Kurt Russell Talks About His Role In GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Vol. 2 And His Marvel Future

Kurt Russell plays Star-Lord's father, Ego the Living Planet, in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, but are there more MCU appearances in Russell's future following the film's May 5, 2017 release date?

Kurt Russell spoke with Fandango at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) to promote his upcoming feature, Deepwater Horizon, but also fielded a couple of questions regarding his role in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.  Russell obviously kept specifics to a minimum but did tease the following about the plot.  "Kids always put their parents on a pedestal.  Well, what happens when they don't turn out to be the people you want them to be?"  He also stated, "We had a great time on that film -- it was a lot of fun. Great experience. That guy James Gunn really knows what he's doing; he's real sharp. And all the cast is great -- I had a great time working with Chris [Pratt]."

As far as his future with Marvel is concerned, Rusell was even less forthcoming.  As of right now, it sounds as if his role as Ego the Living Planet might be one-and-done unless there's a solid reason to return.  "What you'd have to do is put your mind to it.   You have to sit down and say, these are my issues -- these are my questions. I'm an audience too. We all run into our own integrity no matter what, as much as I hate to admit it. I need to find a way that this is going to grow and be fun and most of all for me it needs to be fun to find as we go along. Right now I got part of it -- we have to see. I don't know. I don't know if I fit into that mold."

What do you think of the casting and the humanoid costume Russell will sport in the role?  Despite the character's rather large size (as evidenced by his name), Ego the Living Planet has the ability to create human-like avatars which might explain why Star-Lord's mom described his father as an Angel of Light in the first feature.

ABOUT GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY
The first group to use the name Guardians of the Galaxy were assembled by Gene Colan and Arnold Drake and debuted in 1969 with a roster that consisted of Vance Astro, Martinex, Charlie-27 and Yondu.  In 2008, a new lineup of spacefaring superhero teams began calling themselves the Guardians of the Galaxy.  Assembled by Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning, affectionately known as DnA, the initial roster consisted of Star-Lord, Rocket Raccoon, Quasar, Adam Warlock, Gamora, Drax the Destroyer, and Groot. It was this new run and lineup that would serve as the inspiration for James Gunn's 2014 feature film adaptation for Marvel Studios.

MOVIE SYNOPSIS:  Set to the backdrop of ‘Awesome Mixtape #2,’ Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team’s adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill’s true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes’ aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.

Warlock should've been his dad

@MarvelDCAllDay - Agreed, however i get the feeling that Warlock will be introduced as a villain 'Magus' for Infinity War Part 1 - he'll probably be defeated via the Soul Stone (Which is going to be introduced in the movie preceding Avengers Infinity War, Thor Ragnarok)

Then when Magus is defeated, Adam Warlock will split from him and join the group for Part 2 when they fight Thanos. Though i doubt he'll have the Soul Stone stuck to him

@MarvelDCAllDay - @Scarilian

Still hoping for Ego to be some kind of prison form Warlock was turn into, similar to his soul stone imprisonment in the comics.

@JohnnyTBP - Well considering Magus was originally mentioned to be one of the villains in Infinity War (At the time Part 1) its possible we'll see Magus introduced and then Adam Warlock splitting from him thanks to the Soul Stone that's going to be introduced in Thor Ragnarok.

@Scarilian - That could be the case. Doesn't The Collector have the cocoon?

Is it going to be a Wizard of Oz scenario, where the planet is a machine of sorts controlled by a normal guy?
