Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is the movie that just won't quit. After
surpassing Spider-Man: Homecoming in the global box office last week, new estimates suggest the Sony reboot/sequel now has a chance to top $900 million worldwide.
According to Deadline,
Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle has grossed $895.37 million through Friday ($371.57M domestic / $523.8M international). Factoring in Saturday and Sunday grosses, it's believed the blockbuster film will now cross $900 million worldwide - and it has still yet to debut in Japan.
The international estimate for the three-day weekend will bring the int’l cume to $526.9M with domestic at $377.4M. That puts the jungle juggernaut at an estimated $904.3M through Sunday.
Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle has had an incredible run at the box office, surpassing all expectations with its earnings. The film currently sits in the No. 5 spot in 2017's worldwide charts, ahead of films such as Spider-Man: Homecoming, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Thor: Ragnarok, Justice League, and Logan. It also resides in the No. 5 spot in the domestic charts, trailing Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Wonder Woman.
With this weekend's box office factored in, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is now Sony's second highest grossing film of all time at the global box office, trailing only Skyfall ($1.1 billion). It surpassed Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 3 ($890.9 million) this weekend. It's also the studio's second highest grossing film domestically, behind only Raimi's original Spider-Man ($403.7 million).
Simply put: Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle has been an absolute beast for Sony and there will almost certainly be high expectations for the sequel.
