Fabian Wagner is an up-and-coming Director of Photography best known for shooting Game of Thrones. He was behind some of the best episodes like Season 6's "The Battle of The Bastards". When Larry Fong, Zack Snyder's favored cinematographer, was unable to return for Justice League, Wagner proved to be a suitable replacement.

Following a tumultuous production process, Wagner's work on the film concluded at the end of principal photography. When Joss Whedon was brought on board to oversee the reshoots, Wagner was unable to return due to scheduling difficulties. 2nd Unit Photographer Jean-Philippe Gossart handled the reshoots.

With the film having a running time of 2 hours plus the fact that Zack Snyder's films often have superior Director's Cuts, Wagner had this to say:

"This one was even shorter than I expected, so there are scenes that aren't in there. I really hope we get to see a director's cut, which will give us everything that we shot that didn't make it in. What I love about his [Snyder's] director's cuts is they are long, but he takes his time to tell the story. I've never watched any of his directors cut and thought 'This is long." Whether they are three hours long, or three hours and ten minutes, they always seemed to go quick."

While he makes a great point about Zack taking his time to tell a story, it remains to be seen whether Warner Bros. will release a Director's Cut despite the fact that there is a growing number of people who want to see it. I hope so too Fabian.

@RealTalk - It would be nice as the only problem I had with the film was that it was over so quickly. The two hours flew by.

I want to see a Zack Snyder cut too. I've heard a few people say similar things about Zack's films and how his director cuts sometimes feels smoother and quicker than the theatrical cut.

@Highflyer - if this is the final film he’s doing at wb then I hope they at least release his cut or an extended one.

@Highflyer - This is really at the core of the problem for me. I think a different cut for BvS would've been received a lot differently. I rewatched the Ultimate Cut last week... the first hour is just a breeze. It just flows well.

Not to mention that in JL the reshoots look considerably uglier, in pretty much every sense. Now that I know that not even the main cinematographer was there, it just adds up.

@DavidGray - Agreed. When I'm watching a film that doesn't make sense (BvS TC) I feel like its going on forever. But when I was watching the ultimate edition, and I saw lex's hand in events it made it more engaging and an easier watch.

I strangely agree... BvS Ultimate Cut is a far easier watch than the theatrical cut, in my opinion at least. The 3 hours don't feel as draining or exhaustive as that 2.5 hour test on my optimism.

I am curious just to compare...but I will tell you that every DC fanatic will call it a masterpiece that only they can understand no matter what Snyder does.

@Forthas - I think it's just a matter of taste.

I love Snyder's vision and style, but I can totally understand some other dude disliking it.

I'm not a fan of Tarantino, but am aware that his fans go crazy over his films.

Different strokes...

@Forthas - That's the thing. You CAN understand it. As a matter of fact, when you know what to look for in the story he’s telling, not only does it click, but you start to see that there is so much more to it that enhances the story every time you watch it. It's such an incredible experience. I'm sure you have noticed it in Man of Steel. When you recognize that what drives Superman is not what happened when he was a teenager, but when his mother saves him as a child, you recognize what his conflict really is and how everything backs up both the obstacles he’s facing and what he does to overcome then. IE, he can't use his abilities to help people as Clark Kent, because those closest to him would pay the price if the wrong person found out his secret. Until he finds his uniform, he travels the US, saving people under multiple aliases and moving on before anyone can ask any questions and the story continues until the end. Once you know what the story is, and what to look for, you get it and it's incredible. I desperately want to see his Justice League film. I love, not only watching his films, but rewatching them to get further into the stories he's telling.

@DavidGray -
I like the dark tone and I love his visuals and his cinematography. But I have to admit the stories and dialogues are mostly lame, I mean really lame. I just don't understand how people throw 300mio into one movie and make such boring and generic stories, where the story should always be the heart of a film. After that comes the rest, please. This is the problem I have. Give the man a good and capable writer and then let him direct, easy as that.

It shouldn't happen. They should stick with what they put out. The damage is already done.
