Which Aquatic Superhero Would You Like To See In A Movie Theatre Near You?

Not only are they almost equals at strength and abilities....But they both have a strong chance of becoming a Major Motion Picture.....Very soon. Which one of these Atlanteans would you like to see on the silver screen and why is one character more deserving than the other....or should we say...which one could work better on screen?

Here are the breakdowns of each character which most of you have knowledge of already.
Namor the Sub-Mariner is a fictional, comic-book character in the Marvel Comics universe, and one of the first superheroes, debuting in Spring 1939. The character was created by writer-artist Bill Everett for Funnies, Inc., one of the first "packagers" in the early days of comic books that supplied comics on demand to publishers looking to enter the new medium.

Initially created for the unreleased comic Motion Picture Funnies Weekly, the Sub-Mariner first appeared publicly in Marvel Comics #1 (Oct. 1939) — the first comic book from Timely Comics, the 1930s-1940s predecessor of the company Marvel Comics. During that period, known to historians and fans as the Golden Age of Comic Books, the Sub-Mariner was one of Timely's top three characters, along with Captain America and the original Human Torch. Everett said the character's name was inspired by Samuel Coleridge's poem, "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner".

The mutant son of a human sea captain and of a princess of the mythical undersea kingdom of Atlantis, Namor possesses the super-strength and aquatic abilities of the "Homo mermanus" race, as well as the mutant ability of flight, along with other superhuman powers. Through the years, he has been alternately portrayed as a good-natured but short-fused superhero, or a hostile invader seeking vengeance for perceived wrongs that misguided surface-dwellers committed against his kingdom.

The first known comic book antihero, the Sub-Mariner has remained a historically important and relatively popular Marvel character. He has served directly with the Avengers, Fantastic Four, the Invaders, and the X-Men as well as serving as a foil to all of them on occasion.

Namor possesses superhuman strength and, with the possible exceptions of Orka and Tyrak at their full sizes, is the strongest Atlantean ever known. The exact level of his strength is dependent upon his physical contact with water, in which he needn't be submerged. It has been shown as sufficient to effortlessly toss a water-filled ocean-liner, despite the underwater viscosity. His strength diminishes slowly the longer he is out of contact with water, though an extended period on land does not result in his death, as it would for a typical Atlantean, and his power is retained in full as long as he keeps himself wet. Namor also possesses superhuman stamina and resistance to injury due to his hybrid nature. Namor's strength level is such that he has held his own in hand to hand combat with beings as powerful as the Hulk.

Aquaman is a fictional comic book superhero who appears in DC Comics. Created by Paul Norris and Mort Weisinger, the character debuted in More Fun Comics #73 (Nov. 1941). Initially a backup feature in DC's anthology titles, Aquaman later featured in his own title several times. Nearly two decades later, during the superhero-revival period known as the Silver Age of Comic Books, he was a founding member of the Justice League of America. Later still, in the 1990s-present Modern Age of Comic Books, Aquaman's character became more serious, with storylines depicting the weight of his role as King of Atlantis.

In his early Golden Age appearances, Aquaman could breathe underwater with gills, had superhuman strength enabling him to swim at high speeds, and could communicate with sea life and have them do his bidding. Initially, he was depicted as speaking to sea creatures "in their own language" rather than telepathically, and only when they were close enough to hear him. While he was often described as the "sovereign of the sea," with the waters of the entire globe his "domain," and almost every sea creature his "loyal subject," the title was never an official one. Aquaman's adventures took place all across the world, and his base was "an ancient temple of lost Atlantis, kept underwater," in which he kept a solitary throne.

During his wartime adventures, most of Aquaman's foes were Nazi U-boat commanders and various Axis villains. The rest of his adventures in the 1940s and 1950s had him dealing with various sea-based criminals, including modern-day pirates such as his longtime archenemy Black Jack, as well as various threats to aquatic life, shipping lanes, and sailors.

Aquaman has a number of superhuman powers, most of which derive from the fact that he is adapted to live in the depths of the ocean. He has the ability to breathe underwater. He possesses superhuman durability high enough to remain unaffected by the immense pressure and the cold temperature of the ocean depths, this also makes him tough enough to be invulnerable to machine gun fire.He also possesses superhuman strength. He can swim at very high speeds, capable of reaching speeds of 10,000 feet per second and can swim up Niagara Falls. He can see in near total darkness and has enhanced hearing granting limited sonar. Although he can remain underwater indefinitely without suffering any ill effects, Aquaman grows weak if he remains on land for extended periods. However, when Batman invented Aquaman's water suit he was able to walk on land for an indefinite amount of time and was no longer vulnerable to a "dehumidifier".

Bottom line friends....WHO IS MORE WORTHY OF A CBM COMING SOON TO A THEATER NEAR YOU?

Hate to say it, as I recently think Aquaman is a great character. WB after doing GL, I don't want them anywhere near a Aquaman solo film. But he's definetely an interesting character I'd like to see WB do right in a JLA film... a decade from now. Hopefully they straighten up.

NAMOR. Too bad he can't chase Susan Storm around but Marvel will do him right. He'd make for a great film. Hopefully Marvel keeps his story in the water and not flood it with SHIELD and The Avengers 2 build up and on land scenes.

