Hot Toys Officially Unveil Their 'Mandarin' Figure From IRON MAN 3

Well, their Trevor figure more accurately! We saw a glimpse of this at SDCC but now take a look at some more snaps of an incredibly detailed action figure bearing Ben Kingsley's likeness. Unfortunately cans of beer and coke-whores are sold seperately..

"From the menacing portrayal in Iron Man 3's movie trailer to the actual film that brings an unexpected twist, The Mandarin has been one of the most attention-grabbing characters in the movie. Although the representation of The Mandarin in the movie may have deviated from the comics, Sir Ben Kingsley has given a great performance to this peculiar role and Hot Toys is happy to present the 1/6th scale The Mandarin Collectible Figure from the movie. The Mandarin collectible figure is specially crafted based on the image of Sir Ben Kingsley as The Mandarin in the movie, highlighting the newly developed head sculpt, tailored costume with remarkable details and accessories."

He (still) looks cool, though judging from The Art of Iron Man Three, he could've had a far more unique look. But...ah, not that I can afford a Hot Toys figure, anyway! They nail the resemblance, though, so that's a good thing, as some of their figures lately don't.

Lol @Ror! I'm still so disappointed at the "twist". Not that it's a terrible movie, and Ben Kingsley gave an awesome performance as usual, I just feel like they had this great set up for the Mandarin throughout the first two movies, and then just let all of the air out of the balloon at the end. I don't see why they couldn't have made Killian the stooge/lackey instead. Seems like a waste of talent to relegate Kingsley to that role.

So much potential to reinvent a classic Iron Man villain wasted. Smh, damn you Shane Black.

Awesome figure though.

I'd actually love to see a figure of the actual Mandarin - yeah, Aldrich Killian, if you love denying that - as the movie puts quite a subtle foreshadowing of the character (kinda), so I'm interested to see what kind of detail they'd pay attention to in the figure.

Also, has an Iron Patriot figure ever been announced?

"The twist was executed to perfection! Such a refreshing and nuanced take on a lame stereotypical character! Shane Black's fresh take on the Mandarin trumps years of classic iron man versus mandarin stories!"

@JoachimVR- I feel like those changes were minor comparatively. It made sense that Stane and Howard Stark were colleagues, and in turn Stane and Tony. The essence of the character was still there. And let's face it, Jarvis is no Alfred. While that particular change annoyed me to an extent, it still somewhat made sense to me. It's the complete change of character of the Mandarin that upsets me, not to mention the meticulous set up of the character in the first two movies just to squash it at the end that pissed me off. I've read plenty of Iron Man comics to have a valid opinion on the subject.

You know, that looks great. It's kind of sad because that would have been a great reinvention of a character that's out of place for today's culture. They could have given him operation rings and said it was powered by the tesseract or some other alien technology in order to tie the character in to everything else.

The route Shane Black took with The Mandarin really makes no sense. The general public doesn't know who the Mandarin is so why waste the character name? They could have called Killian any other name and the story wouldn't have been effected.

They need to be building a strong stable of villains for the Avengers and they just wasted one. I liked the movie, but this was really a waste of a character.

I meant to say operational rings.

Simjo lists the rings abilities. It would have been nice and fun to see them put to use. You can make them based on magic or alien technlogy. The general audience would have bought into it. If they can trust and love Avengers, then they wouldn't have had an issue with the rings or the true Mandarin.

Most people in general love Iron Man 3. Most comic book junkies like us either hate it or have issues with it. The twist was well played you have to admit. It's certainly not a bad movie but it's not what we wanted. I thought the story was otherwise good and I like that we got to see Stark using his smarts.

Iron Man has a pretty weak rogues gallery IMO and if they discarded his main antagonist so casually then I guess that doesn't speak well for the rest of the bunch. Maybe that's why they're giving him Ultron. I'm tired of Iron Man anyway and it sounds like we'll see plenty of him in the next two Avengers so hopefully this means more solo films of other characters will get a chance to shine in the future.

But yeah Marvel - don't do that again.

At least bane was a tactical mercanaries just like in comic, not a clown just like mandarin in iron man 3.
