Don't always have a go and the film industry, the cast and crew of up-coming The Lord of the Rings prequel The Hobbit have offered their assistance in any way to the people of New Zealand in the aftermath of the Earthquake.

Although the quake did not itself affect the production fo the film directly several of the crew members are from Christchurch and were thusly rather worried about what had happened.

Peter Jackson, who is currently under "house-arrest" due it his recent operation, had this to say: "Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Christchurch and all those affected by this terrible tragedy".

Many of the survivors of the quake have been evacuated to Wellington where The Hobbit filming is taking place.