Namor is the Original Oceanic Hero in comics and he should be the Original in Film as well. Plus I think Namor needs to be made before Aquaman, if not the comparison of the more popular AM would destroy Namor's Box Office chances.

Aquaman, once WB get their shit together. While Namor is a good super hero, alot of the stories I read about him usually have him either as a side hero or a villain. I mean, when he came back to the comic book world, he is normally seen as a Fantastic Four character, which isn't good since Fox still owned the team (as well as all mutants, and Namor is a mutant). I honestly couldn't see how they can make a movie from here with the Sub Mariner.

Aquaman is already good to use with the story and characters. He isn't subjected to side character like Namor in alot of comics, and he does actually have a villain that can work for his movi e (not alot of people know any Namor villains). So I think Aquaman is the best choice.

@ bigk

Namor isn't really known as just a Fantastic Four character anymore. He's in the x-men now, and thats pretty much the only place you see him these days.

I don't think either needs their own solo movie.

then again, i don't really like either of them. Namor is such a whiny cockface. all he does is complain about how much better he is than everyone else, how great atlantis is, and how crappy the surface is. screw namor.

and Aquaman is...well...Aquaman, lol.

Either way, he is still shown as just a supporting super hero; which is like the main point I am trying to make as to why Aquaman would work out better for a solo super hero film.

@ argo and bigk

yeah, that pisses me off. Namor is the first PUBLISHED mutant, but in the comics, he's also recognized as the first mutant, which is just not true.

during Grant Morrison's run on New X-Men specifically, there is a scene where Jean Grey (i believe) is teaching a class, and she asks who the first mutant is, and someone says Namor. Jean tells the student he is right.

Now, Apocalypse has been around since ancient times, and the X-Men know all about him. So what exactly are they teaching at the school? lol. Also, you would Marvel would know their own universe enough to not let that slide.

Namor is NOT the first mutant in comics.

im biased....AQUAMAN....perhaps dc should get on that before marvel decides to do NAMOR.....the second film to come out will not do as well...itll be seen as a copycat film....just my opinion.

Look at all the whiny Marvel fanboys shitting on DC because Green Lantern failed. They don't wanna see anymore DC characters on the big screen but anything Marvel. /sarcasm :P
but in all seriousness, I'd say both.

When I said that Namor is Marvel's first published mutant, I was refering to the fact he is in comics of our time and in the news articles of the Marvel universe.

From what I have so far read, Namor was in fact the first mutant that made an apperance to the public. Therefore, due to this reason, he is concider by everybody to be the first mutant revealed to everyone.

Namor is Marvels First Hero and Has a History Grand enough to make a great film series too.

Namor is not simply a Mutant but a Hybrid and Marvel has already disclosed that Namor is under there Production Company.

Aquaman has a better chance of Survival if released after Namor. Namor is completely Dead if not released before Aquaman.

NAMOR FTW!

@ CDB: You Mad That Namor Batter Then you????? lol j.k
Namor is the First Open Mutant. He was tested and they discovered that not only was he a Hybrid Human/Atlantean but that he has an X-Genome. So to the marvel World he is the First Mutant. Though many like, Mystique, Sabretooth, Emma Frost, Wolverine, Apocalypse, etc.... All predate his birth.

@ThaMessenger07

Actually, it was the Human Torch that was Marvel's first hero. Last I check, in Namor first apperance he was just an anti hero, due to his stance against humanity but was willing to help them during WW2 just to get rid of all the Nazi subs that were in his domains
ThaMessenger07
ThaMessenger07 - 7/21/2011, 12:19 PM
@ BigK: True, but he was there First Character that has lived into the Marvel universe. All horror Comics they made before were reinvented into the Marvel Universe. Namor was Marvels First Character.

i wouldnt say he was a hero : P, hes a robot so he was programmed to do what he did, thats how i think of all robot "super heros" maybe vison since he has the brain of a human

I gotta go with Aquaman because he is a lot cooler than people give him credit for. Do it like he was on the Justice League cartoon he was a serious badass on there.

As much as I'd love to see Aquaman make an impact and help DC along in the film world, I imagine we'll see Namor first.
Aquaman has the advantage of general recognition, but the disadvantage of the reputation of being corny and dumb.
So Namor would probably go down better.
LP4
LP4 - 7/22/2011, 3:35 AM
Aquaman all the way.

He is the "black sheep" of the DCU. Everybody pisses on that guy, he is the one they always talk crap about.

So I'd love for him to get a film just so they can make REALLY badass and so he can show all those haters what he's all about.

Plus Namor has enough fans without actually NEEDING a film. Aquaman has fans...but I'd say between the two, he's more in need of a film just to boost up his image more. The general public STILL to this day, mock him as "the lame guy who talks to fish" even though...Namor does basically the same exact thing. :P

Hopefully Arthur C. can get a film pretty soon.

Wait a minitue didn't they try and do an Aquaman piolt a while back and it never made to TV. Reminds me of Wonder Woman what the hell is going on. I would like to see them both. Namor would be my first choice however cause i think Marvel would do a better job right now till DC gets it head out of its a$$.
