Kevin Feige Vows To Do The FANTASTIC FOUR Justice In The Marvel Cinematic Universe

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige confirmed that a new Fantastic Four movie is on the way on Saturday at Comic-Con, and he's now promised to finally get Marvel's First Family right on the big screen.

The Fantastic Four have been the stars of three terrible comic book movies, but with the rights now back at Marvel Studios, we know that the foursome will soon return to the big screen with a creative team who knows how to get characters from the Marvel Universe right.

At Comic-Con, Kevin Feige was asked about what stories he plans to tell featuring these iconic characters, and while he wasn't willing to give away any specifics, he did promise that Marvel Studios will do the heroes justice.

"All of that is spoilers," he says, "but I'm extremely excited about those characters, and about bringing Marvel's first family up to the sort of platform and level they deserve."

That's going to be music to the ears of many fans, and it's about time we see a proper version of the Fantastic Four on screen. Characters like Doctor Doom and Galactus are also in desperate need of a reboot, and could be the new big bads of the Marvel Cinematic Universe moving forward.

What do you hope the future holds in store for Marvel's First Family in the MCU?

Fantastic Four completely fits the tone of the MCU. If they can avoid making Doctor Doom another throwaway villain, this movie will be great. I really wish they could cast Mads Mikkelsen again.

@Darkknight2149 - I like to think they know that Doom is a mainstay villain and not a one-and-done character.

I mean, he's the ruler of his own country and has been a great to the entire Marvel Universe many times over.

I want to see him all over the place. When Galactus comes to earth I want to see him try to steal Big G's Power Cosmic. If the X-Men do Onslaught sometime years from now I want to see Doom help the heroes defeat him, for his own reasons of course.

I could even see them making Galactus look like the Big Bad, Doom helps defeat him, but then when Galactus is defeated Doom steals his powers and becomes the new Big Bad in the same film.

There is so much potential for Doom to the best villain of all time in the MCU. There's no way they use him as a throwaway.

@Darkknight2149 - Mads would have been perfect. Nevertheless I hope they save Doom for later, and let him be a major force within the entire MCU. Let Mole Man or something be the FFs first villain.

the perfect Doctor Doom, but if they dont want him he would also make a great Joker

I have no doubts. I fully expect them to knock it out of the park and give the first family their due at long last.

And I can’t wait to see her kick some ass:

I'm sure we'll start seeing minor ripples from the Fox stable almost immediately, and there's likely to be something X-related by 2022 or 2023. Feige likes taking in birds with broken wings, so as far as headliner material, the Fantastic Four may be the first (and cameos may even be integrated into a Black Panther 2 or something).

I don't think a lot of fans have the patience for the amount of time this stuff legitimately takes to go from "here's the grain" to "freshly baked bread". It's not just the time spent in the oven of production, it's the grinding the flour, mixing the dough, that you don't often see that does take some time, too. Or at least, it should. Some studios do greenlight a movie out of the blue and expect it to be shooting in two months.

By "something X-related", I don't mean a titled X-Men film. I mean some character or concept woven into material released in 2022 or 2023. For a fully formed X-team in a title role, maybe a year or two after that. (Which sounds so far away, I know, I'm impatient, too, but it's part of the process.)

@Spock0Clock - I think Eternals will be our first mention of Mutants.

Eternals has the potential to be something really special in the way of introducing new concepts, both cosmic and earthbound. They already showed that the Celestials will play some part in it, and in Earth X the Celestials were the ones that created Mutants. So I can easily see a connection there.

The Celestials did something on Earth millions of years of ago. They implanted humanity with a gene-seed that would cause humans to begin getting born with powers at some point in the future. Then, in present day MCU, we start to see those gene-seeds waking up in people. It could be a perfect way to introduce Mutants.
Spock0Clock
Spock0Clock - 7/22/2019, 3:38 AM
@CorndogBurglar - It is a very compelling theory. Mutant powers are very "Deviant-like" in how they aren't directly inherited and seem somewhat random. If Celestials intended the Fourth Host (or whichever Host it is, I get confused) to be one where the Eternals, Deviants, and Humans all stand on some kind of equality, mutants could have been intended as the humans' champions or something.
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 7/22/2019, 3:46 AM
@Spock0Clock - Or in Earth X, its revealed that an infant Celestial is incubating inside Earth (since that's how new Celestials are born). Its also revealed that the planets that give off the energy that Galactus needs to feed on are planets with Celestials at the core.

So when the Celestials "impregnate" a planet they also alter the gene's of the planets inhabitants to become protectors of the planet from outside threats.......like Galactus.

All of that pretty much sets the tone for everything. It gives a reason to explain Mutants in the MCU. It gives a reason for Galactus to come to Earth. It ties it all together.

