Will the Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase 2 be a failure

Marvel have let fans down before in the movie department, the most notable example is Howard the Duck, but in recent years Marvel have been making excellent movies. the question is, will Marvel fail to make their cinematic movie universe work?

First, let's look into the Marvel cinematic universe phase 2 line up.

Ant Man: I'll be honest, this movie spells out disaster, sure Ant Man is a good comic book character, but I honestly cannot see him translating to the big screen, just the title is a turn off, and unlike most MARVEL characters, Ant Man is not very unique, not to mention, his power (Changing size) makes it so that the only real foes in the movie could be an entire army, a giant monster, or something along those lines, if I wanted to see that I would just watch my Godzilla DVD's.

Guardians of the Galaxy: Again, a good comic book, but I can't see them translating well to the big screen. The main reason is the cast of Guardians of the Galaxy laughably kills any character development that could emotionally reach the audience in 2 hours, namely the characters in the cast I am talking about are Groot and Rocket Raccoon. Everytime the movie tries to create emotional tension, the audience is laughing because some guy is giving an emotional speech... to a tree and a raccoon.

Now look at the rest of the movies, they are all sequels (Heck, it's Iron Man's 2ND sequel) and it's not like the characters weren't developed enough in the original movie.

Now what might people want to see in the cinematic that if MARVEL gets a good legal team, could happen?

The Wolverine: coming out in 2013, The Wolverine looks like its going to make up for the crap Origins put us through. Hugh Jackman looks like he actually gets to play the beast, and if MARVEL and FOX and DISNEY can agree, we may be able to see Wolverine in the Marvel Cinematic universe.

Amazing Spiderman 2: Spiderman has a unique situation with MARVEL and SONY, and we know they are already trying to get him in the universe, so hint at it in Amazing Spiderman 2.

Deadpool: Yeah I know, I know, I'm a stupid fanboy, but just imagine it, MARVEL Cinematic universe phase 3, Doctor Strange, Black Panther, and in the end credits scene from Avengers 3 with Wolverine and Spider Man, there is a heart rate monitor next to a computer that says "Subject: Wade Wilson" and then it goes flat, but then it STARTS TO BEAT AGAIN. And then you hear the doctors talking about replacing his eyes, effectively REMOVING the optic blast that he had in Origins.

Howard the Duck? You realize that wasnt made by marvel, right? Everything you said about Wolverine, Spidey, and Deadpool is wishful thinking at best.

Howard the Duck...pshhhhh

Ahh i dont get it. It had nothing to do with phase 2 it was about two movies that you could not see on screen and @marvel72 you should give hulk a 4/5

Actually, I can see how both of these movies GoyG, and Antman could be wildly popular with the general audiences, and be critical and financial powerhouses, so your editorial is pointless... Maybe you cant see it, but I guess thats why you dont work for Marvel, lack of vision

No, I'm fine with watching the sequels of the big 3, GOTG, and Ant-Man. I don't care for Deadpool, and I'd be fine with Spider-Man and Wolverine staying out of the MCU.

I think the writer of this article is confused on how this Marvel/Fox/Sony thing works. Deadpool isn't coming to Marvels universe anytime soon. Unless I missed that news.

I wish Deadpool would be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe but alas it probably won't be so.

@Deadpool- I think Marvel has a better relationship with Sony than Fox cant back up that claim though. But hey nothings impossible id love to see Deadpool and Wolvie in the MCU.

I think GotG could be one of the better of phase 2. Yeah it'll be funny to see Groot and Rocket Racoon, but i think they are so left field that they are instantly likable, people will care.

I recall people saying every single one of the Phase 1 films either wouldn't work or would be a failure. I understand the concern about Antman and GotG but those two have they most potential to be surprising runaway successes as well.

From the descriptions of the Antman teaser, Edgar Wright was very inventive with the effects of him using his powers and from his past directed movies, I know he always delivers something both fun and never really seen in live action. He's been working on the script for years and Marvel hasn't been really asking for an Antman film so if it does get made I'm confident that it'll be something completely different and well done.

As for Guardians of the Galaxy, yes... lots of things can go wrong with this as is true with any movie of any kind. But they can also nail it. Space Epics are severely lacking nowadays or come off very cheesy (GL) but this also is one of the films that could very well reinvigorate the thirst for full on Sci-Fi... of alien landscapes and worlds we've never seen. Creatures of all kinds in featured roles and all over the back ground. Supernatural powers, team dynamic, space craft, humor but still an earnest tone. Star Trek, Star Wars, Dune... Guardians very well could inherit that legacy and eventually be placed within their ranks.

Everything your saying in this article is what people were saying about Marvel Phase 1. I remember when everyone said Thor wouldnt be believable next to iron man, or before Ironman came out people were complaining that it would be a failure. Marvels taking risks by trusting their audience and so far it has worked. Edgar Wright's antman is the movie I'm most looking forward to in phase 2 and I'm excited for the guardians because marvels done good at making what shouldnt work work so far. And you made yourself look dumb by saying Marvel made the howard the duck movie.

AND WHY ALL THE HATE ON IRONMAN 2 I enjoyed it as much as the first one
