Yes Nolanites, Christopher Nolan, in a recent interview says when he gets a bad review or some criticism, it makes him angry, just like it would with many other directors, "It's not as hard to keep your reactions in proportion as you might think, and the reason for that is because yes, a bad review or a particular criticism will make you angry," He then continues, “And you'll be happy when somebody says they like the film - but you get both reactions to every film, no matter who you are, and it's the same movie!” I, and I’m sure many other people can see where Nolan is coming from. If you take your time and effort to make a film and someone criticizes your hard work, it will get you peeved.

As for Interstellar, Nolan says it’s "obviously personal and more obviously about emotion." He then dishes out more information regarding what he thought Interstellar was about, “I mean, it's literally about connections between human beings and what they might mean if we look at them from a different perspective. So no, I try not to be reactive in what I do.” Interstellar is out and I’m sure many of you have seen it already. So, you be the judge! What would you rate Nolan’s newest film? Sound off below with your thoughts!

Well isn't that just ridiculous...Aren't directors supposed to be stone-hearted and not care what people think of their "art"?

I seriously think this film would not have been as hated by some critics if it had another director's name slapped on it. Wtf is wrong with people lol

I don't like it when...people say mean things to me...and then it hurts my feelings.

Not surprised. When a filmmaker works their ass off to make a novie that gets critiszied a lot, they probably feel shitty. That's what comic book fans forget: these dudes are human beings. Their not emotionless creatures that don't care about your opinion on their work. Be it Bryan Singer or Shane Black, Zack Snyder or Christopher Nolan, all of them work hard for what they do. Even if we may think their film is ass, they try their best to do a good job.

Honestly, what's there to criticise? Genius film maker.

Can't believe people disliked interstellar, best movie of the year by far.

PS: If I had one criticism, it would how Bane died. Bane deserved a better death.

Haha, Nolan is everywhere. Maybe he'll make another CBM

I think it's good that he gets angry, it shows he actually cares about what he's doing

I love Nolan's films, but my main complaint was that he spoon feeds the audience. If you're going to try and emulate Kubrick, don't water down your material. In interstellar, Murphy's ghost was mentioned a dozen times before they actually left earth. By the time it gets to the climax it's not really a surprise to us. Let people figure things out for themselves and they'll get more enjoyment out of the film.

its hard when you get critiziced, but damn these guys who write the articles love to instigate the fire, the message not a rehash of words to promote anger goddamnit. Great school of writing from the huffington post

Same with Inception, great film...but they didn't need to take 10 minutes of screen time to spell out how shared dreaming works.

@Canon108: If he doesn't spoon feed them the answers, they'll have more "plot holes" to complain about. lol

Yeah you guys are totally right on the money.
EVERY director has a right to feel anger or disappointment when people bash their films...... Except Christopher Nolan.

@Jordanstine

Might I ask why you disliked The Prestige? It's easily my favourite movie from Nolan, so I'm curious to see what made you dislike it.

The notion that Nolan can do no wrong is ridiculous. I'm a big Nolan fan and it started long time ago when I saw "Memento" it's still a top 5 movie for me and his best. But that doesn't mean I need to like all his other films.

I'm luckily enough to have seen all 9 of his major films. Grading them by 1 or 2 "U" as thumbs up, "D" as thumbs down:

Following - U
Memento - UU (his best)
Insomnia - U
The Prestige - D
Batman Begins - UU
The Dark Knight - UU
Dark Knight Rises - D
Inception - UU
Interstellar - U

So 7 of his 9 films I liked, but only 4 of the 7 were real great.

With 2 of Nolan's films didn't like so much. Oh no an opinion! Gasp!

Well Chris is not used to bad criticism. So it's understandable

@MercwithMouth

I honestly liked Prestige about 75% into the movie until...

SPOILERS------

Hugh's character discovered a cloning machine which took away the realism that magic had always been about trickery which was established throughout the film until that point. Then, it became fantasy.

It's kind'a like if Batman Begins or the TDK trilogy all of a sudden somehow had Superman fly in, taking away the established realism of the film.

@ABetterTomorrow

It's fanboyisms. Most of these people who hate Christopher Nolan, A guy who has directed the types of movies he has, either are Marvel Studios fanboys/girls with a bias against DC/Fox/Sony, or they are just salty because of the man's success.

This should be clear by now lol

@theLastSonOfEl

The point of the movie was never lost, it's the delivery that made it go "Wait, what? The movie just established magic is not real, so how does that machine exist? Where did that come from?"

Going back to my TDK example, it's like if Superman had flown down and saved the 2 boats from Joker or something. The point of the film is still there (Salvation) but the delivery left you "Wait, where did Superman come from?"

@Jordanstine

Fair enough. Definitely a movie that required a lot more "suspension of disbelief" in the second half than the first. Although, with the reveal of the cloning machine, it gave the movie a poignant commentary on how the two magicians differed. Angier's unrelenting need for the spotlight compared to Borden's ability to share the spotlight in the best interest of the show.

Borden never had a clone...Fallon was his twin brother.

I understand that one can be sad or (extremely) disappointed by a bad critic but anger ?

This to me stem from a massive ego.

Nobody is perfect and criticism shouldn't trigger something as close as anger.

That's the kind of negative emotion that ended up to the shuting down of the comments section of RT site during the shamful TDKR rampage and the out of line death threats.
