Robert Downey, Jr. Keeps an Iron Man Head at Home

The title star of Iron Man 2 said that he took the movie "more seriously than any other movie," but he's stil waiting for his own personal suit of armor.

Considering actor Robert Downey, Jr. (RDJ) has two Academy Award nominations under his belt, his recent comments about Iron Man 2 should be thought of as highly complimentary to comic book movie fans:

"It's mind-blowing to me because I'd always felt like I wanted to - and could - do something like this. I have probably taken Iron Man 2 more seriously than any other movie I've ever done, which is appropriately ridiculous for Hollywood."

RDJ admitted that he helped himself to a bit of coolness from the set of his superhero flicks:

"I have an Iron Man head at home and various other bits downstairs but my home isn't a shrine to Iron Man. But I think it's cool."

RDJ went on to say that he's still waiting for his request for a full suit of armor to be granted:

"The producers keep telling me that they're going to give me a suit with all the bells and whistles but I still don't have it. I don't know, maybe I should get it in my contract. It would be great to have one at home - a talking point."

BTW, when I interviewed RDJ at SDCC '09 I asked him if he had a suit of armor and he said that it would be cool, but a little ostentatious. I guess he changed his mind.

And, yeah, how sick would it be to have your own suit at home!?!

Well fact he said it would be a talking point (and only that) shows that even though he takes his work way serious and loves it, his home is still his home and not a shrine to his work. (which I think is awesome). RDJ has it going for him and keeps a level head about him. I wish more actors were this way, then our cbms (and Hollywood) would be a lot more effective

@elephantknowsbest: I'm 5'10" and we were at about eye-level when we met. Of course, he was bouncing around on his toes so it was hard to gauge...

@teabag: Thanks! Yeah, seems like it. Where have you been? Haven't 'seen' you in a while?

Cool stuff Brent!

I could see him bouncing around. After he quit the drugs and alcohol he got deep into herbs (no, not those herbs). He carries a briefcase around with him with all sorts of natural items. So, it wouldn't surprise me if he was buzzing on some ginger root or gingko biloba or who knows what.

Awesome article, Brent. It's always fun to read interviews with RDJ, and he sounds like a great guy to talk to. Hearing that he took this role for Iron Man 2 very seriously is great news, especially for CBM fans. May 7th just cannot come soon enough. Me and my friends are definitely going for the midnight launch, that's for sure.

And I, too, would love to have the suit of armor. Don't think I'd have room for it anywhere in this house, but I'd make room! lol Or the helmet. Definitely wouldn't mind having that helmet.

I can't even say if is RDJ looks so good like a ZORRO type of hero, and looks so LATIN, that I always think about Tony Stark named like ANTONIO instead of ANTHONY. But who cares!

Agree Rickly - pure genius.

After watching Chaplin again, and listening to Richard Attenborough's (the man who directed Ghandi lol, as most of you know) praise for and comments about the man, and what he brought to that project - him taking IM2 "most serious" is a mindblower.

I think alot about him. Also with Sherlock Holmes, he was born to play that role, because of his facility with Chaplinesque miming and costumes (arguably better than Basil Rathbone).

I know I'm always saying it, but I'm almost certain that scene in Iron Man 1, when he's riding in the Humvee and they're playing "Back in Black" is an homage to his return to big budget epics - because he started off as Mr. Chaplin "The Tramp" in the black suit.

I think we're in for something profound and spectacular with IM2 if what he's saying there is true (which I'm sure it is).

@NITROBOT - I'm not gonna research it, but he doesn't look Latin to me. Actually looks relatively Anglo (or maybe Eastern European) with maybe a bit of Jew. He's not "conventionally handsome", but definitely not a bad looking guy. Just his nose is a tiny bit big and flattened - other than that, very well proportioned face. Am always laughing at that scene in Holmes where he puts the fake nose on, because at first I thought it was his real nose, and was like "isn't he supposed to be in disguise? lol".

Anyway shit... you guys watch after IM3, he'll get a hall of armor.

@ Fartman, elephantknowsbest is having fun. That is what being first is all about. I mean he is talking about the article. But yeah he should give up a couple firsts so someone else can snatch em up.
