More From Chris Evans on a Fantastic Four Reboot

Chris Evans would be happy to put on "those blue f--ing tights" once again should Fantastic Four get the reboot, especially with a director like Chris Nolan on board.

Recently, while discussing his role in another comic book movie, the adaptation of Bryan Lee O'Malley's Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, actor Chris Evans was asked about the possibility of reprising the role of Johnny Storm/Human Torch if Fantastic Four were to be rebooted. Evans said:

"I guess it would depend. I mean I’m never against revisiting, well I guess I should say not yet, I’m never against revisiting genres or character types. If I played a doctor in one movie I wouldn’t be against playing a doctor again if the director was the right director. I think at the end of the day you’ve got to work with the directors. I do what I do because I like making good movies. It’s fun to act but if you just loved acting alone you could sit in your room and act. You could act in a vacuum. You want to make good products. You want to make good films. I love movies and good movies come from good directors and like I said since there isn’t this massive surplus of films out there, if a good director offers you a chance to make a good movie, you take it even if you say well I just played a character like that. Who cares? You’re a great director. Scott Pilgrim, I played characters similar to that guy but no f--ing way I’m going to say no to this guy. I’m doing your movie. So if Fantastic Four got rebooted and [The Dark Knight director] Christopher Nolan was going to direct it and said do you want to play Johnny Storm again, I’d be in those blue f--ing tights."

If Nolan was to direct a FF movie, I'm pretty sure Chris Evans wouldn't be in it. Nolan would probably use Michael caine as the human torch! lol.

I liked Evans as Johnny Storm. If Nolan directed FF, not only would it improve the film in many ways, hopefully a darker story, definitely a darker doom with, with a deeper voice and accent but I think it would improve Evans as well. I could see something with the Skrulls. But Cameos are a must, Peter Parker should of showed up somewhere in the FF, even a mention of his name by Johnny Storm, or Richards. But I enjoyed Evans in the role, more than I enjoyed Julian McMahon as Victor von Doom.

@Crash: Yeah, McMahon sucked as Doom!

in my opinion, the only other CBM to suck more than these was ghost rider.

hes basically the only one in both movies that fit the role perfectly. all the others were ok for the most part. Jessica Alba was chosen b/c she is hot. Since they picked Ryan Reynolds for Green Lantern. I would cast Chris Evans as The Flash. He is funny and just seems to fit the role for that type of character.

All new cast please! and this time make a CG Thing. The real costume doesnt work anymore. Its not convincing as rock. Wasnt emmersive enough. Johnny Storm wasnt all bad but I personally would like to see another actor take the role to a better place :)

Man... I was so bummed when he said he wouldn't be back for the reboot. He really nailed Johnny Storm. That was one of the few things about those movies I really thought turned out good.

Oh well. Maybe the next guy will be as good but I doubt it. At the time I didn't like McMahon for Doom but he grew on me. No the problem with Doom is not the actor. It's the movie version itself. It's so wrong on so many different levels. And since Doom is such a prominent Marvel chracter, that's a pretty huge screw up.

corndogburgler, you da man and all but do you really think that Ghost Rider was worse than The Human Torch as Super Skrull and Dr. Doom ad Collossus meets Electro? Really? And Cumulactus the planet eating flatulence?

You have to think in terms of scale. If we were to list all the things that were messed up about Ghost Rider and then compared them to a list of everything that was messed up about both FF movies, the FF side would be hundreds of items longer. In terms of the scale level of major screw ups it's really hard to beat FF2. Really only X3 comes close.

Evans was absolutely spot-on as the Torch- so much so, that now when I read the comics I hear Johnny speaking with his voice- I liked Chiklis but he was a bit too short and stocky- and the suit was a little on the shite side. I agree with those above who though McMahon was a poor choice for Doom- what was Tim Story thinking? also what in god's name was smoking when he decided to put a Latina girl in a blonde wig and get her to play caucasian?- that's just weird- like Ben Kingsley as Mohandas Gandhi or Downey Jr in blackface- quite astonishingly wrong

I agree, Evans being cast as Johnny Storm was a high point of the films.

@Laffa: Thanks! And, yeah, I could see him as Flash (Wally West).

yea the first film was ok not great just something you watch when nothing else is on tv the second was just plain trash i'd rather watch battlefield earth and yea giving jessica alba a blond wig and blue eyes just didn't make any sense they should have just gotten jennifer aniston or sharon stone to play that character it wouldn't have made the movies any worse

Any other HUMAN TORCH will just SUCK without him!!!

