A QUIET PLACE Star Emily Blunt Reveals The Real Reason She Turned Down Black Widow Role In IRON MAN 2

It's no secret that Emily Blunt was lined up to play Natasha Romanoff in 2009's Iron Man 2, but we've heard conflicting stories since about what led to her losing out on the role to Scarlett Johansson.

In an interview with The Howard Stern Show, the actress finally set the record straight about what happened.

"I actually do want to clean up the story," she told the host. "I was contracted to do Gulliver’s Travels. I didn’t want to do Gulliver’s Travels. I love Iron Man and when I got offered Black Widow I was obsessed with Iron Man," Blunt continued. "I wanted to work with Robert Downey Jr. - it would’ve been amazing, but I don’t know if superhero movies are for me. They’re not up my alley. I don’t like them. I really don’t."

Despite that, the Edge of Tomorrow star admits it was a "bit of [a] heartbreaker" to miss out on playing Black Widow. "I take such pride in the decisions that I make, and they mean so much to me, the films that I do. I care very deeply, very, very much, about the choices I make. That’s all I have, the choices that I make.

"There were a lot of really lovely people who were heaven to work with [on Gulliver's Travels]," she continued. "I actually had a good time, a laugh, with all of them, but it irked my heart for it to have happened in the first place."

Blunt remains a fan favourite choice for the role of Sue Storm/Invisible Woman in the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot, but this isn't the first time she's expressed an apparent lack of interest in the genre. However, for most fans, it's her husband John Krasinski they want to see in that movie as Mister Fantastic!

Do you think Blunt would have made a better Black Widow than Scarlett Johansson?

I got dragged to see a double-feature of Gulliver’s Travels and Little Fockers on New Year’s Eve that year, and it made me wanna put a bullet in my skull. So I feel her pain.

@MUTO123 - FOX comedy films of the 2000s was pretty bad. There were some highlights like Meet the Fockers or Night at the Museum but mostly they were low budget cash grabs in the vein of Adam Sandler.
They made good money though which is kinda sad

Many Superhero movies are better than Edge of Tomorrow and Gulliver’s Travels, but you take it easy, baby. If we got Ethan Hawke, you'll join the club

I feel bad for her, she had to turn down a role she could have leveraged for years to come and could have fed her family a lot more easily than her current career (not they her current career is bad or anything but that role surely held more prestige).

I really hope that Marvel at least considers her and John for the parts of Reed and Sue. And if anything else gives them a different set of characters to play.
