The LA Times has just released the following report and I'm asking the ComicBookMovie community to lend a hand:
Two weeks ago, at a 9 PM showing of
Shutter Island at the Cinemark 22 theater in Lancaster, a dispute ending with a violent assault. One of the moviegoers was complaining about a woman seated nearby using her cell phone during the screening. The woman, who heard the victim's comments, left the theater with two men, who returned a few minutes later and stabbed the victim in the neck with a meat thermometer.
I need to state that again. . .
stabbed the victim in the neck with a meat thermometer.
Two witnesses to the crime were also hurt while attempting to aid the victim. Though the victim has not been identified, it was reported that he was hospitalized with serious wounds.
Los Angeles County Sherrif spokesman Steve Whitmore went on record to say,
"It was a vicious and cowardly attack."
The three suspects are still at large. Anyone with information about the attack is asked to call the Lancaster Sheriff's station at (661) 948-8466.
MPP - As a few of you know, I've posted several of these articles in the past. I've been a law enforcement officer for over eight years and one thing I truly believe is that the best leads in these instances don't come from sound investigating practices; but from witnesses that are brave enough to step forward when the need arises.
We, as a community, have an undying love for both comics and films. Our endearment for the first shows that we have an inherent knowledge of good, evil and justice.
Unfortunately, we have become a society where common courtesy has been replaced with intolerance; and good nature has been overshadowed by unnecessary violence. We are seldom offered the opportunity to show true courage and become real world heroes. This is one of those times. I'm asking that anyone who is familiar with the location or circumstances in question make an attempt to help solve this heinous crime by offering local law enforcement any definitive insight regarding the situation.
We can choose to make the individual effort to stop incidents like this from occurring, or we can continue a dangerous downward spiral. The choice is yours to take a stand and not let our society continue to deteriorate.
