Marvel committed dates for 5 films -- Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, The Guardians Of The Galaxy, and the untitled 2nd Avengers film -- and have also hinted strongly at Edgar Wright bringing Ant-Man to the screen as well. All 6 films, presumably have to be in the theater by May 1st 2015. So between now and then, they have a little under 3 years. The math, in terms of when they actually have to shoot each film, should go roughly like this:

Iron Man 3
5-6 month shoot
April, 2012->Sept, 2012
Release Date: May 3, 2013

Thor: The Dark World
4-5 month shoot
Sept, 2012->Dec, 2012
Release Date: Nov 8, 2013

Captain America: The Winter Soldier
4-5 month shoot
Jan, 2013->May, 2013
Release Date: April 4, 2014

The Guardians Of The Galaxy
5-6 month shoot
May, 2013->Oct, 2013
Release Date: Aug 1, 2014

Ant-Man
4-5 month shoot
Sept/Oct, 2013->Jan, 2014
Release Date: April 3, 2015

The Avengers 2
5-6 month shoot
Jan 2014->June 2014
May 1, 2015

I think Ant-Man Will could potentially be a third 2014 movie as opposed to coming out just before the Avengers. I'm assuming that GOTG will lead in to A2.

I think Ant Man may come out in November 2014, just to give it a little more room before Avengers 2...or maybe early March 2015...or they might even push him back to after Avengers 2, maybe November 2015 (that would be a long time to wait) but it would be a good transition into Phase 3 with Ultron. That way GotG would lead into Avengers 2.

Quick casting theory: So the rumor is that Dr. Strange will be showing up in Thor (awesome mystical Segway, IMO) and that Joel Edgerton WAS considered for the role. Maybe the reason he is no longer considered is because Edgar Wright is looking at him for Ant Man? Just an off-the-wall idea.

Great Article, 80sFace! I think you hit the nail on the head.

Cap: TWS filming looking like it starts March 2013. So GotG filming will overlap.

Moriarty, thx man. And yeah, possible Ant-Man will be a late 2014 release. Marvel would be taking a risk introducing a totally new character at that time of year IMO, but until they announce something, we're making some educated (sort of) guesses.

I agree about Ant-man. I don't think we have anything confirmed yet. Marvel definitely wouldn't compete with itself by having two movies out at the same time.
