In this country of ours, we are afforded a freedom that should be a birth rite, but for most, it is not. We are allowed to speak our minds. We have the ability to open our minds, and allow our ideals and opinions cascade upon this Earth of ours. That's what's most beautiful about these United States of America: Freedom of Speech. Specifically, the internet is the best way for your thoughts to be heard. But, a problem is presented with Freedom of Speech. A problem that is a constant, particularly on this site. ANYBODY can use the Freedom of Speech to give their opinions on matters.
What I mean by this is that when someone leaves a comment on an article, with THEIR opinions, they are attacked if it is not the general consensus. One such issue arose in the article provided by RorMachine entitled "New Still From Captain America: The First Avenger" which included a new still from the upcoming "Captain America: The First Avenger" movie coming July 22 of this year. When a few of the posters commented that it looked like it was CGI or a video game still, they were met with a barrage of insults and childish name-calling. Believe me when I say that, even if you say "I'm too mature," or "I won't stoop to your level," that doesn't mean that you can make a veiled insult, or even spout any insult, and it sound mature. Likewise, telling someone not to post on a website because "it's obvious [they] know nothing of what [they] speak of..." is just an attempt to feel superior to someone who has a differing opinion than they majority of users.
Throughout High School, I was on the receiving end of a lot of judgment because of my religious beliefs, and my views on multiple topics, such as my view on the Columbine Massacre in a primarily Christian school. I was constantly asked by teachers to read papers that I had written on my beliefs. When i would oblige them, I was scrutinized by my teacher, and the students. I was viewed much like a new species, like I was just a weird animal. Like there was no possible way that anyone could feel the way I did. When people go through the sh*t that I went through at such a young age, then you can tell me I'm weird, and that I deserve to be cast out by society.
The point I'm trying to make is that it isn't fair to dislike someone due to their opinions. To call them "retards" or "morons" because what they believe isn't what you believe. To do that makes you the moron. A person shouldn't be judged on their beliefs, let alone called a moron. This is especially true since that their opinions on this site are on COMIC BOOK MOVIES. How unimportant and petty can you get? To hate someone because their view on a MOVIE differs from your opinion? Life is far too short to get into such silly arguments. There are real troubles in this world. There are bigger problems in life than this trivial bullsh*t. If you spend your life hating people for being different than you, you're existence will be a miserable excuse of a life.
Please, just show respect for people, and their opinions. That's what really drew me to this site. That I can give my opinion on movies. A place where differing opinions can live in harmony. But, I'm starting to think that I might've been mistaken...