I feel like they would be missing a huge opportunity by not going that route.
Spock0Clock
Spock0Clock - 7/22/2019, 3:52 AM
@CorndogBurglar - I often forget that Earth X is a thing.
Makiveli21
Makiveli21 - 7/22/2019, 6:32 AM
@CorndogBurglar - do you think the origin of mutants will be one of those cases where they go the "ultimate" route for the movies? I think the ultimate comics had mutant genes come from super soldier experiments?
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 7/22/2019, 6:51 AM
@Makiveli21 - What's up Makiveli. I remember you from way back in the day. It's been a while since I've seen you. One of the few people that actually knows comics.

Anyway, yeah I think the Ultimate comics had something to do with that. I was never a big fan of the Ultimate universe. But I really really hope they don't go that route.

I would prefer it to either be a natural evolutionary change, or what I mentioned above about the Celestials.

The cool thing about the Celestials route is that the people on Earth would still THINK it was just natural evolution. They would have no reason to know about the Celestials. That would be something more for the viewers to know.

Either way, my perfect MCU X-Men would be that mutants have existed for the entire MCU, but they are in hiding and don't have large numbers yet. The Government knows about them but has helped keep them secret. The X-Men exist as a home to help people just learning about their powers. Then Sinister manipulates Trask in the government to create Sentinels and out mutants to the world, in a way that makes them seem dangerous.

That leads to Magneto coming out of hiding and getting pissed about humans hating mutants and the creation of Sentinels.

It can be revealed that Sinister was doing all of this to start a war between humans and mutants as a test for when Apocalypse arrives.

I know people are all caught up on the fact that we haven't seen or heard about mutants in the MCU, so they expect an origin of sorts explaining where they've been. But remember, Blade is coming out too, and not one word has been mentioned about vampires either. Just because vampires and mutants haven't been mentioned yet doesn't mean they aren't there...

@CorndogBurglar - I totally agree with this theory
PeterSparker

@CorndogBurglar - Mutants are not like Vampires. They are not a monolithic species, they are not a single nation. They are random people (mostly adolescents) who randomly develop Uncanny abilities. I'm tired of seeing "uhhh mutants were in hiding" theory because it's a blatant misunderstanding of what mutants are and how the X-Gene works. They CAN'T "hide" from society. That's like trying to hide the existence of dogs or cats. Now imagine if those animals had the power to level a city block with a thought.

This was actually a point of contention in X-Men: Red. When Jean Grey tried to establish the "mutant" nation. The UN was against it because of the fact that mutants are not a monolith like Wakanda. They are random and all oger the world

@CorndogBurglar - I like the idea that they have always been around but their numbers have always been relatively low. However, the snap is a trauma that causes to latent X gene to become active and they start popping up in greater numbers, emboldening some in hiding to come out of the shadows.

@Spock0Clock - they threw a fully integrated Captain Marvel with 25 years of experience into Endgame with 1 movie and 1 after credit scene. If they want to put a rush on Xmen and the F4, they can.

@CorndogBurglar -
Maybe it has something to do with the empty receptors that Killian showed to Pepper when he was showing off his big brain. Eternals will introduce the concept that humans have a built in ability to go all super human.
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 7/22/2019, 10:08 AM
@PeterSparker - Mutants are not like dogs and cats lol. You can't hide their existence because nothing else LOOKS like dogs and cats. Most mutants look exactly like humans except for a few with defects caused by being a mutant.

Mutants would be in hiding because of incidents of ignorant people attacking the ones that look different. A regular looking mutant wouldn't cause much concern because the world knows about powered humans like the Avengers. So seeing someone use some powers in public isn't exactly something new. But your point about them being all over the world and not a single nation would be a cause for some of the normal looking mutants to get attacked also, because some would undoubtedly use their powers for crime.

When I say they are in hiding it's more like because Mutants in general haven't been outed to the public yet. No one knows what they are or that they could be the next level of evolution. So the few incidents of mutants being attacked stem mostly from being different and misunderstood, which is something we see in real life all the time.

The X-Men would exist as something of an outreach program at first to help people cope with their powers and their first movie would be their first actual mission as a super hero team. This is how they can easily be adults also and not a team of teenagers.

Basically what I'm saying is once mutants get outed to the public as a "threat" is when humans really become concerned and why we haven't heard about mutants up to this point.

Also, the Vampires in Blade have plenty of rogue vampires acting on their own. They are not one giant nation. The entire plot of the first Blade movie was about a group of rogue vampires that didn't give a shit if people learned about them.

Hearing Feige say the name

Also, the fact that he already knows how he's going to integrate them to the degree that he's already got his "everything is a spoiler" message ready to go, means that we're going to likely see seeds for them planted in Phase 4

Its possible he might put them on Disney+. I wouldn't mind, it gives them more time/freedom to do something different and care for the characters.
