Manu Bennett Looks Ahead To ARROW Season 2

Spartacus and Arrow star Manu Bennett looks ahead to Season 2 of The CW's Arrow. "...I know by what I’ve been told and the way that the character is already started to curve in the second season that [Slade Wilson's] gonna be as big [of] a challenge as an acting role as what Crixus was."

Arrow Manu Bennett Death Storke

Actor Manu Bennett discusses the difference between his Spartacus character Crixus and his Arrow character, Slade Wilson aka Deathstroke the Terminator. Said Bennett, "The thing about ‘Arrow’ is ‘Arrow’s’ very contemporary and I’m a contemporary soldier and Slade Wilson will disarm you and kill you in a matter of seconds, whereas Crixus, you’ve got to go into an arena for a two hour battle and the strikes are way up in the air — ‘Roar!’… Really, Slade Wilson is just a modern creation. So I’ve sort of leapt from 74 B.C. to the present. … I’ve leapt through a portal in time and come out the other end as another dangerous adversary to a lead character, but in the same way as Crixus, Slade is a dark hero."

And what exactly does Season 2 of Arrow have in store for Slade Wilson? "I’m really excited because when I first started with ‘Arrow’ … it was a different pace, a different tone. It was just more sort of factual and modern. … It’s already bigger than ‘Spartacus’ in terms of viewership, and being part of a franchise like that, it’s really gonna sort of help me build an even stronger future in this industry," said Bennett. He continued, "And also, Slade Wilson, I know by what I’ve been told and the way that the character is already started to curve in the second season that he’s gonna be as big [of] a challenge as an acting role as what Crixus was and I think I can give him a lot of the light and shade that Crixus had, that I know the audience loves and appreciated in my performance as Crixus. So I think I’m again on a winning role and I can’t wait to embrace it further. I’m riding the tip of the arrow (laughs)."

"After a violent shipwreck, billionaire playboy Oliver Queen was missing and presumed dead for five years before being discovered alive on a remote island in the Pacific. When he returns home to Starling City, his devoted mother Moira, much-beloved sister Thea, and best friend Tommy welcome him home, but they sense Oliver has been changed by his ordeal on the island. While Oliver hides the truth about the man he’s become, he desperately wants to make amends for the actions he took as the boy he was. Most particularly, he seeks reconciliation with his former girlfriend, Laurel Lance. As Oliver reconnects with those closest to him, he secretly creates the persona of Arrow – a vigilante – to right the wrongs of his family, fight the ills of society, and restore Starling City to its former glory. By day, Oliver plays the role of a wealthy, carefree and careless philanderer he used to be – flanked by his devoted chauffeur/bodyguard, John Diggle – while carefully concealing the secret identity he turns to under cover of darkness. However, Laurel’s father, Detective Quentin Lance, is determined to arrest the vigilante operating in his city. Meanwhile, Oliver’s own mother, Moira, knows much more about the deadly shipwreck than she has let on – and is more ruthless than he could ever imagine."

Well he does play Azog in The Hobbit prequels. And the show is not that bad IMO. Started off slow, then was inconsistent but the last sprint towards the finale was epic.

This guy is awesome in person. Really nice and humble. He deserves great success.

For some reason I keep thinking Stallone should have him in an Expendables flick

Yeah, they are all here saying how they hate it, but once the show is on again, they will scurry back into the shadows. Really hope Manu gets to wear the mask soon, such a great visual character.

Other things to watch out for:
Amanda Waller will be exist here and possibly build Suicide Squad which consists of Deadshot and Bronze Tiger. I wonder if she's going to be the head of A.R.G.U.S and build connection with a DCCU future movies.

I should be checking this out! Feel it's a bit too Smallville for me. If they were to bring in Waller and begin with an arc that forms Suicide Squad I might have no choice but to watch. I dig what they've done with Slade Wilson and Deadshot as far as trying to build their design from the books.

Since no one really gives legitimate reasons for disliking the show I figure I might as well.

I was apprehensive going in when I first watched it. It was clear they were just trying to apply Nolan's take on Batman to Green Arrow. But film and television are totally different mediums. And now they're backtracking and implementing superpowers because apparently no one had the foresight to think that "Hey, there's only a limited number of interesting non-superpowered characters we can introduce without every one looking the same"

There's a little too much melodrama too. Some of the dialogue sounds very soap opera-ish and some of the characters have no personality (Laurel, I'm looking at you). And don't get me started on Roy "I'm from the other side of the tracks and poor, yet still seem to afford an American Apparel-ish wardrobe" Harper.

But it's The CW, so I guess I should lower my expectations a bit.

Good show, great actor. Honestly he steals all the scenes he's in. I really want him to continue to play Deathstroke perhaps even in the DC movie universe.

I think the soap opera and drama, give the show a broader appeal to improve ratings, which all shows need to ultimately survive. It's a perfect mix of action and drama, enough action to get the male viewers, and enough drama to keep the female viewers.

Slade needs to have an arc from friend to foe but I hope it doesn't take too long.
I want full on Deathstroke mode & Manu can deliver.
If the writers are smart enough & allow Slade to become a great nemisis for Oliver.

They better not pull a Smallville and make Slade's journey to Deathstroke waaaay too long. Preferrably I'd want him to become Deathstroke THIS season.
