that's

bigshow2312 - 8/26/2011, 11:46 PM

I'll have to disagree with choices 2 3 4

Jessica Alba: I dont think it was her fault that she didnt fully match the description of CB Sue Storm: blond hair, blue eyes, pale skin.... race shouldnt matter (jessica is of brown heritage)... I enjoyed her take on the character, especially the sibling relationship between her and chris evans... Her actual look on screen depends heavily on the producers, whom failed to hire the appropriate makeup artist...

Kristen Dunst: Here, her portrayal of Mary Jane and the lines she was given, relied on the screenwriters... whom made the character come off as "whiney"... even so, the female lead should show some backbone, instead of just being saved by the hero all the time and not complain... I mean, who wants to come home to a women that is just complacent all the time about everything, like a robot? After a while itll be dull and boring.... Lets not forget that guys, back in the early 2000, were attracted to Kristen (Bring It on, or what not)... now our perception of "hot" has advanced to a more uncouth direction, she isnt merely appealing now... thats just the way it is... just think that dudes like George Washington thought that women wearing 100 lbs (exaggerating) cloth (dresses) was attractive...

Hale Berry: I was reluctant on accepting her as Catwoman and Storm too, but I realized that Ryan Reynolds played Hannibal King, Deadpool, Hal Jordan and some dude in RIPD... Now that's an example of Overkill! Hale was great for the role, I mean she was empowering and at some points overwhelming, yes?

Batman: From a non-Nolanite perspective, I hope your talking about the 90s version of Batman... let that be a lesson to all the users who would like to see a reboot of the newer version... It wont be as good as the nolan series: youll have like 2 different bruce Waynes and a bunch of campy villains.... its a cycle with warner bros...

I disagree with some. I thought Topher Grace was fine as Eddie Brock, Dunst was great as Mary Jane (although I wouldn't call her hot) and Alba was fine as Storm. As for Berry...the whole movie was a steaming pile anyway. It's the same as Garner. Elektra sucked generally there was little she could do with the part to save it. Brolin is a real talent but could do little to make Jonah Hex credible.

I would add Cage as Johnny Blaze to the top of that list and Tommy Lee Jones as Two-Face. Maybe Affleck, but you know you're going to see a block of wood 'acting' from the outset. Reeves falls into that category for Constantine. The dude who played Balthasar in that movie was hideous "yeah! Finger lickin' goood!...".

When we have such important franchises it always interests me to see why some of these people get main parts (aside from that try are the Hollywood flavour of the month). People actually get paid to cast and screen test people. No wonder the process I lengthy as, so far, they have got their leads down to a T. They build their movie and find the right actor to play that part...not picking Nicholas Cage and building Ghost Rider to suit him.
