POLL: Who Is Your Favourite Patriotic Superhero? Captain America Or Superman?

POLL: Who Is Your Favourite Patriotic Superhero? Captain America Or Superman?

Both stand for, "Truth, Justice and the American way" but which of these patriotic superheroes is your favourite? It's Marvel's Captain America vs. DC's Superman in this special 4th of July poll...

There may have been points in both these patriotic characters histories where they've turned their back on their beloved USA for whatever reason, but there's no doubting the fact that both Captain America and Superman each represent some of the greatest aspects of the country they so proudly call their own! Captain America fought for America during World War II and many years later once again took on that responsibility when he was awoken in the present day. Superman, an alien from the doomed planet Krypton, crashed in Kansas and was brought up by his adoptive parent to fight for, "Truth, Justice and the American way!"

While both superheroes may be linked to America, they each also protect the world as a whole, and many argue that Superman in particular represents the good in all of us, rather than just a singular country. The same of course could be said for Captain America...despite the slightly more obvious name! Well, here is your chance to decide which of these patriotic superheroes is your favourite? Who best represents the United States on this Independence Day celebration?

Captain America, no contest. I've just always preferred Steve Rogers to Clark Kent. He's more relatable and not as impossibly perfect as Superman. Cap is fallible and vulnerable in a way that Supes isn't; it helps that his backstory is grounded in reality (WWII) as opposed to how fantastical Superman's is.

Superman embodies the American Dream: Was an immigrant, came to America and made something great out of himself.

However, Cap has punched out Hitler and made the Nazis his bitch, so it's Cap all day.

Um...of course Captain America...Superman is too over-rated.

Too bad both those characters have been bastardized to the point they have no trace of American patriotism left.

While Captain was playing rockets with the Red Skull, Indiana Jones was taking out the entire Nazi army.

really this is passing for news or at least front page news.

why not make a real poll like who would win Cap or Supes ? not which one strokes the Americans ego more .

Truth and justice 100% fine but the American way its 2011 not 1960.

and before a bunch of you keybored worries come in telling me how wrong i am . its MY opinion im entitled to it no matter how wrong or offensive others MAY find it .

I like Superman better as a character, but in terms of who is more patriotic I'd have to go with Captain America. I don't really think of Superman as an American hero so much as an Earth hero. Case in point, Cap has gotten involved in an American war and would likely do so again.

"There may have been points in both these patriotic characters histories where they've turned their back on their beloved USA for whatever reason"

On Cap's behalf, I wouldn't say he turned his back on the USA, he just turned his back on the US government when he thought they were doin some shady s***. most notably during the Civil War saga

I would have been on the fence about this one until the creators of Superman had him renounce his citizenship. Not a very patriotic move. He's a world hero and really floating around in National limbo so, Supes after 70+ years is out. Nice move dumbasses. Cap all the way, even though Hollywood is doing everything they can to lampoon the costume, patriotic bent and "flag waving". Nice move dumbasses.

Why don't they just come up with a new hero called International Man...and his costume can be a cape of many colors to represent all countries? We wouldn't want to offend anyone with our dirty patriotism.

Roscoe: The front page is not designated as "news only" and it never has been. This is a fantastic and appropriate article considering the holiday it's posted on.

Good stuff Josh. And I have to go with the obvious chopice. Cap all the way.

Awesome pic BTW.

ROSCOE - You're wrong!

People bitching about an American website posting a patriotic article on its BIRTHDAY are really funny! What''s the matter SINISTERURGE/ROSCOE sad your country's not better than the USA?

BTW, JoshW, the AUTHOR of this article, isn't American. Although, with that boob pic he posted I'd give you citizenship!

Roscoe182 - 7/4/2011, 10:09 AM
@ capcyclopsftw and you are the type of moron my comment was meant to offend .. i know Josh is welsh why was that even raised .

"sad your country's not better than the USA? " nope are you that sad you think USA is better than every other country.

if you read my 2nd comment you will see the problem i have is not exactly with the article its self more the wording i say again "The American way"

and do please read what an opinion is as you clearly have very little understanding of the word.

Roscoe - And you are the type of moron I love shoving my American way in your face. What kind of pussy do you have to be that you get offended by "truth, justice, and the AMERICAN way"?

"oh NO they're posting about how america thinks they're so great!" waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawaaaaaaaaaa!

Roscoe - What country are you from?
Roscoe182
Roscoe182 - 7/4/2011, 10:16 AM
Well Tea you make a massively good point .. every one hates the French .. lol i jest ..

anyways the point of my post was not offend the yanks just to make a point of how outdated the "American way" saying is .

Roscoe182 - 7/4/2011, 10:19 AM
@ capcyclopsftw Pretty pathetic that's what you think my point is .. Good day sir i tip my bowler hat in the direction of your mother for birthing you whilst sipping my Tea .. not to be confused with teabags tea juice.

I hope you all realize and understand that superman is an unregistered illegal alien, who came to this country on a ship with out registering him self. Like John McCain and the republicans say, illegal aliens are taking good jobs from hard working Americans like captain American. So the next time an illegal alien like superman, Martian man hunter, silver surfer, or Thor try to save you say “No! I want to be rescued by an American! USA-USA-USA-USA-USA-!”
capcyclopsftw
capcyclopsftw - 7/4/2011, 10:26 AM
Roscoe - I get it, I know you're trying to say the american way has lost it's meaning, but do you even live in the US, funny you never answered that question?

Just another person taking cues from the liberal media I guess?
Roscoe182
Roscoe182 - 7/4/2011, 10:36 AM
i did answer the question pretty clearly where else do they drink tea and wear bowler hats il give you a clue its not France .

and no im not saying America has lost its way or whatever .. what im saying is it does not need to be said at all . "The American way" sounds so so so smug like the American way is the only way or the better way. that's what i find so pathetic about it.

and if you still don't get my point then i give up . you can think i was trying to insult you or your country i don't not care at all .
SageMode
SageMode - 7/4/2011, 10:41 AM
Intruder: i second that one. Captain America is the QUINTESSENTIAL patriiotic superhero.

Cap fights for the american peoples liberties, rights and values, and will rebel against the government to do so. Just as Hawksblueeyes said in an article he posted before, Cap will fight against the government to do the right thing (Civil War saga) whereas Supes really wont.
