BOX OFFICE: Fire Bad, I, FRANKENSTEIN's Opening Weekend Worse

I, Frankenstein, the film based on the graphic novel by co-scripter Kevin Grevioux had a rocky debut. It's battling another box office disappointment for fifth place, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit. Ride Along topped the box office for the second weekend.

I, Frankenstein is having a disastrous debut. It was expected to have an $11 to $14 million opening weekend, but it appears the film will fall short of even those low estimates, with $7.75 million. The film is now destined to join 47 Ronin as the latest film to flop in 2014. The budget is estimated to be around $60 million, and that is not including marketing costs. There is a bit of good news, audiences gave the film about Frankenstein's monsters battling gargoyles and demons a B Cinemascore. Better than what Martin Scorsese's Wolf of Wall Street (C) and Spike Jonze's Her (B-) received. Scary!

In other box office news: the comedy Ride Along, which stars Ice Cube and Kevin Hart, will pull in $20.5 million this weekend, taking first place in consecutive weekends. It experienced a 51% from last weekend, and now has earned an impressive $74.8 million. Lone Survivor is also doing well at the box office, with a solid $12.2 million. That put the military film in second place in it's fifth weekend.

1). Ride Along, (UNI) 2,759 theaters (+96) / $6.3M Fri. (-57%) / 3-day Cume: $20.5M / Wk 2

2). Lone Survivor, (UNI) 3,131 theaters (+142) / $3.6M Fri. (-48%) / 3-day Cume $12.3M/ Wk 5

3) The Nut Job (OPRD) 3,427 theaters (+45) / $2.5M Fri. (-43%) / 3-day Cume: $11.2M to $11.4M/ Wk 2

4). Frozen, (DIS) 2,757 theaters (-222) / $2M Fri. (-27%) / 3-day Cume: $9.1M / Wk 10

5/6). I, Frankenstein, (LGF) 2,753 theaters / $2.8M Fri. / Estimated 3-day Cume: $7.75M / Wk 1

Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit (PAR) 3,387 theaters (0) / $2.6M Fri. (-51%) / 3-day Cume: $7.77M / Wk 2

7). American Hustle, (SONY) 2,304 theaters (+100) / $1.9M Fri. (-35%) / 3-day Cume: $6.9M / Wk 7

8/9). August: Osage County, (TWC) 2,411 theaters (+360) / $1.4M Fri. (-36%) / 3-day Cume: $5.2M / Wk 5

The Wolf Of Wall Street, (PAR) 1,804 theaters (-126) / $1.4M Fri. (-32%) / 3-day Cume: $5.1M / Wk 5

10). Devil’s Due (FOX) 2,544 theaters (0) / $906KM Fri. (-74%) / 3-day Cume: $2.7M / Wk 2

I'd be okay with no new movies in January. Maybe nothing but re-released classics upgraded for the big screen.

I think Aaron Eckhart and think he is an amazing actor, but this has looked bogus from the beginning. Haven't really planned on seeing it.

No surprise being that the special effects are horrid and it's PG13.

yeah, its january, the shittiest month of the year imo,i heard jack ryan was the only average-good film in this crappile of a month, i actually want to see that since i like a good spy film, next month i want to see the lego movie and robocop next month, march is filled with movies such as need for speed, divergent, muppets most wanted, 300 rise of an empire and Noah, none of which really appeal to me,the only one im really excited to see within the 3 months or so is Cap 2

@PrinceOfCrime: Really, don't waste your time or money. I saw it yesterday, and luckily I went to a matinee. It was like I was watching a SYFY channel movie. Wait for it on DVD. I watched JLA: WAR and enjoyed that so much more than this flick. -just my two cents-

Lone Survivor is worth multiple viewings. I generally dislike war/military movies especially those involving terrorism but this is a tale of heroism.

January and February - December releases with Oscar contenders and the previous year independent films at a lower rate. Studios can take a break from dumping these movies after the holidays and focus on award season. March should see the return of new releases gearing up for the summer movie season. These movies that would be released in Jan-Feb could be released in Sep-Oct each year, probably helping the bottom line for each studio because they won't have mid-budget movies failing to capture an audience yearly in the year. My two cents.

Mostly kiddie cartoons in the top four, but who'd go see a non-genre-parody film that featured its protagonist saying the tired, joke of a cliche line, "This ends tonight" as the only spoken part of the trailer? Certainly, The Jack Ryan film has to be a lot better than this thing.
