Newsarama.com caught up with DC Editor-in-Chief Bob Harras and Executive Editor Eddie Berganza to get some answers regarding the up-coming relaunch of the DC Universe in September. Below are a few excerpts from the interview on some questions relating to Superman comic books...

As any informed comic book fan knows, changes to iconic characters rarely "sticks." We all remember Superman Blue and other costumes that eventually got back to iconic looks, and we've seen characters come back from the dead. Should fans even regard these changes as anything but a phase - a temporary status quo that will give way to the more familiar version?

Harras:
I think this time, honestly, we've taken a lot of care making sure we look at what works for each and every character. We love these characters so we've taken an extreme amount of care to look at what we want to do.

I think what we've got coming is really exciting. I think people are going to be really happy with what they see in September, and I think people are going to be excited. I'm looking forward beyond that, to just hear people as they discover this amazing stuff.

Berganza: I think there's a little more reality to the approach we're doing on the costumes, so I think that will enable them to exist for a long time.

No doubt you're aware of the sect of fans who have not been happy about the changes they see, or at least appear to see at this stage. As you speak to fans who are excited as well as those who aren't, what would you say to them?

Berganza:
Keep an open mind! It's like opening TV guide and it's a whole new season.

An extreme amount of care? Yeah right. A lot of these costume changes didn't even leave any respect for the old costumes... Nightwing being the prime example for me. They couldn't even be bothered to make his suit black and blue.

...Oh well, as a Nightwing fan, I'll give the series a go anyway.

And I do admit that there are lots of good changes that seem to me coming... The Justice League, Hawkman, and Green Arrow seem to be getting some good facelifts, from what I've read.

So... tell me DC, the reboot titles launch in September. What incentive do I have for picking up your current titles until then? Or the TPB's of title's I've missed?

I'm extremely pissed off about several changes to just as many characters, thanks to the "REBOOT" I will be dropping a number of comics from my monthly list, however the core ppl that I normally go for like Superman, Batman, GL & Wonder Woman I'll pick up and check out, Wonder Woman I dont really care to much.......cause she changes every other year anyway lol

The idea about people being that annoyed at something like this blows my mind, reminds me of how people reacted to Mohammed being drawn.

@ Intruder: where are you getting that info about the bankruptcy? My recollection is that was due Ron Perelman and Carl Icahn. I don't see how an E-i-C can cause bankruptcy.

Also: he was in charge when X-Men went from a hit comics to a HUGE franchise for Marvel. And he's credit with doing that.

I also recall people at Marvel being disappointed when he ousted but, again, if I recall correctly, their flagship -- Spider-Man -- was suffering and when you squash Spidey. you gotta go.

All that said: I think the DCnU is a mess of a concept that was poorly conceived, isn't nearly as "modern" as they think it is, and using a drab, dark '90s-style mini called "Flashpoint" as its springboard is NOT a good start.
