While Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone and to an extent Rhys Ifans and Irrfan Khan have excited me about the reboot, no one else confirmed really has. My main objective, however, was to cast Peter and his peers as close to adolescence as possible.
Peter Parker/Spider-Man - Logan Lerman
Originally in the running for the reboot, Lerman would've been a perfect fit for a teenage Peter Parker.
Aunt May Parker - Meryl Streep
While not exactly representative of her comic counterpart, I'd prefer Aunt May to be livelier than the sickly old maid for which she was known.
Uncle Ben Parker - Tim Robbins
Exellent in Shawshank Redemption and resembling Ben Parker more and more with age. He'd bring the necessary warmth, wisdom, and overall presence to such an important figure in Peter's life.
Gwen Stacy - AnnaSophia Robb
A good match for Lerman's Parker, she proved her acting chops as young as 14 in Bridge to Terabithia.
George Stacy - R. Lee Ermey or John C. McGinley
Denis Leary has to be the one casting choice I strongly disagree with for reasons on which I won't elaborate. The better fit depends on whether they went with 616 Stacy, in which case Ermey, or Ultimate Stacy, in which case McGinley.
Harry Osborn - Erik Per Sullivan
Known as the youngest sibling, Dewey on Malcolm in the Middle until the birth of Jamie, he's grown into what would be a fantastic adolescent Harry Osborn.
Flash Thompson - Alex Pettyfer
Casting the physically imposing pretty-boy with a hidden intellect while keeping my objective in mind was incredibly difficult, but I believe Pettyfer would fit the bill.
Liz Allen - Emma Roberts
While she may be a product of Hollywood nepotism, I fail to think of anyone better suited.
Randy Robertson - Donald Glover
Been following him since he was only known for being a part of DerrickComedy on Youtube. I'm willing to let my one rule slide for such a perfect fit.
Mary Jane Watson - Ashley Greene
Stan Lee instructed John Romita Sr. when creating Mary Jane to draw the most beautiful girl he possibly could. I kept this in mind and again missed my objective, but still think she'd be great as the feisty, debonair party girl we know and love MJ for.
Dr. Curt Connors/The Lizard - James Spader
Loved him in Secretary and believe he would've been perfect for a sympathetic yet sinister villain such as the Lizard. It looks like he's going to be a scientist working at Oscorp with Peter and Gwen as interns, or at least I hope.
Martha Connors - Kate Walsh
From what I've seen of her, I think she and Spader would have good chemistry together.
J. Jonah Jameson - Hugh Laurie
More than capable of pulling off the lovable hardass role while adding depth to a role most actors would make very one-note. Jameson's been in the comics since the first issue and plays an integral role in the public's perception of Spider-Man, which perplexes me why they're apparently not using him. He can appear without Peter working for him.
Robbie Robertson - Phil Morris
Morris was hilarious as the lawyer on Seinfeld and would make great banter with Laurie's Jameson
Betty Brant - Mary Elizabeth Winstead
A fan favorite for MJ all around the net, she's closer to Brant's age and wouldn't have to dye her hair (I suppose that last one's a plus?) She's a good actress nonetheless.
Felicia Hardy/Black Cat - Olivia Wilde
Hopefully to be introduced in the sequels to make up for Raimi's missed opportunity.
Norman Osborn/Green Goblin - Sean Bean
Lerman's Percy Jackson castmate and Alec Trevelyan from Goldeneye, one of the best James Bond movies. I'm positive he'd pull off the malevolent villain Norman Osborn needs to be, whether it's the timely white collar criminal or his psychotic alter-ego. Apparently Norman isn't in this reboot, either, but Oscorp is. I'm sure they'll have a hell of a time working around that.
Otto Octavius/Doctor Octopus - David Duchovny
Originally a contender for Spider-Man 2, he's an actor with a wonderful presence whose resume speaks for itself. Would love to see him play the bad guy, especially this bad guy.
Eddie Brock/Venom - James Marsters or Michael C. Hall
My favorite Spidey villain. I hope they do him proper in a sequel to wash the rancid taste of Eric Foreman out of my mouth. Another case of my indecision, these are both highly versatile actors which is exactly what a character like Eddie Brock needs, especially given the colossal potential for greatness in his backstory.
Cletus Kasady/Carnage - Michael Fassabender
The only actor I can think of who would lend gravitas to what is essentially your standard-issue serial killer. He'd be great as the completely irredeemable sociopath that is Carnage that turns Venom into the antihero.
Obviously a number of these characters won't be appearing in this very movie, but I thought I'd cast them anyway.
