McG's SUPERMAN: FLYBY - Awesome New Image Of Superman Maquette

Tim Burton JP, posted a new image of a Superman maquette from the defunct, Superman: Flyby. A film that would've starred Robert Downey Jr. as Lex Luthor, and been directed by McG ("Charlie's Angels"), based on a script written by J.J. Abrams ("Star Trek").

Update! Tim Burton JP (Facebook Page/Tumblr Page), has posted an image of a Superman maquette that they believed was from Nicolas Cage and Tim Burton's Superman Lives, but based on past images posted on Superman Homage, we can see producer, Jon Peters, posing with the maquette and it is identified as being from the Superman: Flyby production. As for the maquette itself, it is a model (usually made from clay) that is sculpted by a member of the art department, to give producers a 3D representation of a character from the film.

For those of you that aren't familiar with Superman: Flyby. It was a Superman film that was written by J.J. Abrams ("Super 8") in the early 2000's. Originally Brett Ratner ("Rush Hour") was attached to direct, but he was later replaced with music video savant, McG ("We Are Marshall"). You can read a brief breakdown the script below, or a more detailed version by clicking here.

The costume doesn't look all that bad. Needs a cape and red boots. The only thing that would have made this costume worse though is Nic Cage wearing it.

Tim Burton should turn this into a DC animated movie with Nicolas Cage & Sandra Bullock doing the voices.

That face looks just like that kid from the Phillipines or wherever who's had plastic surgery to look like Superman. I'm not kidding, google it!

Pfft! That's not a maquette of the Tim Burton Superman! That's a maquette of the J.J. ABRAMS Superman! Jon Peters took a bunch of photos with this thing a while back, talking about the Abrams/McG Superman movie that never happened. Notice the "S" doesn't look pointy? That's a dead giveaway. That, and all the superfluous design lines running along the bodysuit. It's much more 2004 than 1999.

Close, but no cigar.

For some reason, I am incredibly grateful that this film never was made. I kind of view Burton as a "one-trick pony". I know he has his fans and he has his own style but I found that, after seeing Beetlejuice, I pretty much had seen most of his style. That, and his over-reliance on Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham-Carter kind of irks me. I know he's married to Helena, so I understand that but the Depp obsession smacks a little creepy to me.

That dude from the Philippines that had plastic surgery to look like Superman scares the sh*t outta me.......why do that to yourself...he can never have any super powers like Superman...why would you want a comic character's face? I'm surprised there isn't some billionaire running around a large populated city fighting crime. At least he can pull that off. What do you have to prove by having someone else's face? You can do anything else with that. It would be cool if he were an actor and in a major movie but he's like 5'5" and 145lbs....poor kid

Looks weird. That film would have been terrible but i'm curious as to what could have been and how the fans would have reacted if the film was made.

I'm thankful the fans of Superman have a current Superman film done right which is 'Man of Steel'.

Tim Burton has a weird style. I like him, The Nightmare before Christmas and The Corpse Bride were my favourite movies as a kid (yeah I was weird, I also liked Tarantino). But I'm not sure for Superman, I wasn't a big fan of his Batman.

If he made this movie now, Johnny Depp would be Superman and Helena would be Lois.

I'm struck by the similar design to the MoS suit.

More importantly, I think it's interesting to note that, once again, it's proven: Design 101: can't just have yellow on the S shield. You need at LEAST a spot of it elsewhere to bring the design, and uniform, together.

Someone tell Jim Lee.

'Cause the New 52 suit needs a redesign. (Well, the New 52 needs a redesign, with some exceptions of course.)

@jerry of course I've seen them, he is an interesting director. I'm currently reading a book he wrote, it has some pretty sick and violent poems but it's fun. I didn't enjoy his latest movies though (Alice in Wonderland and Dark Shadows)

And by the way, MoS was way better than all these shit, so the haters should stfu.
