Harold Ramis' Death Will Not Halt GHOSTBUSTERS III

Yesterday, Harold Ramis, who played Dr Egon Spengler in both Ghostbusters films, passed away. His death left many fans of the franchise wondering if progress on Ghostbusters III would grind to a halt. New info today says, it will not.

According to the Hollywood Reporter the Ghostbusters III script that is being currently being written by The Office writers Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky will have to be reworked based on Harold Ramis' death, but the film is still a go. A project insider told THR, "There will be some repercussions."
A studio source downplayed the impact on the project, however, insisting that Ramis was involved in Ghostbusters III only minimally. Ramis, who co-wrote the first two Ghostbusters, held a first-dollar gross stake in the third film along with Reitman, Aykroyd and Murray -- a position that will revert to his estate. But no deals have been inked yet, and there have been signs that the principals instead would take break-even cuts in order to get the film off the ground.

Their source goes on to say, "He was always great to bounce something off of, and that will certainly be missed. But it won't affect the script."

Er... it better be good than. IMO, and this maybe just me, cancel the film altogether.

Im sure Ramis would have wanted to see the movie move forward and if his role was minimal/cameo then I guess there isn't a major issue.

With Ramis gone and Murray not involved im not 100% on board with this, but hopefully it turns out well

Ghostbusters 3, with minimal Egon and no Venkman? Why was this moving forward again? As it stands, with Mr. Ramis passing, they shouldn't be keeping on at all.

Lets just hope they do not bring back Bobby Brown to do another song for the movie.........

Harold Ramis' death is just too fresh in my mind to talk about Ghostbusters 3, and this comes from someone who has wanted this movie to be made in the worst way. I just hope that however things go, that there is respect to the original cast and NO reboot. If it is a reboot, I will pass 100%.

RIP Harold Ramis...

No... lame. And yeah, Murry should've stopped acting a fool years ago and got this made. Seems to late now...

If handled right I don't think using a CGI ghost of Ramis' character would be in bad taste. I'd give anything to see a CGI ghost version of my dad showing up to save the day at a climatic moment in a movie. Hell I'm tearing up right now just thinking about it....dammit...stupid imagination.

If Murray's heart wasn't in it, I am glad he decided not to come back. His dramatic roles have been fantastic. I'll take the following over a halfassed Ghostbusters 3 any day.

Let Ghost Busters stay a memory. No Ramis and Bill Murray won't do it. It's not worth it.

Bring on the film and make Egon's ghost the villain. Hire medium to broker the deal.