FOX should just do friggin; FF3 and let MARVEL once they get it back do a friggin' reboot! ; D

I liked ALBA lol!

And he'd be a SH!TE FLASH! If he's gonna do a DC character he should play a completely different character, WALLY and JOHNNY are too much alike, apart from POWERS lol. He needs to get he's teeth into a real completely different role! ; )

everybody on here always says "stick to the source material", well fantastic four did that. its not a dark toned comic like batman. nolan might make a good movie but it would be a horrible fantastic four movie. you either believe movies should stick to the source material or you dont. that applies to all comicbook movies equally.

Eugene Levy for Mole Man-
Don't tell me you can't see it...

The First Director didn't have a Big enough Budget in those moives.

He also falid to bring the Non Stop ACTION/FIGHT SCENCES with the FF...

Thats what was REally missing in those movies.

The Cast was Good...its just lacked the that Epic Action. I didn't like Galatus as a Big Cloud eithr but I appears as though he didn't have a Big enough Budget to really go all out and give us what we really wanted in that.

Hopefully these new FF movies will get a bigger budget since its Nolan.

although I do feel that the impact of the Mole Man may have been somewhat undermined by the..well..Underminer- I would give both legs to see Doom done well- played by a great European actor like Max von Sydow (if only he wasn't too old)- Annihilus would also be ace (and the first person who suggests Ryan Reynolds in any capacity, satirical or otherwise, gets clobbered)

The FF were not my favorite comic to read way back when but I know a lot about the team. These movies were not accurate on several fronts. I was very disappointed with Dr. Doom and Ben Grimm's film versions. It simply shoud not have been allowed. How the hell is Ben smaller than the Torch? Dr.Doom is the ruler of his homeland but there was never any real mention of this. I won't even get into Galactacloud. I'll never believe it was about budget. The studio execs had to put their crappy ideas in and what they think is cool. Let people who care about the characters handle the movies.

I WASNT PARTICULARLY A FAN OF BOTH FF MOVIES (THEY FUKED UP TOO MANY THINGS) IM ALL FOR A REBOOOT, BUT PLEASE DONT LET NOLAN NEAR THIS FRANCHISE, ALTHOUGH I THOUGHT HIS WORK ON THE BATMAN MOVIES WERE BRILLIANT. HE LIKES TO KEEP HIS FILMS AS REAL AS POSSIBLE, I MEAN HE MADE THE JOKER INTO SOME CLOWN THAT PAINTS HIS FACE (LEDGER WAS BRILLIANT THOUGH). THE FF POWERS ARE TOO FANTASTIC TO BE BASED ON REALISM. REALLY GUYS HED RUIN IT NOW GIVE THE FF TO RON HOWARD, OR JAMES CAMERON, OR EVEN GULLIERMO DEL TORO THOSE GUYS UNDERSTAND THE FANTASY ASPECT OF THEIR CHARACTERS. LOOK ANY BODY BUT RHATNNER DA FUKIN HAK

BETA @ Yeah!! ; D

TEABAG @ I'm with you dude! The first two was FUN!!!

FF is supposed to be FUN! Not DARK!

FOX is gonna F this up like their last SUPERHERO movie.

Damn.
l0rdleg0las
l0rdleg0las - 9/14/2009, 1:08 PM
why do so many people want to see every comic book movie go dark?

it worked for Batman because the comics and the character are dark.

Characters like the Fantastic Four and Superman have never been dark like the world of Batman, it would make no sense to change the characters just the current fad in Hollywood is to make characters dark because Chris Nolan made 2 great Batman movies.

Without a doubt the first two FF films were crap! They may have been "fun" (though i found them more like a torture that fun) but they were badly acted, directed and made! The only good part of either film was Chris Evans!

Theres no need to make the FF dark...just make it a little more mature! Mark Waid's run on the FF a few years back is how the FF movie should be!!!

LEE: I love the FF comic books but i really hated the first movie!!! The FF and Doom's origins were handled dreadfully, the story was idiotic and as for the second movie...well, it was definitely better - right up until Doom being healed (dont they realise that the biggest part of the character is his scarred face that he blames Reed for!?!) and 'cloud' Galactus!!!
