Last week was a sad day for Hellboy fans as the beloved character had his heart ripped out..literally. After 18 years at Dark Horse and 2 great movies from Guillermo Del Toro, Hellboy's creator Mike Mignola felt it was time for Big Red to call it a day.

Here are some excerpts from Mignola's interview with Newserama..

Newsarama: Mike, it was pretty rough for us Hellboy fans to see his heart ripped out of his chest.

Mike Mignola: Well, if it was rough, we did it right. It shouldn't be easy.

Nrama: It gives you hope in the end because there's a Hellboy in Hell series coming. Was this always the plan?

Mignola: It was almost from the beginning. A million years ago, I don't remember exactly, but I was conceiving this thing as a book that would eventually go in this direction.

... You know, it was very strange. It's one thing to say -- and I've been saying it for a long time -- that I'm going to kill him or I'm going to take his eye out. I would say, "Yeah, one of these days I'm going to do that." But it's very strange when you get to the point where you say, "Oh, I'm doing that today."

So it's strange when you write it. It's strange when the artist draws it. And it's even stranger when it's finally published.

I also had a moment where I had turned a corner and it was a realization that I can't turn back. I know some comics do that, where they kill the guy and brought him back, or they broke his back, but now he's OK again. But with Hellboy, I want to avoid that kind of stuff. So when I pop his eye out, his eye is gone. And when I kill him, he's dead.

But although he may be dead, Hellboy will still have stories to tell as his spirit lingers in the underworld. Hellboy In Hell will be a new ongoing series that launches in 2012 with writing and art by Mignola. For more details click the link below and read the full interview.

WHAT THE HELL!?! You can't kill HELLBOY! He's one of the all time greats. They are gonna have no chance but to bring him back...soon. Every hero comes back... Superman, Wonder Woman, Captain America, Thor, Odin, Martian Manhunter, Aquaman, Hal Jordan, and now Johnny Storm is coming back. Thor is dead "again". But he's gonna come back. Marvel should of killed off Ironman instead of Thor.

"When he dies he DIES"!! Yeah right! that guy is so full of it! He "kills" Hellboy off to start with his adventures in hell.... lol... sure..that's "DEAD" indeed!!
And he has the nerve to throw cracks at other characters that have been dead and brought back.... lol as if that's any different from killing off a characters then follwing his adventures in another reality!!
What a hypocrite! If you're such a master of..ahem "realism" and "Death is DEATH" for your character then the series should have simply ended with Hellboy's death!

He dies a week ago, which means if you are a Hellboy comic fan you knew, and if your not, what do you care! So no, I don't consider it a spoiler.
