FANTASTIC FOUR Sequel Backs Down From STAR WARS EPISODE VIII With New Release Date

The ramifications of Disney's surprising Star Wars Episode VIII release date announcement are already being felt, and while the Batman centric The LEGO Movie spinoff has yet to back down, the Fantastic Four 2 has been delayed. Hit the jump to find out the new release date!

Following the big Star Wars Episode VIII and Rogue One announcement made earlier today (details on that can be found by clicking here), 20th Century Fox has announced that Fantastic Four will now be released a week later than expected on June 9th, 2017 rather than the previously announced June 2nd, 2017. You might not think that a week would make all that much of a difference, but this moves the sequel a whole seven days away from Rian Johnson's entry into the Star Wars franchise,. Ultimately, it's just a smart move to at least give Fantastic Four 2 a fighting chance to hit #1 at the box office. What do you think? Share your thoughts on this news below!

@Aquamanisthebest Saw that comment coming. I'm really hoping this new FF series turns out to be good. Not cause i don't want the FF to go back to Marvel. I do, but hey if we get a good movie then thats always good in my book. Here's hoping.

Fantastic Four 2: the sequel no one is asking for to the reboot that no one is asking for.

I'm assuming Guardians of the Galaxy 2 will be the next movie to move off its release date too.

It'll be moot if FF flops... Which wouldn't be a surprise

Even if they don't want to see how much the first one makes, one week delay isn't going to do much at all. People will still be seeing Star Wars and Lego Batman.

Did anyone ever think about if all of the rights from all of the marvel character that are with different companies that we would be getting a significantly less amount of superhero movies than we do now?

I love marvel, they can do no wrong but they can't do everything.

You know, [frick] the Fantastic Four film.

I mean it, [frick] it. Maybe because Marvel did a double dose of Doom twists in both the 616 universe and the Ultimate universe (with Miles), I want Doom in the MCU. I want to see shit like that happen in the MCU from Doom. It can't happen with just the FF. You need an audience.

Yeah... I don't that one week is a big enough gap to guarantee a #1 spot at the box office. Especially when you're fending off a Star Wars film. Only if Episode VII flops this year will the Fantastic Four sequel even have a fighting chance in 2017.

@TheApostrophe I think we all know that Star Wars is not going to flop. That is like a marvel movie flopping haha. It just wont happen

Okay, sooooo box office predictions for Fantastic Four?

Conservatively, between $300 and $450 million. Optimistically, maybe between $500 and $550 million?

Realistically? No freaking idea. I don't see it flopping though. I kind of enjoy that the honor of the last cbm flop goes to TASM 2

Also Rian Johnson. Sigh, I'm soooo happy he's doing Episode 8 and writing 9 and I believe directing it too.

He was my Spider-Man reboot director pick but to have him in Star Wars.

I personally don't really need the FF4 in the MCU, but I'd like Dr. Doom. Plus I'd like X-Men too. It's nice to want things. Maybe if I'm lucky Fox will make a deal with Disney, like Sony did.

@EzioKenway1225 Interesting! IMO 3 weeks still seems too close, though. I don't think Disney would want to cannibalize their own box office returns, you know? I'd imagine they'll bump up Guardians 2 a few weeks or even a month or so.
