Recently while chatting with Telegraph, Martin Campbell - who's directed films such as Goldeneye, Casino Royale (2006), and next week's Green Lantern - explains what attracted him to directing a super hero film for the first time, and also labels what the most difficult parts of filming the project - the special effects and finding the right tone.

I did it because I’d never done a superhero movie before. And they’re complicated. I had no idea. You accept these jobs and then you realise you’re in the quicksand. It was an extraordinary learning curve, conceptualising the characters, going to another planet, deciding what the planet looks like and keeping a sort of reality, if you can call it that. The most difficult thing, apart from the damned effects, which are so time-consuming, is finding a tone and keeping the reality of it.

Green Lantern hits theaters June 17th, a week from tomorrow!

Like I said before, Campbell knows how to tell a story. Unlike joe johnson.

I think it's going to play out like this for the best CBM's this year. -Note this is IN MY OPINION. ;)

1.) Green Lantern
2.) X-Men: First Class
3.) Thor
4.) Captain America.

Cap could surprise me though, as FC did.

"It was more of an honor to make Thor. Putting the God of Thunder on the silver sceen was payment enough. "

@Intruder "Yeah. Marvel Studios are cheap bastards. They probably just offered him a Gift Card at Wal-Mart. It was more of an honor to make Thor. Putting the God of Thunder on the silver sceen was payment enough.
Campbell probably had his children held hostage for him make a movie about a green space cop and a giant mustard fart."

if you keep sucking on that thing harder maybe something will come out!

@CeltiC527 I really hope he reconsiders doing the sequel. Other directors are competent enough to do this, sure, but I want consistency with style

I just really hope this isn't complete sh1t. WB/DC is going to get steamrolled by Marvel if this doesn't take off, especially with this Batman and HP run ending.

This has the potential to be great

why?

Campbells doing the same thing he did for the bonds-he made a spectacular first movie and backed out basically saying to the next movie in line, 'do better, because i know you wont'

Can't wait for GL. almost a week away! :D

Martin Campbell is awesome. It was a suprprise for me learning that he would be directing this movie, but after how well his 2 Bond films turned out, I was sold on him from day 1! This movie is going to be epic and we will have Martin Campbell to thank for a lot of that epicness!

This movie is going to be great! GL & CA:TFA will be the top two movies of the summer without a doubt. Can't wait to watch both to see who wins the top spot. Thor was disappointing.

I doubt Campbell would be back for a sequel. He sounded like he went through hell making this one. Hope he does come back though. But his track record states that he avoids sequels. Let's see if he would continue that stupid trend.

I'm REALLY looking forward to this movie! PLEASE Warner Brothers - don't disappoint me!!! On a less hyper note, Campbell seems like he's just the right director for this. What he said about the tone was spot-on; glad to know that somebody agrees with me. In my opinion, the tone in a film is the most important thing, rivaled only by the actor/actress's talent.
