More than 100 reviews for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 have been counted on Rotten Tomatoes since the embargo lifted on Friday, and that 91% score has gradually declined over the past 48 hours.
As we write this, the threequel has a respectable 78% that, unfortunately, means it's the lowest-rated instalment of the trilogy. Guardians of the Galaxy has 92%, while Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 received 85%. Vol. 3 remains in the "Certified Fresh" range (which is 75% and above), but what's gone wrong since those first reviews blasted online a couple of days ago?
It appears the movie's harder-hitting moments aren't sitting well with those who wanted to have a good time with this group of A-Holes. Based upon the critic reviews superhero fatigue also seems to be an issue as some seem to not be interested in the genre.
That being said, there are plenty of critics who clearly had a great time...
As for Vol. 3's current Critics Consensus, it reads: "A galactic group hug that might squeeze a little too tight on the heartstrings, the final Guardians of the Galaxy is a loving last hurrah for the MCU's most ragtag family."
In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, our beloved band of misfits are looking a bit different these days. Peter Quill, still reeling from the loss of Gamora, must rally his team around him to defend the universe along with protecting one of their own. A mission that, if not completed successfully, could quite possibly lead to the end of the Guardians as we know them.
Gunn writes and directs Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, featuring Vin Diesel as Groot, Bradley Cooper as Rocket, Sean Gunn, Chukwudi Iwuji, Will Poulter, and Maria Bakalova.
Kevin Feige is the producer and Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Nikolas Korda, Simon Hatt, and Sara Smith serve as executive producers.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 arrives in theaters on May 5, 2023.
