Creative Director Kyle Brink made it clear that the game is "a unique story in the movie universe," and isn't just a direct adaptation of the movie. He also went on to say that having a team of SEGA's writers work alongside Invincible Iron Man scribe Matt Fraction worked out great, as the comic book writer kept them in touch with who Tony Stark is. "Matt Fraction was one of the easiest writers to work with. He really knows Iron Man and helped us capture the character."
When asked what his main goal with the game was Brink said he wanted to bring the action in closer to the player, "The first game had you hunting pixels, and shooting enemies from 500 feet away. In order to feel powerful, you need to hit someone in the face with your fist." He also revealed that War Machine will be playable in nearly the entire game and is not just Iron Man in a different suit as taking control of Rhodey will mean a different fighting style and more heavy weaponry.
"Iron Man makes a great character for a game, because you can fly, hover, run, use multiple weapons, have deep shooting gameplay and deep melee play," said Brink. He also revealed that Nick Fury will appear in the game as will the Helicarrier (including an entire mission fought on, around, and in it) Black Widow, the Crimson Dynamos and A.I.M.
The Iron Man 2 game will be released on Playstation 3, Xbox 360, PSP, Nintento Wii and DS later this year on May 4th.
