Clickbait !!!
How does it work ? Easy, you take a quote, picture, tweet or even a screenshot and you write a loud sounding title for an article that in some cases may only be a single quote. Then fans visit your site and you get some nice Goodle add revenue for your site/business/blog/vlog.
Why are we discussing this? Well, if you have noticed, DC Films has had a very turmoil ride on that front, since 2013 up until today, the biggest headlines that catch fire and get attention are DC articles. Yes, of course when Disney announces a new movie, character, trailer, actor or director that gets attention as much as DC. Let’s however remember that MCU mostly gets official information-based articles and even when a director is fired, replaced, quits or an actor is replaced, the general consensus is that this is for the best.
When the same happens for DC, it seems to play as some sort of alarm for a sinking ship. What am I basing this on, well as someone who follows a lot of scoopers I tend to listen to any type of live podcast style videos they make, the first sign was when Umberto Gonzales did a periscope live [Inside fan baseball or something of the nature] and was asked by a fan which brand [MCU or DC Films] brings more traffic to his site overall, his reply was pretty weird at the time, DC Films seems to be his main bread and butter. Since then I have directly engaged many similar site owners with the same question, it seems the case is the same for Revenge of the Fans site too.
Now why is that, if the champion is the MCU as everyone says, well it is clearly a mix of reasons. Bloggers and amateur video creators seem to realize that DC news is getting them traffic positive or negative. DC has many unofficial hubs online which engage in all sorts of fake scoops, we are talking about Twitter, Reddit, 4Chan and many others. In 80 % of the time these leaks are pure fan fiction, when you have enough real information you can piece together a nice sounding fan fiction, the question is why is DC more appealing in that category then Marvel. Well its simple, bloggers and their respective associates have been critical of DC since 2013 Man of Steel, since then each DC film released has been bad mouthed, they express constant desire to DC to reboot or stop its shared universe, but fail to realize, there isn’t much traffic to be had with the “ teacher’s pet “ MCU one, since they aren’t programmed to run wild rumors for them. So, if DC Films stops making these movies, you are left with a shaky Sony Spider-verse and soon only the MCU since Fox is going to be fully owned by Disney by 2019 January.
DC currently is playing the game by taking the best approach from MCU, Fox and Sony. What I mean by that is they own all of the characters they need, no lose ends. They are making one off movies like The Joker by Todd Phillips that can be cheap and earn them awards, much like Logan [owned then by FOX], they are continuing their connected universe known as DCEU [unofficially] , they are making connected movies with separate look and tone [Shazam and The Batman will be words apart from each other, but exist in the same universe], and they are going with more emphasis on solo movies to build heroes and villains at the same time. Wonder Woman is showing the DCEU in different decades, The Batman will show modern day and early day Bruce Wayne fighting criminals in Gotham, Aquaman is set post Justice League, Birds of Prey also. Time will not move as fast it does in the MCU movie for movie, so once we have the following movies out: Flash, Batman, Birds of Prey, Aquaman, Wonder Woman 84, Shazam, Black Adam, Joker, Suicide Squad 2, Joker/Harley, Batgirl, Nightwing, Green Lantern Corps, New Gods, Deathstroke, Gotham City Sirens, Supergirl and more, you can start doing much more crossovers like they do in the animated department and not make it mandatory to be under the Justice League banner.
DC has all the advantages right now, with Walter Hamada stepping in as a producer, he has a good experience in making franchises that are profitable in terms of low cost budgets and a nice worldwide box office total. He has expressed interest in focusing on solo movies that co-exist in the same universe, that will solidify the characters on his own before adding him to cross overs and make director driven movies that have a distinguished style rather than something that fits in the middle spectrum of tone.
So to the many blogs out there, please stop pretending that you can write of DC Films like Thanos did with ½ of the universe, you need DC to make money, you will not go broke, but you need it like an addict needs his hit.
Aquaman’s just under 2 months away and I can guarantee the movie will be a box office hit even though there is tough competition in December. With the ticket price in 2018 reaching 9.14 USD, Aquaman can sell the same seats that the first Thor did back in the day [which will be considered very low estimate] and will end up making 517 Million worldwide. That’s if the movie is bad, now if the movie is good we can see similar seats sold as Man of Steel – 751 Million, Batman V Superman DOJ – 922 Million, Wonder Woman – 841 Million, Suicide Squad like performance in terms of seats will end the movie in the 790 Million range.
So with these performances in mind the DC Films phase 1 could end up with a total from 4.2 Billion all the way up to 4.69 Billion, which compared to its competitor for phase 1 would be 3.8 Billion. So what ever you say, men lie, women lie, numbers don’t!
The newest news comes from
Mr. Mezzy who confirms my Collider Movie Talk suspicions from a long time ago, getting fired by someone for not liking Marvel movies is one thing, but that person tweeting 24/7 hate against DCEU movies is way too eye opening.
Stay classy San Diego!
