Shane Black Briefly Comments On Iron Man 3 Involvement!

Shane Black, the screenwriter and director who was recently revealed to be in contention to helm the Jon Favreau-deserted Iron Man 3 film, speaks on his embroilment. Check it out!

We learned 24 hours ago that the action-oriented Lethal Weapon director Shane Black was in contention to helm Marvel Studios' forthcoming Iron Man 3 film. And now the folks over at The Wrap has gotten confirmation from Black himself, essentially commenting on his involvement.

"Nothing has been decided yet," Black told TheWrap on Thursday. "I've taken a few meetings and I'll probably take a few more before Marvel decides."

If Black were to be hired to helm Iron Man 3, whose story is being kept under wraps, he would also be writing the script. It'll also show that the 49 year old, whose last major film was 2005's Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, which starred Robert Downey Jr., still has what it takes.

And being that Downey revealed prior to the release of Iron Man, that he sought out advice from Shane Black on Tony Stark's direction, I'm positive he could bring back that spark that was somehow lost in the sequel. What do you think of Black making a comeback with Iron Man 3?

While theres more undisclosed contenders to helm, Iron Man 3 is slated for release May 3, 2013!

I'd be happy if he got the gig, he's a good director, knows how to write action as well as be write action flicks with heart and intelligence, which is what Iron Man 3 needs to be. Bring on the Mandarin and Fing Fang Foom!!

@ Intruder, you really think Shane would make a good Punisher? I've only seen Kiss, Kiss, Bang, Bang...which the vibe of it totally doesn't fit Punisher to me.

I'm all for Shane getting the ropes of this franchise. It'd be stellar, hell, probably end up being the best of the franchise. KKBB is one of my favorite flicks, the dialogue, pacing and plot of that are just about perfect. Right mixture of comedy and drama...

Why do people want to see Armor Wars so badly? I've waited two films for the Mandarin and I'm tired of seeing "Iron Man vs slightly-larger-Iron Man"!

@ indoraptor12

armor wars was a great story it featured captain america as well as a whole host of classic iron man foes,i think you could add the mandarin to that story & it would still be fine.

i think armor wars will be the route marvel goes as in iron man 2 we saw different countries versions of the "iron man" suit, also having a crossover movie with war machine could be epic, sort of 5 hour armor wars story would be fantastic.

Mandarin vs Iron Man could probably one of the biggest comic book movie conflicts. Both men are smart, inventive, and has big ambitions. It's the battle of comparable brains and cunning unlike the usual brain vs brawn.

Armor Wars is the usual armored dude vs armored dude. Bleh for the moment. Iron Man 3 has to get serious into Tony Stark philosophical war vs the Mandarin.

I just hope to do a great job, I just settle for a Mandarin Oriental is an expert in martial arts and mystical, and has the starring Robert Downey Jr., Samuel L. Jackson and Scarlett Johansson

"action-oriented Lethal Weapon director Shane Black" Black didn't direct Lethal Weapon, he wrote it. That movie was directed by Richard Donner.

I hear he directed some obscure superhero movie. :P

Shane Black's the perfect choice for Iron Man 3. If he gave advice to Downey about the Stark character (and wasn't he a consultant for the Iron Man script), and he knows how to work with Downey, who better to direct it.
I've got a feeling that bald headed terrorist dude from the first flick will turn out to be the Mandarin (leader of the terrorist cell called The Ten Rings; had a nice big shiny ring on one of his fingers, the way he was talking about conquering the world).

Also, what's this film "First-Ass" a couple of people mention. I'm gonna go check out X-Men: First Class, and you guys can go watch a film about an anus! ;)

Guy Ritchie should direct this film. The tone he had for Sherlock Holmes had the perfect balance of action, comedy and suspense that the Iron Man films are known for.

He seems like a good choice to direct..i kind of want to see a few more people get a shot of directing it..overall this movie franchise alone is still good..1st one blew me away..2nd one i liked the only thing that really disappointed me was the final battle scene..if whiplash would of had a slicker suit and f*cked up Tony Stark a little more it would have been great..the 3rd hopefully they will learn from their mistakes and make it sweet

IMO, Shane Black and Matt Fraction should write the script, Black should also executive produce so that he keeps having the influence on what's being filmed all the time. Fraction would take care of the Mandarin. Favreau should exec produce and insist on the realistic tone established not in 2 but 1, where I think he really had the word on what the movie as a whole will be.

I'd like to see Duncan Jones direct to keep the atmosphere of Tony's garage - that was an integral part of fun of the first film - the base of all the locations in film where Tony is who he really is, where he evolves and becomes himself, where he really feels being home and relaxed and where you can only get to know him in all sincerity. Having done Moon within a single location and really fleshing out the interaction between the character and the ambient, he should do great. He probably can handle the SF/fantastic aspect of Mandarin.

Stan Lee and RDJ should cooperate closely on getting Tony right and Feige will do his thing in making the movie work in MCU, as he always does in the end.
